Star Wars: A new Hope.
I was stationed in Korea, 1977.
A friend sent me a cryptic message: Come home, you won't believe me, but you won't regret it!
Not much outside news had trickled into Korea, so I had not heard of this little movie.
So I had to pull some strings, get together a lot of money and convinced my Commander that taking mid-tour leave was the best thing for the Service.
So, $1150 dollars for a round-trip ticket later, I was in Seattle, in a theater.
It was a near thing, the 'old cinema' posters in the lobby almost scared me off.
The Exposition crawl was cute, but what blew me away was the Blockade Runner!
Beautiful model, great lighting, cool effects and damn-fine camera work.
I was impressed. This was a proper space-battle!
Then the Star Destroyer slid into view, and I haven't been quite right ever since.
I ended up watching that film 6 times while I was on leave.
That was around $200 a showing.
Worth every penny!
It's been a couple years since this trailer was released and yet I can't help but cry every time I watch it

I saw the original Star Wars film (before it was renamed "Episode IV", back in Houston, Texas in 1977. We had to wait three hours to get tickets, the line was so long. I was bored out of my mind, but the commercial had intrigued my little 10 year old mind.
And when I came out, life as I knew it had changed. The world was divided between "Before Star Wars" and "After Star Wars".
You kids (and I'm older than all of you, so shut up) are only getting a little slice of the absolute madness that was the original Star Wars frenzy. And you won't get all of it because you've never seen the world Before Star Wars. Its an entirely different thing entirely now.
At 5:42... when they show Captn Phasma and the guys 'who' that?' in unison.. made me smile. SW geeks.
I was born in 1973 and my earliest memory is sitting in a movie theater with my dad and I think my sisters and watching Star Wars for the very first time. I have loved Star Wars all my life, and even though people complain about the prequels, I still like them, too. While nothing near as magical as Episodes 4-6, they're still charming. I cannot wait for this new trilogy, though, because I have absolute total faith in J. J. Abrams to do it right. I cannot wait!
Even today see the teaser fill me with joy. It's just a great movie.

I think this was for all the nostalgic fans. It was so emotional that it's going to hook all the diehard fans to make them go see the movie. I gotta admit I was teary eyed hearing Chewbacca again with Han Solo.
That's the genius of marketing.
And people doubt JJ Abrams.....the trailer is awesome!

I've watched this trailer+reactions at least 50 times. I still get chills every single time. What else does that? Answer, nothing. Nothing else can illicit such a purely visceral reaction quite like Star Wars.
The feels were strong with this one.

Everytime I see this trailer, that DECEMBER bit is like a slap in the face.
It doesn`t matter that I saw the first trailer months ago, this movie still doesn`t seem closer.

The hope in their eyes
This is the first trailer in my life that made me cry.
I'm a super super casual star wars fan, like I've seen the new trilogy before the old one. Saw the old star wars movies for the first time like 3-4 years ago, I'm 26 years old now, and I only own Episode III and the Force Unleashed.
I like the lore, the VFX, some of the video games I've played, the old animated cartoon they aired on Toonami, but I don't love the movies like most Star Wars fans do. That being said that was a much better trailer than the first one, which was essentially a teaser and I was like "okaaaay".
I trust JJ's vision since he made Star Trek mainstream and cool again, and his movies always looked like Star Wars demo reels to begin with. Therefore, I'm eager to see more and will gladly pay a ticket for the opening night.
I have to admit I almost cried at this trailer....

i got goosebumps the first time i saw this trailer. i can't wait.
Read the book in 1976 (did book report in school on it). Took 3 tries to see the movie in "77" as it was sold-out at the only theater in Indianapolis that had it showing (The Eastwood- with a 70foot curved screen). Saw Return of the Jedi at midnight showing in "83" with everyone in the theater standing and cheering when Vader tossed the Emporer. Liked the prequels but didn't feel this excited when they came out. Bigs thanks to JJ Abrams for lighting a fire long dormant.

So the first trailer I saw was kind like awe man idk but when this trailer hit totally pumped me up for the movie. I saw the original trilogy back in 2004 and I was hooked so this trailer brought back that nostalgic feeling I had from when I was 14. Can't wait to see it now.
The first teaser was release 13 months before the film's release. It was just meant to wet your appetite.

I realize how old this is but I can watch this 1000 times. I'm a grown man but ain't no way I can watch this at work. Nostalgia, the music, seeing Han and Chewie, its the perfect storm. The ONLY other time I've seen people moved like this was at CHURCH. And I'm talking not one of them FAKE churches, but one where you can REALLY feel the presence of God move.

Everyone is assuming Luke is talking to a child or grandchild of his, but I don't think so. I think he is talking to the Stormtrooper who the force has "awakened" in.
I don't think that the majority of the world has seen Star Wars. I just seen it 2 years ago when I was 23. Kids around me back in the 90s never were that much into Star Wars.

when ever i get lost in the fuckery of today, i watch star wars stuff to get my mind off of the bs politics of reality. i watched the trailer with the original audience reaction and that made me weep like a little new born baby. i swear to you ,that is the only time i've openly wept from the effect of a video. it will be the same reaction as when i see the movie opening day.

After watching this in 2020 it’s more than evident that Disney didn’t have a concise plan for this trilogy.
Why in the hell!! Would they have Luke’s voiceover talking about the “Force in HIS family” and referring to “And YOU have that same force.” Implying that the protagonist of the movie (which we know is Rey) is his DAUGHTER!!! Or at least they’re related!
They had zero clue what episodes 8 and 9 were going to be. It’s 100% clear cause look at the results were left with.
I really wish I could go back to the days of 2015 when I first started watching these trailers and the anticipation and the epic scale of what I THOUGHT these movies were gonna be.
Jesus christ, get over it dude. All the moaning is getting pretty old at this point. These movies (just like the old ones) were specifically made for children anyway and todays 7-12 year olds don't give a shit about "retcons", "fixes" or "no concise plans". They watch these films cause they are entertaining as hell which is the same reason we were watching the originals when we were kids. How empty must your life be that you can't get over childrens movies you didn't like.

Year later, I still cry over seeing this trailer... This trilogy started out with such strong hopes and ended with a whimper... At least the Mandalorian has blown up and given us what us fans deserve.

It’s mad how they completely nailed all these trailers, they represented everything good about Star Wars, the prequels and the originals. But the films did not. Almost like the trailers were just edited by fans.

This isn't the teaser trailer. It's the whole movie in 50 parts. Part two comes out soon. Chapter One begins on 18 December 2015. Yeah, but I am a Star Trek fan too. Star Trek is popular too but J. J. Abrams and the scriptwriters ruined the canon.
goose bumpss...it looks like abrams is bringing that empire strikes back feel....I hated the phantom menace accept for the saber fight....that was lucas's down fall introduces these stupid jar jar binks characters into the star wars world.....just keep it simple...storm troopers vader like characters etc.
