Stockholm is very beautiful and friendly city. We stayed at Scandic hotel directly across the street from central Station. This allowed easy access to all the museums. Walking the city was very fun and great access for walkers, bikers, and often electric autos.

"And that's changed a lot since Håkan and Ylva were children, including new world wines and lots of spices brought by recent immigrants to enliven the traditional meat, fish and potato staples." This is a common misconception that people have. Not only was Sweden one of the first countries to have it's own East West India companies, it is known now that even during early medieval times and even before, there was an import of exotic spices, common thanks to the trade by vikings who traded as far south as the middle east, central asia and northern africa, and then after that the Hanseatic League took over the same trade routes. Among the most popular of these exotic spices (made available to people), were hot curries from the indian subcontinent, pepper and chili. When looking at old Swedish cook books for example and from other archaeological discoveries of mummified spices. A lot of dishes were probably in fact much much much spicier than they are today. Only in the last hundred years or so, did food in many parts of Europe turn bland, as spices were harder to come by mainly due to world war or economically bad times. So I wouldn't say that food invented as recent as a hundred years are "traditional". Because this is incorrect.
There was certainly trade with faraway nations even during early medieval times, but how common exactly were chili and curries in say, the 12-15th century? I doubt there was such an abundance of these spices that the average person could make use of them in their daily cooking. Swedish traditional food is bland and comparatively tasteless because the only preservatives available for a long time were salt and the cold outdoors during winter. I can guarantee you no 14th century Swedish peasant ever cooked anything with chili or curry.
Happytown In a way you are correct. The peasantry would not use that much spices, however they would use homegrown or foraged herbs and vegetables if they were in season. So food was way more aromatic. But to be fair. The peasantry isn’t normally counted when speaking of such things. In fact. They were not even registered as citizens up until the late 1500’s/early 1600’s. So to explore what is available, one must actually look at the nobility or bourgeoisie. This is where you will find spices. It was a sign of luxury and oppulence to use as many spices as you could afford. This is how blends of spices were invented in Sweden during the medieval period that still survive to this day (gotländsk medeltidskrydde for example) And that is essentially what a ”curry” is. And we know they used a lot of spices from old trade lists. And also old inventory parchments and books from castles or palaces.

krydder NEVER trust the weather! I live in Stockholm and (specially at the summer) it can rain AND be sunny on the same day! I will say that if you want to shopping its just to ask for "city". We actully dont have a name for that part of the town but yeah, everyones know what city is. If you want to se Stockholms old and beautyful places, go to "Gamla Stan" that means "Old town". Have fun in Sweden! (Not that good at spelling though but im 12 so.. yeah..)
+Emma J :: I think in this season ,the best countries for traveling are Iran & India , you can see rare birds & Animals and amazing forests in Caspian sea ,And even Persian Cuisines and Indian Cuisines are great,..I know these countries very well because I have traveled to many remote areas in both countries
I would like to Visit Stockholm meeting its Wonderful People and See this Charming City which I will Be able to Do once these Lock-downs have Finished.
We would like to thank you for one more great video! We are happy to see many places we have visited in May 2017 while travelling from Turku (Finldand) to Stockholm (Sweden) by cruise and it was an amazing experience. We spent a couple of days in Stockholm and we were luck to get some good tips from a friend of ours that is Swedish to visit the city, including not only the old town, but Skansen Open-Air Museum, Drottningholm Palace and specific places as House of Nobility and Vasa Museum. Feeling nostalgic :-)
I am having a great time in Stockholm! There were a few days of passing showers, one day of constant rain, and a few days of sun. I guess that is rather good luck! As I am on a budget, I rented an apartment, and food is about the same price as in San Francisco where I live. Unlike there, the streets and public transportation are clean. I do not see many mentally ill and homeless people on the streets.
A very well-made video, and i know as i live in Stockholm. I have seen several lousy amateur videos from Stockholm, but this one is clearly made by professionals.
If you want even more Nobel, and some really nice scenery, you should go to "Vinterviken" which is located just a short walk from "Aspudden", a suburb to the south of Stockholm (12 minute subway ride from the city centre). There you will find a really nice café in the old dynamite factory, as well as multiple blast pits. As any other Swede, I love it there on a sunny summer day, but it's almost just as nice in the middle of winter when the water is frozen and there's a thick layer of snow on the ground. :)

@@QuickZ_ Correct! Modern day Turkey is wrong though (Turkey didn't exist yet). It was imported from the Ottoman Empire and Caliphate (Syria and Lebanon).
"Djurgården" doesn't mean "The Garden Island". It means "The Animal Garden".

Dear stokholm, believe me you are amazing😍😍😍

Hello how are you
Being half Danish and haft Swedish I have to stay on natural ground but never the less Go Vikings !!!
so excited to visit this beautiful city, really amazing video
Imagine if Stockholm with it's islands where floating in the sky. A sky city. Now thats amazing.
Nice and very intresting video. I have plans to visit Stockholm this summer. I am really looking forward to that.
That's nice, if you have the time (and money) to go to Visby, I would highly recommend it. It is beautiful and in the first week of August there is a medieval week with tournaments and everything.
When I was there in June a few years ago it rained a lot. Bring rain clothes!
krydder NEVER trust the weather!
(Not that good at spelling though but im 12 so.. yeah..)
***** Thank you.
Lovely video of Stockholm my hometown 😎
You've got a nice looking home town.
This is the most useful vlog about Stockholm 👍 Thank you.
love it..amazing city and museum.
Feeling nostalgic :-)
great and aesthetics at its best
I am having a great time in Stockholm! There were a few days of passing showers, one day of constant rain, and a few days of sun. I guess that is rather good luck! As I am on a budget, I rented an apartment, and food is about the same price as in San Francisco where I live. Unlike there, the streets and public transportation are clean. I do not see many mentally ill and homeless people on the streets.
Good time stamps. Really helpful on the video navigation.
Such a beautiful place!😊
beautiful city and beautiful women - Sweden has it all
I want marid you
Amazing video Steves!!!!!
I loved it❤ thank you for making this video😍Mr. Rick Steve
Hello how are you doing I hope you’re fine
The land of my birth. ...the homeland of my father. Lived just outside of Stockholm the first 6 years of my life.
A very well-made video, and i know as i live in Stockholm. I have seen several lousy amateur videos from Stockholm, but this one is clearly made by professionals.
Stockholm i mitt hjärta!
Hello how are you doing I hope you’re fine
If you want even more Nobel, and some really nice scenery, you should go to "Vinterviken" which is located just a short walk from "Aspudden", a suburb to the south of Stockholm (12 minute subway ride from the city centre). There you will find a really nice café in the old dynamite factory, as well as multiple blast pits.
As any other Swede, I love it there on a sunny summer day, but it's almost just as nice in the middle of winter when the water is frozen and there's a thick layer of snow on the ground. :)
