I love the Railjets. I take them every now and then from Salzburg to Munich to visit my family living close to Leipzig

Those Austrian Railjet seats are great. I took business class this summer. Munich to Salzburg...they didn't charge me for the upgrade with my Eurail pass. It was sweet!!

On compartments: original trains in UK were built by putting multiple horse drawm carriage boxes onto the rail car frame and each had doors on each site. No corridor. Tickets had to be checked on platform while train stopped. In the USA, the developped the gangway between cars concept, and this propagated to europe who maintained the private compartment concept but with a corridor and this allowed people to walk to a toilet and dining car while train was moving (and for conductors to check tickets on the train). While north america quickly adopted the "airline style seating" before airlines were a thing, I think Europe really got stuck in the tradition of the compartments for a very long time, perhaps because of the commonality with couchette cars making these cars more "assembly lilne" compatible.
In North America, a "compartment" was a Pullman terminology for sleeping car accomodation (the least expensive one) with 2 facing sofas that could hold 4, but reserved for two. At night, the lower 2 sofas form the lower berth, while the uppoer berth is lowered from ceiling and curtains serate the berths from the central aisle. (old US movies with trains would often feature a whole car with central aisle with cirtains on both sides).
Some of the early long haul planes to Australia etc had similar seats that converted to beds in the same way at night.

The biggest plus in train is thet you will come to the city center and not outside the city if you take flight

Absolutely, that's a BIG BIG BIG plus for the train (and something you should take in consideration regarding the total travel time).

Thanks again for another excellent video. I'm hoping to travel to Germany next year and getting from Munich to Vienna is something I have been researching. When are you going to come over to America and rate Amtrak???

From Munich to Vienna you actually have 2 companies, Westbahn and ÖBB, personally I like ÖBB a bit more, but Westbahn might be more affordable.
I'd love to come to the US, I'm already working on a kind of planning for that, nog only Amtrak but also some regional companies and I know, not original but I love to try Brightline as well.

Thank you for the video. Question. Why do they love compartments (4 or 6 chairs) so much in German speaking countries? On several German channels they are allways talking about it. I don' like compartments, especially the lack of social control and thus less safety. Anyone with an answer???

I honestly have no idea, I'm not a bug fan of compartments either

The business class would be well worth it on a long route such as Vienna to Zurich

For long routes is worth it, although depending on the seat you'll get.

I may have said it before, but please don't put background music while you speak. It is annoying.
Good to see the restaurant car is full. ailways need to see this as an asset instead of a liability so we get more and more of them.
