You got one thing wrong. The dream doesn't happen if The End beats you, it happens if you save your game in the prison after the torture sequence. I let The End beat me a couple times to see what would happen and it just (I believe, my memory might be foggy about these next details) teleports you to the basement of Granin's design bureau in a jail cell with the scientist outfit equipped
You are 100% correct when he knocks you out you always go to Granins because an hour-long portion of the game would be skipped if that happened as well as the fury boss fight. The only way to trigger that minigame is to save while in prison and paramedic makes a comment about the Dracula movies which then snake has a nightmare about. Also the Eva pregnancy scars theory is 10000% false. pregnancy scars don't show on any of those locations that she has scars. Its because he wonders how a desk jockey for the NSA gets scars but in reality she is a Chinese spy with field time and those are combat/torture scars.
"until we cover Peace walker" OH YES PLEASE I'd love if this series went to cover all of the mgs saga (expect for mgsv of course which you already discussed).
I'm really glad you went into some detail about the sexual manipulation of Snake and how that effects him psychologically. Great explanation of how EVA's sexual nature is fan service to an extent, but not mindless fan service. The greater context is so important to grasping why she behaves the way she does and why Snake peeps on her etc.
Anyone else noticed how popular Metal Gear videos have become recently? Especially MGSV. I decided to give it another shot recently and there's loads of video essays on it from the past few months pulling hundreds of thousands of views.
i genuinely think that could be largely attributable to Futura's work. the sheer amount, breadth, and quality of metal gear analysis he's made is actually astounding. he has been pumping ths shit out like nobody's business, yet my favorite videos of his are still sitting largely unwatched, at hundreds or mid-thousands of views (the "DNA - a MGSV Exegesis" series, etc). I was surprised that was a new fact mentioned here cos you can hear the horse pretty easily in the area just before where the boss is and you don’t even need to use the directional mic. I hear it every time I pass by there in my playthroughs
I played both MGSV and 3 and understood the reference that the Cobra Unit had the parasites and all, but that detail of their influence over the weather and having The Boss recognizing The Sorrow's presence because of the rain it was, bwoah, mind-blowing, this kind of details is what makes love this series especially MGS3 every year I'm learning something new about it.
32:02 The smirk on the Boss' face after hearing Volgin claim Khrushchev had a hand in helping Snake! That was never apparent to me until hearing your analysis! Mind blown.

This is the only MGS game I've played and I did it 5 years ago on the 3DS and I've only had a passing interest in the series since then. I can barely remember the most important plot points of this game and yet almost everything you say makes sense to me because of how clearly written this video is

Great video. This is a follow up to my comment on part 1 in this series. Thanks for including a more comprehensive explanation of why you think Ocelot is aware of his relationship with the Boss. I think you make a solid case for that interpretation. I'm divided on whether your example of their interaction is supposed to show in-universe awareness of their relationship or if it is supposed to be a hint to us, the player, of that relationship. Either way, I appreciate the extra context, Jorin Lee.
I love the details in the ballistics when it shows the boss firing in slow mow and you can see how the bullets are tumbling due to having such a short barrel the rifleling is all but ineffective. I am not so sure its accurate as to how soon they start to tumble, but still an example of realism of ballistics not represented by 99 percent of media
I love how big boss assumed sigint wasn't getting jobs because he was a bit odd, not because of racism. That huh seemed genuine that he didn't think of that. Naked snake doesn't look at a person and see colour, he just asks paramedic if they're edible

Watchin your videos have given me back my great memories of all the years of playing the metal gear series , as I have been a lifelong fan of the series ! All those great moments , and your analysis and breakdown of the series are great and entertaining , great work man !
Should have mentioned how in the end, as a thunderstorm begins to form, Volgin smirks and goes "Who's afraid of a little thunder?" before getting hit with a bolt of lighting that detonates his ammo belts and sets his body ablaze (image that'll haunt Snake in the Phantom Pain).
Definitely one of my favorites of the series, but I have to say my favorite part of MGS3 is when Sigint tells snake about his dream where everything had been turned to s***. I laughed so freaking hard because it was so random and unexpected.
It's not related to this video but when you play GZ, Miller at a point would say about paz *That he doesn't believe that they believe the cover story about paz* Which is pretty weird because in the end of Peace Walker, Miller already knew who Paz was and told big boss about it, it's a theory but was Ground Zero a virtual training ground for Venom or recollection of memories by venom? They were making him a mental copy after all with zero support too, make sense to call it "Ground Zeroes"
The sleep talks were in reference to The Boss helping her with her bags, not what you would initially think. That's revealed in a call to her when calling her in Chornyj Prud. And since someone brought up her pet dog Fido being a sleep talk conversation, the dreams are likewise a reference to her dreaming that Fido gets housebroken, not implied beastiality. That's also revealed in another radio conversation, this time within Bolshaya Past South, shortly after encountering the Great Danes.

I believe that he, like Big Boss, was simply touched by The Boss after learning the truth post-mission, and then started putting his efforts towards reviving and reshaping the American branch of the Philosophors. At that point he would have approached the crew he already had (Big Boss, Sigint and Para-Medic), all of whom were already among the best of their fields as they had been needed for his beloved FOX unit, and begun to try and carry out his understanding of The Boss' dream.
I also wonder how much he intended to retrieve the Legacy & control it himself. Suddenly coming into a windfall like that would certainly warrant taking responsibility for it, & at least pretending to follow the The Boss' will would be a necessary galvanising ideal to get folks on board (folks who couldn't be bought outright with the Legacy, at least).
