I let The End beat me a couple times to see what would happen and it just (I believe, my memory might be foggy about these next details) teleports you to the basement of Granin's design bureau in a jail cell with the scientist outfit equipped
You are 100% correct when he knocks you out you always go to Granins because an hour-long portion of the game would be skipped if that happened as well as the fury boss fight. The only way to trigger that minigame is to save while in prison and paramedic makes a comment about the Dracula movies which then snake has a nightmare about. Also the Eva pregnancy scars theory is 10000% false. pregnancy scars don't show on any of those locations that she has scars. Its because he wonders how a desk jockey for the NSA gets scars but in reality she is a Chinese spy with field time and those are combat/torture scars.
"until we cover Peace walker" OH YES PLEASE I'd love if this series went to cover all of the mgs saga (expect for mgsv of course which you already discussed).
I think this is my favourite series so far, but honestly they're all great & the general quality's probably just improving with time as you master the craft.
It’s crazy to consider the extent to which Operation Snake Eater was orchestrated by Zero. I never realized how each aspect of the mission was meant to mold Snake into the next version of The Boss. It’s just like how MGS2 was an elaborate simulation of MGS1 to mold Raiden into the next Snake. And by extension, Kojima’s probably making some social commentary on hero-worship and military fetishism.
Man, at the end of the day, The Boss may be a Mary-Sue but it has to be the best written Mary-Sue ever. By the way, how do you get those conversations with Zero? Like the one where he discuss the code name Naked Snake or the temptation thing. I'm constantly using my codec whenever I play through MGS3 to try and get new conversations but all I get from Zero is Sokolov Sokolov Sokolov Shaggohod Shaggohod sneak mission Sokolov your objective is to the north Shaggohod Sokolov
Naked Snake also points to John's metamorphosis, and connects to the symbolism of John's butterfly. A naked snake is a snake that just shed it's skin, as a butterfly sheds it's cocoon. It's symbolic of John shedding his past self and becoming something new. The butterfly itself is very interesting. When John looses his eye, he looses half of himself, he is only half a man now that he knows what he must do (Kill Joy). When John tries to grab the butterfly, he cant due to his eye. He can't due to his unwilling to face his mission. EVA then gives him a C3 in the shape of a heart (an explosive valentine, which symbolizes her destructive -love-), then John takes that heart and turns it into a butterfly, which he grabs successfully now. That destructive love that EVA gave him is transformed into John's destiny; as a weapon.
This is my thoughts about Eva don't touch it with a 10 foot pole she has that distrustful Vibe about her the kind of girl who likes to rope incense that's the vibe I get from her snake should have probably just stuck to his guns literally as well as figuratively I kind of don't like their relationship thing they got going on at the end of the video game saying I know that people like a fly off into the sunset sort of thing but to me that just seemed kind of cringey if I were in his shoes I'd be like nope get the hell away from me

I'm really glad you went into some detail about the sexual manipulation of Snake and how that effects him psychologically. The greater context is so important to grasping why she behaves the way she does and why Snake peeps on her etc.

I love these videos. I can't wait for part 3 and peacewalker. These games are so dense with symbolism and layered meaning that it's very difficult to wade through and understand all of it even on multiple playthroughs
50:15 that’s not really how physics works though right? you can’t increase the range of a fuel propelled rocket by increasing the speed by which its launch platform moves can you?
I love the details in the ballistics when it shows the boss firing in slow mow and you can see how the bullets are tumbling due to having such a short barrel the rifleling is all but ineffective. I am not so sure its accurate as to how soon they start to tumble, but still an example of realism of ballistics not represented by 99 percent of media
9:20 Sigint has noble ideals but the first 10-15 years of the digital age have not borne out his desires, sadly it has only amplified the minority of people who are bigoted, regardless of what prejudices they posses.
Not answering the pass code, the Chinese gun and the martial arts she did on Ocelot the next day were some of the few deadest give away which I never noticed in any of the time I played it until now...
