    This is one of those rare movies that I simply don't CARE about plot holes and how it really has no plot to speak of. It's just so well made and interesting to watch. And so many great performances!

      Most of these are not plot holes, they are plot critiques about dramatic choice.
      The posion, the aliens not having a backstory, the desperate luke perry using the only weapon he has, etc.
      For the most part these are just issues with plot details that are left unexplained, but would be easy enough to explain with some mundane writing.

Went to the premiere in London and had the first ever webstite about the divine language on the web...I actually learned the divine language from the script and because I spoke 5 languages was able to find out how the words were picked up by Besson and Milla. I was effectively scared by those scenes, especially because I had no idea what it was, because it's not red. So what is it? Is it simply a fluid that the Great Evil can make drip from people's head, or... is it really chocolate sauce because the special effects guys could not make realistic looking blood? See here's what always bugged me, Leeloo is supposed to be the 5th element (that statue that floated out of the temple in the beginning) yet shes recreated using a large gloved hand from the aliens that's holding one of the handles from the case we see later that was supposed to be holding the stones....does that mean the creatures inside the suits are human? How did she get out of the statue then?

    • @spicyt0fu
      @spicyt0fu 2 года назад +8

      So what I think happened is that they recreated her with what they had on hand. Making her way more human then she was originally. I know That’s not how it’d work in real life but the whole movie likes to take liberties with technology. I mean, if they regrew her she wouldn’t have any memory or reactions at first. CinemaSins' "Wrongful Sin" Sin Tally: 4
    (at least)
    1) Cops didn't know to look for Korben. He had the ID scan jammer. They specifically say that out loud before they start shooting at him.
    2) Leloo didn't take the nametag, some guy did. Presumably the one who got arrested, probably trying and have some prize delivered to him (look at your own video... those hand's aren't Leloo's hands).
    3) Why wouldn't Korben be able to get to the airport quickly? Taxis are a thing. We know this for multiple reasons.
    4) That's not the priest telling Korben where the diva suite is, that's the staff who was sitting in the chair in front of the camera feeds, who Korben is talking to before the priest starts talking.

    • @MoistGrundle
      @MoistGrundle 3 года назад

      On number 2: I believe those are the priests hands. It happens quick, if memory serves, but Vito grabs the tag, and then the doorbell rings. They have the squabble, he stuffs em in the fridge, and then he answers the door. Soon as Leeloo says her hello, out jumps Vito with Korben's gun, which he left at Vito's apartment.

      That's what makes it so fun! You have to totally see the intention of the movie, not the excecution. I'm sure that must seem like I'm telling you to enjoy something crappy, but honestly I think it's worth it for the message at the end of movie where Leloo asks what the point of humanity is. I think Luc Besson's message is that love is always personal. In spite of the trope of deep passionate man's-love-saves-woman, I think the performances at least hint at a layer of depth that suggests something more between the characters that just sex. It would be amazing if someone who outdo this with a remake or spinoff. This movie kills just on imagination and "weirdness". Memorable as fuck!

    Some things wrong with this video
    1. They are not robots, they are wearing environment suits.
    2. The priest was rendered unconscious by the mondoshawan.
    3. The mondoshawan are absolute pacifists, hence no weapons on the ship.
    4. They can can recreate the 5 element based on the dna, they cant read it...its not a book.
    5. English was not a language when she was put into stasis, so would not be stored in her near infinite genetic memory.
    6. He only loses 1 point because he only had 1 left.
    7. The ship did not crash land on Earth.
    8. That thing is not undetectable by x-ray, the 4 parts it breaks down into are.
    9. He said 3000 rounds. Not 3000 bullets.
    10. The divas concert was sold out. The contest winners tickets would already have been purchased.
    11. The priest pulled off the tag, actually it was one of his business cards, then put it on another door.
    12. Don't come back without the stones was a threat, not orders.
    13. Korben didn't "get there so fast", the movie just didn't show the travel. Oh, and public transportation.
    14. Leeloo had to learn English before she read about martial arts, Korben just didn't know.
    15 The evil planet, Mr Shadow may not be able to go anywhere near the stones. He just wants to be sure someone he controls has them. Also just being real fucking evil does not mean you know where the stones are.
    and many more.

      Not necessarily; 1 round of 9mm is 1 bullet, but 1 round of 00 buckshot is about 8 bullets. Also, future tech means that it could be a laser-based weapon (not likely based on it's other characteristics, but bear with me) in which case it could be that the battery pack holds enough power for 3000 shots.

