Worked security for this show at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium back in the day. Bono had that same sling on his arm, Pgh was maybe a few tour dates after this video was taken in Sept. '87. Couldn't afford a ticket, so found a job working security. Arrived early in the afternoon and got my tshirt and security lanyard before others started showing up. U2 was doing their sound check so walked into the arena that was still empty, just U2 on stage jammin'. I walked up to about 40 rows back, and got a center stage seat. Can still remember the moment like it was yesterday. I was the only one seated on the arena floor taking in the sound check show. Felt like a private concert by U2 for me. Joshua Tree was an amazing show. U2 played Still Haven't Found last song, last encore. The entire Three Rivers arena was singing this song's chorus for at least 30 minutes after the band left the stage. Nobody wanted to leave the arena. It was like a religious experience, that's all I can say. If you were there, then you know.😍
I arrived in America on September of ‘87 and this was the very first song I heard from U2. Rattle and Hum was the first cassette tape I bought…and this is the best rendition of a song I’ve ever heard 🤟🏼
I agree with other commenters ... THE BEST VERSION ever of this amazing song...Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum were my first two "cassette tapes" ... 🇨🇦❤️🙏🏻 Goosebumps everytime 👍
Found this absolute gorgeous version on a cassete tape, my dad recorded back in the days. It brought damn tears to my eyes listening to it in my oldtimer for the frist time.
A sign of a good song is that it can be done in a different style and still be a good song. I love how the band just step back and enjoy the choir as much as we do.
I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations. Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year! All the Best! Gary Lagstrom
This was MSG in Sept I was front row center.. for both shows 28th and 29th :) This was the ONLY time the choir ever sang this ing live with U2 at a full concert. They actually played the song 2 times this night once alone and once with choir... most in the audience had no idea what the extra riser was for many thought Bruce Springsteen was going to join U2 that night but insiders knew all along the choir was coming as most of us that went to soundcheck that day knew ....
Thanks god he didn’t. Wow! Imagine him ruining this!? Instead of ignoring his existence , I would actually have to put forth some energy in my dislike. That would make him relevant to me. Dodged one there. 😅
The circle completes. U2's gospel-based song now sung on stage with New Voices of Freedom gospel choir, bringing it back to its roots in a glorious concert.
The greatest soulful collaboration I'd ever heard (35 years ago now) ... and now been able to witness. Thank you! [Just finished listening to Bono's recent insightful & moving autobiography "Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story" and can't recommend it enough (even though I disagree with much of his politics and have always been put off by his Messiah Complex; to his credit, he recognizes & acknowledges some of these shortcomings, like the mere sincere searching mortal poetic genius that he is.]
It prooves that's there is a God when we hear a version like this, singing with suche passion! Thx for that. God bless you all, who ever you are and wherever you live.
It had to be September 87. Bono hurt his arm in DC. I was there and saw him fall when he slipped on a wet stage. It had been raining on and off during the concert. I suspect it was the Madison Square Garden concert about eight days after DC.
I love this version of the song. It was in my head the last couple days and I knew I had to check YT because I just HAD to hear it. It was food for my soul. I really needed this. I listened to it and tears just streamed down my face (but in a good way). Plus, I love how the choir was just so into the song. God bless U2!
" Blessed are all who take refuge in him". Psalm 2. 🤴💜. " He will lift you higher and higher. He will pick you up when you fall. He'll be the shelter from the storm.". The Reign of the Holy Spirit over the earth.
Ficou maravilhoso! A melhor versão! Gosto muito!
これ観てました。アンコールの最後に彼らがステージに登りこの曲か始まりました。とても素敵な時間でした。 I was watching this. At the end of the encore they got on the stage and this song started. It was a very nice time.
I love this so so much..!! I love all the words, 'all the words.. ....I have climbed the highest mountains, I have run through the feilds, only to be with you, only to be with you, I Believe in Kingdom Come, where all the colors bleed into one, into one, one, one, I Love You Bono, I love U2
The segment from the film was excellent but I always wondered why the concert version from the album wasn't in the movie. Now I know. The footage, while a valuable as a historic document, is terrible. Get a camera on those soloists. They're amazing. Also, if you listen to the anniversary version of the album it contains this performance but Bono's vocals are different. This video has the audio from Rattle and Hum but the anniversary audio seems to contain Bono's actual live vocals from that night. You can see it here at 2:20 as Bono comes in early on the line 'I believe... (in the Kingdom Come)'. That line is completely audible on the anniversary track. Interesting stuff if you're a fan.
When you bring a choir and then you suddenly realize you let the force of faith empowerment in as well and you just sit in awe and let let it shine in its unstoppable glory...
the best is the video of them visiting the church in Harlem - where they got the idea to add a chior ... find that video and get out the tissues - you'll need 'em.