What I don't agree with on this is how everything was just set up for Snake. I know the Boss's defection was planned but I do believe that Volgin firing the nuke on the lab was completely unaccounted for. Also, the Cobras just being tests, as well as the Boss to me makes Snakes accomplishments completely null. I don't think the Boss gave up her weapon, she loves the fight, that's why she's also known as Joy I do think a lot of this spits on the character of Big Boss
You bring up a lot of good stuff that I’ll be addressing in the last entry. I could totally be wrong about everything, and I’ve honestly struggled with checking and rechecking to make sure what I’m saying has evidence and is at least plausible. The Big Boss legend IMO was always somewhat manufactured, because that’s the whole point. Hell, even the Cobras would have been nothing without the Philosophers and their parasites etc. But we’ll get into this in more detail next time. Thanks for watching! Hopefully I’ll at least be able to make my case, it’s totally fine if people don’t agree with me. I think that’s what I love the most about MGS really, as a spy story so much is left ambiguous it’s for the fans to figure out for themselves
I am not convinced that Zero had any plans for Cipher at this point. Yes, it might've been cool if he was already masterminding everything, but I just don't see the evidence for it. He was definitely recruiting talents for FOX and trying to develop the unit, with people like Sigint and Para-Medic, but that alone does not support that he would've had any knowledge about EVA or even the true nature of The Boss' mission. He could've simply been passionate about trying to make the best possible unit, and thus recruited all the talents needed to properly develop it. I believe that he, like Big Boss, was simply touched by The Boss after learning the truth post-mission, and then started putting his efforts towards reviving and reshaping the American branch of the Philosophors. At that point he would have approached the crew he already had (Big Boss, Sigint and Para-Medic), all of whom were already among the best of their fields as they had been needed for his beloved FOX unit, and begun to try and carry out his understanding of The Boss' dream.
I also wonder how much he intended to retrieve the Legacy & control it himself. Suddenly coming into a windfall like that would certainly warrant taking responsibility for it, & at least pretending to follow the The Boss' will would be a necessary galvanising ideal to get folks on board (folks who couldn't be bought outright with the Legacy, at least). Jorin makes a compelling case for sure, but it's not air-tight!
Surprised you didn't delve into the relationship between Granin's Scud missiles and Liquid's missions in the SAS during the Gulf War mentioned in the MGS1 briefing.
I actually think Zero's relationship to Signit relates directly to the Patriot AI, which they created together. Zero treats Signit the same way that he would treat a white person, and that's their shared vision of the future, a post-racial wold. This is the idea of "colourblindness" which in in itself is an admirable goal, but a common argument against colourblindness is that, although race itself isn't part of someone's personality, it has a huge effect on someone's life and childhood that make up their personality. So by ignoring someone's race you're indirectly ignoring a part of who they are. This mirrors the Patriot AI which was designed to remove the differences between people, and ended up trying to remove parts of what made people who they are. It's also a reflection of how Zero's superficially noble goal of bringing all of humanity into one unified people necessarily means commiting mass cultural genocide. Even though Zero tries to escape this fact, that's ultimately the reason Skullface betrays him and why the Patriot AI turns from a mission of eternal peace to a mission of eternal war (which is also to do with the Y2K bug, but I'll leave that one for later)
Boss: But you can't defeat me, either. You know me too well. Snake: **basically dead from getting his ass kicked by Boss** Yeah, that's the reason I can't defeat you.
Granin is like the good version of Funny Valentine from jojo steel ball run.Someone who loves his country soo much they are willing to go to extreme measures to protect it
im soo late for this party here but here are my 2 cents for it......the bosses appearances when snake lands in the snake eater mission is one of those things that one always has problems explaining since the game left too much unexplained to be interpreted by the game bla bla bla which for me is like trying to balance yourself on a tight rope between really good writing and lazy bullshit. What do i mean ? (Me and You) ME - Why was the boss there ? You - well to remind snake of his mission and to help snake become the boss ME - No no no WHY was she there ? You - Oh to make the drone explode ? Me - But why do one thinks that snake couldn't do that ? the only way he couldn't do that would be IF he died or got heavily injured but that didn't make him unable to make the fulton ballon in the virtous mission so this couldn't be it. The only reason that makes sense is to remind him that she has made her choise and there is no way of him joining her because as they said in the game, many top ranking people were put to house arrest so they will not go with her to russia.OK till now ? You - Go on Me - How did she know that snake will be there ? You - Well the game says superior intell Me - Which means what ? Snake didn't even know where he would land exactly, he could fall to his death easily as it happened in one of the joke intro's of the game. So how she did it ? She never planned the tracker in the first place, she only took credit for it. The tracker was planted on him in the ICU and he carried it in Russia, the boss knew that he had to meet adam at the place he found sokolv but she couldn't go there with a vehicle, it would be way to lound, so she had to bring her horse with her which answers the question of paramedic (if you hear it before meeting the boss) what does a horse doing in that area ?!?!?!? The answer is, it is fast and very silent to carry the boss to an area she knows snake will be passing through and she knows he is there thanks to the tracker because there is no possible way that superior intel could give her real time info of where snake would be while falling mach 3 and then using a parachute in the 1960s in a forest. So she is there because she can track him. She shoots the drone because she can spent the ammo and snake just can't and because she took out first his primary weapon and the left before the KGB come from the same place there could be her only exit, that snake has to sneak his way through.......
