  • As the sun moved closer to the horizon and, more and more, we considered heading home for the night, traffic picked up one last time, including these two trains, the first of which with a very "classical" setup, later followed by two last eastbounds, one being crude oil with two Dash 9s at the point; the other a manifest pulled by a quartet of various GEs.

Love your videos - love the subject matter - don't want to start a debate, but what's the feeling out there about camera angles? I always feel stepping a little further from the right of way gets a better picture and more detail of the train - especially when it's at track speed. Any comments? Thanks for your videos nonetheless.

Thanks for the kind words - and as for camera angles, especially at track speed, they can be very tricky. Sometimes, a shot a little farther away can look better, but personally, I tend to gravitate towards close shots. There’s a certain “thrill factor” to being close like that, and a lot of the time, I feel that there is more of a sense of speed. It varies by location, too - at Newport, PA, I set up on top of a gravel mound a couple hundred feet from the tracks, whereas I set up VERY close at station platforms. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I don’t have a problem with farther angles and that they sometimes can be great/better, but I have a sort of preference for being “closer to the action.”

@@NickyDsTrains I get it. Of course we all have a personal preference and i respect that. It's certainly not pertaining to just your videos, but when viewing some videos, the close angle, while certainly exciting in person, loses the detail i like to see as each car blows by. Especially true with passenger traffic at higher speeds! Keep up what you're doing and what you love, there's more than enough material for us all to appreciate in our own ways. Thanks for the reply.

My special needs son loves trains 🚆🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 especially cabooses and wishes that the railroads would still use cabooses on freight trains instead of replacing them with the flashing rear end device. He thinks they should have left the caboose on the end of the train and just install the end of train device onto the caboose!
