Hey! I just finished making the tofu it took a lot of time and patience. I used synthetic vinegar instead of the rice one bc that's what I had and it didn't give any changes in the results it was perfect. I used 250gms of soya beans and it made approximately 2lt of milk and then 500gms of tofu! It was way cheaper than making cottage cheese or even just buying tofu from the store
This is exactly how to make cheese from dairy milk, Great video. This is the first time I tried fresh tofu. Wow, it tastes so much better than store bought. Just had a bowl of fresh tofu seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, ginger, chilli, sesame seeds, sesame oil and green onion. I finally understand why asians eat so much tofu. I used to buy commercial tofu and often to use it before it expires, what a waste. Making fresh tofu is economical as well. Thank you so much for posting this
After watching a LOT of videos about how to make tofu, yours was the most helpful because it was extremely clear and the video showed everything that a novice would need to see. I didn't work to end up with 5l of soy milk (which seems like a lot...), but it all worked out great!! Thank you!
Hi from Ireland. I am in my 50s and this is my very first cooking and eating tofu. I never had it before. While watching this video, I am right now frying tofu. I cannot believe how silky soft the tofu is and how easy it is to cut it into cubes. Before, I thought it would be as hard as cheddar cheese.
Finally, I made a perfect block of tofu!!! Well, I still have to eat it, but it’s holding together so well following your instructions!! It’s soaking in water atm. I thought I had to order these coagulants that you cannot find in stores to get this process going. It did come in the mail, but after watching your video, I opted for the rice vinegar as I always keep that stocked in my kitchen. It’s better to use ingredients that are at hand and easy to find. I’m so excited to try it with some homemade Kim here. I hope it tastes great without having to cook it. Great video!! Thank you. Can you please post how to make some sauces with that extracted water?
There seems to be lots of different ways to approach tofu, but this one looks legit from a novice perspective, and seems to be very much achievable. Basically it's soak>blend>strain>boil>vinegar>strain, with care. 6 steps. Simple enough. This is something I genuinely might try. I like tofu, but my wife has a soy intolerance, so if I could do this with another bean (like fava) we might be able to share more meals.
I love the fact that you make it with rice vinegar, in the country i live (Panama) i cant find Gypsum powder or Nigari, its more accessible the rice vinegar. Thank you for sharing your family knowledge!!!!
So helpful and down to earth. Surely, I can relate with this recipe more than any other that I've viewed on RUclips. No expensive equipment and separators. Only the kitchen grinder et al. Thanks immensely.
I just want to say for people if u don use all the tofu put it in a container it doesn’t have to be closable pour in water till the tofu is fully covered that is very important. Before you use it rinse it of a little cuz the outer layer might be sour. 👍🏻
Oh my goodness - does that Tofu look delicious!!!! I've got to try making my own at home.Glad to hear Rice Vinegar or fresh Lemon Juice can be used in place of the Nigari, which are two things I always have at home. I just purchased some soybeans. Keeping my fingers crossed that mine will come out as good as yours.
We can find tofu in the near by stores in my country tofu is loved by almost every one there is also red tofu and orange how ever I enjoy the red tofu more because when you fry it it turns to a beautiful golden brown
Looks yummy and satisfying to watch.🥰🥰 For anyone it may be helpful. My first attempt failed, reasons may be 1. because i over soaked the soybeans, 2. I couldn't continue doing it at once, filtered milk was sitting for more than hour. 3. Added water in the mid of boiling, because milk turned thick and started burning in the bottom. Smells bad too. 4. I added lemon juice while its on low flame, like i saw on some other video. Please don't make such mistakes in order to get perfect tofu like above.😦🙄
I've always been curious about how tofu is made. Thank you for this recipe. Am surely going to make some very soon. But I would like to know how many litres of milk you used in this recipe. Thanks once more
Thank you for the video. You show the process quite well. How long do you soak the tofu in water after taking it out of the press and cutting it up? Also, what temperature must it reach on the thermometer?
Yes that is true Elaine i made vinegar and lemon too but i want to try the coagulant I want to see the smooth texture, with lemon and vinegar they are not smooth, I dont want the nigari and epsom salt those are bitter..yes that is it gypsum/i still need to order it online, well i be back to you next time i try it/ thank you so much that you updated most your recipe specially this one...❤ even soy beans is not easy for me to find, i must search for the/ nature shop/
Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) is also made very similarly. Just the only difference is Tofu is made from curdling Soy Milk and Paneer is made from curdling Cow Milk. Also Paneer is kept dry with some mosture but soft.
as the war in ukraine becomes more and more prevelant ive started to look to alternativesfor food and ive decided to start growing soybeans and camellia sinensis for black tea this video was very helpful thank you!
Elaine, Thank you so much for this recipe. Have you tried making it with other type of beans? I cannot eat soy, so I am looking for an alternative to soy beans.
I've tried a few other recipes with lemon juice and water and even different stirring techniques and the curds always came out so so tiny and just wouldn't set. I followed your directions and the curds where waaaay bigger and it all just happened as it should do. Very happy 😊

You have got such a gentle soothing voice. Thank you so much for the recipe, I won’t need to buy soya milk anymore to make tofu or soya cheese.