    The audience does a standing ovation because that was a genuine reaction. The actors and extras have never seen the opera singer behind the Diva perform before the final cut.
    Someone mentioned that the blood from Zorg's head was chocolate sauce? Its actually molasses.
    Funny you should mention that Vito suddenly knew about the schematics of the ship.....since he told his apprentice to look for information for Fhloston Paradise Hotel, and immediately knew the entire schematics of the hotel. If anything, you should've sinned the fact that a lowly, religious "friar" was able to find detailed schematics for a famous, intergalactic hotel.

    I always thought it needs time to prepare because it entered our dimension from another dimension that has different laws of physics. When he says "adapt to out living conditions", I assume he means "adapt to our laws of reality."
    10:34
    The fact that "a growing fiery planet of death" *is* "a growing fiery planet of death" in the first place is exactly the reason for why it needs other people's help. It's literally too large to do it itself, because moon-sized objects can't enter spaceships or walk on planets.
    14:37
    As the priest explains it at the start of the movie, starting at 3:09 in this video, the Evil wants to use the Elements to corrupt that ritual or whatever in order to destroy this universe... or something. The problem is that at this point, Zorg, Evil's only minion, is dead and the good guys have obtained all the elements. Originally, the Evil didn't want to destroy Earth because that would have been counter-productive to its plans, but at this point, those plans can't even be completed at all. Destroying Earth at this point is basically a desperate "fuck you" plan, the goal of which is to basically say "if I can't use the elements to destroy the universe, you can't use them to save it either."

  • @hornmonk3zit
    @hornmonk3zit 2 года назад +9

    I'm surprised after 6 years nobody has mentioned that the fireball shot at Earth in the final act was said to be 12,000 miles wide, which is twice as big as the Earth but on screen only looks like the size of the moon. They also mention it stopped 62 miles from the surface which would literally be sucking the oceans off the planet like a giant doomsday Dyson vacuum.

    Geez, everybody lighten up! The 5thE was supposed to be campy, cheesy, fun by using all the tropes we usually see in futuristic, space-based films... including all the "how did they get out of that" situations, the super-hero type efforts, the timing coincidences...and all that stuff. It was rife with parts we were supposed to laugh at because they were pretty silly.
    But still, ya gotta love a lot of these characters... suspend your disbelief... and roll with it. That makes it a good time.
    Same goes for Cinema Sins! These are not reviews. We have to realize that movies are imperfect - even the very best ones have plot holes, illogical choices and coincidences. CS shows us how to have fun with that.

    I saw this movie in the theater and I mostly felt confused by it at the age I was. I thought it was a flop back then--and in the US market, it generally was (did better in foreign markets). Over the years, I've been surprised that it has developed a cult-following (as have other films from the summer of 1997, like Event Horizon). There was a cavalcade of 'bad' sci-fi movies in the late 90s, probably because of Independence Day. I think the criticism of the film is that Fifth Element has blurred together for some people with The Matrix, when The Fifth Element was probably intended to be absurd--a movie set in the future about prophecies from ancient Egypt as told by a cult from the early 20th century. In the future, the hero is a taxi driver flying around in a space taxi while the 'aliens' or characters all seem to fit stereotypes of throwaway movies, such as blaxploitation movies (ex, Chris Tucker). So, it might have been intentional, but I think the point of the Fifth Element was to be a comedy set in outer space but with a host of absurd characters that either make you hate the stereotype or think it's funny and endearing. And perhaps, that's why it's one of those movies that's so-bad-it's-good: people in the film industry can use it as an example of movie making when most summer movies fall into the category of D or C list movies anyway ... even though the movie still has "something" in it that makes people love it for years afterwards.

    Vito moved Korben's door sign, not Leeloo, to throw off anyone else looking for Korben, since he knows others are looking for the stones. The warrior aliens took the Korben arrest warrant from the police, that's how they know who they're looking for, but they imitate the 'Smoke you!' guy. Vito doesn't identify the Diva's room, it's one of the ship's mates.

    • @lunaticpathos
      @lunaticpathos 9 лет назад +6

      Also, they can replicate a being from DNA, not it's memory, so if they had Korben's hand they'd just get a baby Korben in adult body. Leeloo isn't the perfect human, she's a perfect being with important information in her DNA, hence its density. I don't think she's necessarily human, either, their machine is just programmed for humans and make a body from DNA with that assumption.

      At the time I think what put many people off was the way the marketing and trailers made it look like it would be a properly serious movie a la Alien or something, but it's more of a comedy. Just a mismatching of expectations. Watch it without the wrong expectation and indeed it's rather fun. I put it into the same category as The Core.