Definitely one of my favorites of the series, but I have to say my favorite part of MGS3 is when Sigint tells snake about his dream where everything had been turned to s***. I laughed so freaking hard because it was so random and unexpected.
Why did the Boss have to die? I'm serious, why should she die for what Volgin did, yes she gave him the warhead, but she didn't pull the trigger, all of this for a glorified bank account. The United sacrificed one of it's finest assets for no reason, she could've faked her death, got plastic surgery and just disappeared let the governments just blow themselves up for all she cared. It is complete crap that she had to sacrifice herself and have her memory dragged through the mud for petty reasons.
Should have mentioned how in the end, as a thunderstorm begins to form, Volgin smirks and goes "Who's afraid of a little thunder?" before getting hit with a bolt of lighting that detonates his ammo belts and sets his body ablaze (image that'll haunt Snake in the Phantom Pain).
You got one thing wrong. The dream doesn't happen if The End beats you, it happens if you save your game in the prison after the torture sequence.
At best Hal is early to mid 20’s in this game? Sure it’s possible he’s somehow be a friend of a 60 year old Soviet but….likely?
@16:05 "...we encounter for the first time in person the spy we'll know... UUHHH... by the cryptonym EVA" LMAO
you keep getting better and better with time man
couldn’t agree more, love this series
Maybe, I missed something, but where are getting the idea that Zero knew the Boss's actual mission?
Not answering the pass code, the Chinese gun and the martial arts she did on Ocelot the next day were some of the few deadest give away which I never noticed in any of the time I played it until now...
I did not knew, if you capture a rabbit in The Fear battle area, a serum will be added in the inventory. This game never ceases to amaze me.
I don't think the Boss gave up her weapon, she loves the fight, that's why she's also known as Joy
I do think a lot of this spits on the character of Big Boss
Eva reminds me of Katarina Rostova(The Blacklist)
deadass never clicked on a video faster in my life
They should make a metal gear thats after mgs3 in one of the timelines snake rescued eva from hanoi
BIIIG UPLOAD!!! Thank you (๑・̑◡・̑๑)
VENOMOUS irony. The name is a kind of PUNISHMENT.
I see what you did...
Will you guys be doing this for MGS2? My fav game, if so I can't wait to see it ;D
lmaooo sigint thought the internet would make people less racist
Damn. That's alot of ads
Either get an adblock or Premium it's not that hard
I love how Eva’s Tatyana disguise works lol It’s like Superman’s glasses disguising him 🤣
This is an excellent video. Just when I thought I knew everything about Metal Gear!
Helk yes i’ve been looking forward to this, the effort you put into these videos is great you deserve way more subs
Surprised you didn't delve into the relationship between Granin's Scud missiles and Liquid's missions in the SAS during the Gulf War mentioned in the MGS1 briefing.
I had to hurry up and play every game to prepare myself for this
Another absolute heater of a video. Please make a video about the supply lines and environmental storytelling like you mentioned. Great vid!!
17 ad breaks. I love these videos but ffs.
(Edit: the amount of ads is exhausting. I'll be finishing this video on a pc with an ad block.)
Apparently nobody has heard of adblock or Premium
Gonna be a good day because new video
YOU'RE GOATED KEEP DOING THESE VIDEOS BRO
i love how much the boss seems to hate Volgin
the saying "kuwabara" is used to ward off ghost.
I'm thinking maybe the homoeroticism of MGSV was a hint for the big twist.
(Me and You)
ME - Why was the boss there ?
You - well to remind snake of his mission and to help snake become the boss
ME - No no no WHY was she there ?
You - Oh to make the drone explode ?
Me - But why do one thinks that snake couldn't do that ? the only way he couldn't do that would be IF he died or got heavily injured but that didn't make him unable to make the fulton ballon in the virtous mission so this couldn't be it. The only reason that makes sense is to remind him that she has made her choise and there is no way of him joining her because as they said in the game, many top ranking people were put to house arrest so they will not go with her to russia.OK till now ?
You - Go on
Me - How did she know that snake will be there ?
You - Well the game says superior intell
Me - Which means what ?
I just finished the game so now I can Watch this
There's a movie called " Wag the Dog" about a cia/hollywood cover-up, came out in the nineties. Just throwing that out there.
Right after you talked about the code name "Naked Snake," I got an ad for Elemis London saying "Get Naked."
Fun fact, the venom of the Brazilian wandering spider can also cause painful erections for several hours! Weird the Fear didn’t mention that 🤣
The HD Version of this game looks worse than the original. What is up with the crazy bloom on everything?!