Yow jousty get! Ewe got paid to watch U2 and had a private screening. Jammy as fsck. Me, jealous as fsck!
The most special of all U2 songs, the best rendition of it with this amazing choir, making it the most uplifting song ever produced!!!
Best version of this song ever ever ever!
I love how the band eventually stopped playing and just let the choir take over. 🙌🙌🙌
This choir is EVERYTHING
I’ve loved this song for Decades 😎
Serious GOSPEL. That women is out of this world

At the 4:50 mark, Edge and Adam take their instruments off, in total respect and admiration for what the choir is doing.
Magnificent! "The Choir, The Choir, The Choir!" THEY SANG THIS SONG!!
I love how Bono steps aside, and is like go ahead guys. You fucking rule.
Like Robert Plant steps back when he’s not singing to give the ones playing there due. Always admired that.
I agree with other commenters ... THE BEST VERSION ever of this amazing song...Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum were my first two "cassette tapes" ... 🇨🇦❤️🙏🏻
Goosebumps everytime 👍
Goosebumps for SURE !!!
Yah! the best version.
Found this absolute gorgeous version on a cassete tape, my dad recorded back in the days. It brought damn tears to my eyes listening to it in my oldtimer for the frist time.
❤
La mejor versión sin duda, siempre me saca una lagrima
A sign of a good song is that it can be done in a different style and still be a good song.
I love how the band just step back and enjoy the choir as much as we do.
The best version by far
Agreed
Absolutely ! Brilliant

this will lift your spirits

@@deadringerjunior5705 Yep, sure mate mate, uh huh
Thanks god he didn’t. Wow! Imagine him ruining this!? Instead of ignoring his existence , I would actually have to put forth some energy in my dislike. That would make him relevant to me. Dodged one there. 😅
THE BEST VERSION EVERRRRR RECORDED and I've been listening since age 12.... MY VERY FIRST TAPE!! The Joshua Tree and then Rattle and Hum... beautiful
The circle completes. U2's gospel-based song now sung on stage with New Voices of Freedom gospel choir, bringing it back to its roots in a glorious concert.
Not much I can say about U2 that hasn't already been said, but that choir definitely took me to church.
One of the best gospel songs of all time!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏽🥰
Favorite version of this song! Powerful!
The greatest soulful collaboration I'd ever heard (35 years ago now) ... and now been able to witness. Thank you!

Bono's voice is clear as a bell here.
Beyond incredible!!!
Love this song.. I remember when I first heard it... October ‘87
Oh Yea..finding a great rendition like this gives my life meaning.
You broke the bonds, loosed the chains, carried the cross and all my shame! Sing it man!
I am crying in joy
as always it move me to the tears, and you know what it s beautifull like life is great
The bass of Adam Clayton is terrific, powerful, intense, dense, refflection of the choir.
Love it !
Awesome song, thanks much for spreading the word
Now, I have found what I was looking for. I loved to see the video of this amazing performance!! AMAZING!!
Imagine going to a U2 concert...and finding yourself taken to CHURCH! Amazing.
Audio on rattle and hum!!! What a version...bass is very good. Praise God!
I came here from a comment on the recent version they made at Jimmy Kimmel's. Wow my heart just burst out of my chest! Amazing!
Jimmy Kimmel's live show was good, but all the voices weren't there like they are here.
Best Version ever.. in a million lifetimes❤❤❤
MSG. I was at this show.
Sitting on the side of.stage. near the top
My goodness! Stop cutting onions! Beautiful version. Whew! 🖤❤️💜💯👍🏾🙌🏾

An amazing song made EVEN greater by the wonderful choir.
This is such an amazing song
" Blessed are all who take refuge in him". Psalm 2. 🤴💜.
" He will lift you higher and higher. He will pick you up when you fall.
He'll be the shelter from the storm.". The Reign of the Holy Spirit over the earth.
at 2:17 positively great as the band start up and accompany the choir. Goose pimples on my neck even after all these years hearing this.

Sin duda una de las mejores canciones de u2

I was watching this. At the end of the encore they got on the stage and this song started. It was a very nice time.

Watching this video and comments - I think I have found what I was looking for
New York, MSG, 28/9/1987 (Rattle and Hum Outtakes).
The only live version song that’d make me cry, that and All I Want Is You.
This is AWESOME !!!
Hasta Las Lágrimas...!!!!!!
この映像が見たかったー!

Yeah, this video footage is awful. I hope the camera man and video director found other professions because they failed here royally.
When you bring a choir and then you suddenly realize you let the force of faith empowerment in as well and you just sit in awe and let let it shine in its unstoppable glory...
The Messiah. " he will lift you higher and higher , ect. St Michael.
great great great
AMAZING
one of U2 best.
The woman sounds like aretha franklin❤️👍👌🏻🇮🇪
the best is the video of them visiting the church in Harlem - where they got the idea to add a chior ... find that video and get out the tissues - you'll need 'em.
I have loved U2 my entire life and have always been amazed to still I find 💎💎💎 like this.
Also, what happened to Bono’s arm?
la migliore versione.
Wow
great! amazing song
Does anyone know where to find the chorus partitures? thanks all
Maybe since Bono’s Arm wasn’t doing well, he put all his emphasis on singing so well!
burning hot like fire or burning hot as fire?
i have kissed honey lips, felt the healing in her fingertips. fuck i miss her.
La voix de la Fille a la toute fin ...Elke a la voix
I'm not sure why, but every time I hear this version it reminds me of Jonestown.
QUE VIVA U2
