I really appreciated that IVF/Reproductive fertility assistance was discussed. I am on the fence in support of it, although I am glad it is a choice for women/men who seek alternatives. I wonder if it really is safe long term and it does feel a little dystopian (embryo harvesting, etc.) but I can understand for certain individuals it may feel like a miracle option. I am exploring foster/adoption.

I struggled with primary and secondary infertility. I prayed a lot about it, but still it didnt happen. I remember sitting in church and seeing a large family across the aisle. i felt bitter, bitter with God, even. I remember i stood up to go to communion thinking i shouldnt feel that way going up to God, but it hurt so much. It was like at that moment, someone touched me and said "how do you know I am not grieving with you?" It was pretty amazing.
So the bit about God being apart of the fertility assistance really touched me. I agree, whole heartedly.

@@Noname-wi8xp Our faith is tested in oh, so many ways and as differently as people are different. God gives some women this test like Hannah in the Old Testament, or Anna, Mary’s mother in the New Testament. You obviously passed this test that God entrusted to you because you have three sons. God gives some women the test of breast cancer, other women get a test of whether or not to leave a physically abusive husband when there are children involved. The key is to surrender our wills to the will of the Heavenly Father who loves us. I Peter 4:12-19 states, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you…” but to rejoice in that we are partaking of Christ’s suffering. Each of us, I suppose get tried to our limits of what we feel like we can endure.

She drew the lines of the crazy 8 pattern over and over again. And commented on the flow -- She brought it up once during a discussion about communication --- the way our interactions should be. I am SO excited to see this video at last! It's fascinating hearing Pearl speak of the Torah in this way. The indigenous Maori of New Zealand (where I'm from) have a similar concept called 'Tikanga' which literally means custom. It isn't religious per say, but lays out the ceremonial roles and responsibilities for women and men. Men are not allowed to perform the karanga (call) to welcome visitors, for example, because this is a women's role. As Pearl puts it so well, there is no 'envy' between groups. Obviously, this clashes with modern feminism and the idea that all roles should be open to all genders. Personally, I find this super interesting to explore because no belief system or ideology is above critique.

I always thought they were cloistered in their homes, never to be seen or heard of, never speaking their mind, and being virtually alienated from the rest of the world. Pearl has a sophistication that we usually associate with education: she validates her information with heart felt clarity and experiential knowledge. She is my kind of teacher and mentor. my family just found out that my German grandmother was Jewish. We had many Jewish traditions mixed with Christian. We thought it was because she worked for Jewish families until they were taken away before the war. She had her own grief at the loss of these families as they treated her better than her own family, they took her on as one of their own children. My mothers DNA shows she is 1/2 Jewish. I have been a hospice and cancer nurse for 40 years and could nvr have children. I always felt that i could care and serve the children of God if i could not have any of my own. Thank you, Pearl and Frieda

Although I’m not Jewish or religious at all, I can tip my hat to her wisdom and communication of what Hasidic Womanhood is about. Her pride in being at the center of the home which is her temple. Thanks for revisiting her and I hope she continues inviting you back because we’ll be watching. She is a great ambassador of Hasidism.

I was raised as a reform Jew. We honored all of the holidays in our home, followed the traditions and customs, went to temple for most holidays. I went to Hebrew school through high school, I was bat mitzvah. I went to a majority Jewish university. Then I made a friend who was Orthodox. Until one day we were out shopping and she started telling me about something she saw on a shelf and then said to me, “oh you don’t know because you’re not Jewish.” So, I don’t know that I believe that Jewish people who are more devout don’t look down on those that aren’t.

Pearl reminds me of how my 88 year old nana describes her mother. Nana was raised orthodox but has been secular her entire adult life. Her mum (my great-grandmother, who died when I was a baby) was orthodox her whole life, but by all descriptions was a very intelligent and learned woman who had plenty of interests in the secular and even non-Jewish world as well.

My drill instructor from Alaska Military Youth Academy grew up in the community/is Jewish and she took a huge liking toward me (I’m also a woman) she wanted to show me the aspects of what she followed, silly me didn’t retain much information, but now I remember what she was trying to show me. She let me blow her goat horn too!! I got it on the first try and I swear, she jumped up and down with joy. I miss hee very much and I hope she’s doing well.

The torah doesn't say women have to shave their heads, just cover them. That's a decision by made by some rabbis. Also, isn't there a prayer men say to thank God for having not made them a women? Why is that necessary? Pearl is fascinating. I appreciate this window into her life.

Pearl's faith is what strikes me the most. With her faith comes a solid base from which she sees and interacts with the world. Everything she shares with us brings that faith alive to me. Pearl shows us a life well lived. High in honor, insight, and acceptance. We struggle to find a place in this world. Pearl shows us a people who have no doubt of their place in this world. They have created a world of order within this world of chaos. Their life revolves around God, not just hit and miss. I just can't say enough about the respect and love I have for Pearl and the life she has shown me. Can't thank you enough, Frieda. for bringing us along. Such a blessing.

The idea of" equality ", that woman need to prove they are equal and the same as men, rather than accept that G-d has CREATED THEM DIFFERENTLY to actually fit different roles in society, has created the biggest chaos in the world....from there it has blossomed into every single kind of immorality known to man. The idea that there is no system to creation and its all about FEELING THIS OR FEELING THAT rather than a coordinated system in nature to serve all of humanity & mankind in different ways...that has brought on our downfall.....as we are right now down that slippery slope of Sodom & GEMORRAH and who knows what else awaits! Men are MEN ..Women are women. They are not equal to anyone or anything. They are different. Just like a lemon is bitter and serves to make things tangy, so is sugar to make things sweet. They dont compete with each other in their role. They serve different purposes. The chicken and the cow dont fight for superiority either. One gives milk and steak, the other lays eggs.and reproduces chickens. They know why they were created. So do we. We dont feel inferior, our job as mothers is a lofty role and experience. Why in the world would I want a mans responsibility when I have mine? It is a PRIVILEGE to be who we are because it is G-ds will that we be THAT.

Pearl is delightful to listen to-very thoughtful, eloquent, and witty. Her worldview is very different from my own, but her joy in life is clearly evident and offers a nice contrast to the darker stories that come out about/from Hasidic communities. Following on from her perspectives on secular Jews and converts, I would be interested to hear her thoughts on mixed marriages, ie between Jews and non-Jews. I assume it is not something that really occurs within the Satmar community, but I wonder what they think about it.
