- I have only a few days to get this bike setup optimal for descending. Heres a look into the process, if you like it I’ll make a part 2
From someone who doesn’t know a huge deal about suspension these videos with you describing what your feeling through the bike and how to correct and adjust the suspension are super helpful. Awesome vids man keep up the good work 👍🏼
Thanks mate, plenty more suspension talk coming too
@@mtbtelly5522 looking forward to it 👍🏼
This video helped alot damn! I just upgraded the damper from the grip to the Grip2 I’ve been trying to dial it in for 3-4weeks now
Thanks for sharing ryan, i'm 170lbs with equiptment and currently runing on my Fox 38: 80 PSI - 2 Tokens, from fully open-> 3HSC - 6LSC - 2 HSR - 8 LSR
Does that feel a little dead and low at the front?
@@mtbtelly5522 just remember, if he rides with balance more rearward the fork will be lighter. exactly why giving actual numbers as advice is a bad idea. im not working it based on his compression etc but sometimes a heavier rider with less psi and running more low speed will make the fork feel very plush.
@@mtbtelly5522 Not low at all, it's more planted than lively just as i like. i think if you want a more lively feeling crank up the HSR and the LSC. cheers from Chile mate!!, looking forward to part 2!
@@Teje.wheels wicked, its a good fork, i can see how your seup would work now that I’ve done some time on the fork 👌🏽
Gotta love the mid run shock adjustments haha.
My signature move!
I am always hoping to see someone with a mara pro or dvo topaz shock on an SB150 to see if the improvement is big enough to warrant the buy. If you get the chance, please try it out :)
Keen to see what settings you end up I have the same hardware on my megatower. Still play with the X2 after 8 months. I’m 90kg 250psi, 3 tokens,
250psi Lsc - 13
HSC- 11
Lsr - 12
Hsr - 10 running 38 with 2 tokens 95psi, volume spacers
100 psi
Lsc - 11
HSC - 5
Lsr - 12
Hsr - 2 all settings from closed
How close was fox recommendations to your final setup. Interested to know with a new bike on the way which has the 36 grip2 and x2 shock. Keep these coming, number 1 on RUclips for me when it comes to explaining suspension setup. 👍
I have a 2021 36 170mm Grip2 and have had a hell of a time getting it to feel good, at the start it was so harsh no matter what I did. I pulled it apart and found the seals were bone dry, and the air spring was clogged with grease (thanks to this channel for the tips!).
It was much better after that, but I have to run the rebound quite fast to get rid of the small bump harshness. It came with zero tokens, but adding two seemed to improve this (even at the same air pressure?).
I'm 75kg, here are my final settings, all from closed:
2 tokens
73 PSI
LSC: 12
HSC: 5
LSR: 9
HSR: 7
@@PetrolHead209 thats quite fast on the hsr. I can’t believe how many for forks keep coming with the clogged up air springs. What a hassle!
@@mtbtelly5522 Yeah it just feels like it's packing down on chattery stuff otherwise. Wonder if I should increase PSI to keep it higher in it's travel, then I might not need so much HSR?
Is that a 35mm long EDC stem? how did that feel on the front heavy 150? cheers for the video!
Just got my new YT with 2021 X2 shock and Fox 38 fork. Now I’m like shit,,, idk how to tune all these dials. Hi and Low Rebound, HSC, LSC... 🤦🏼♂️
hand guards would be useful on that trail. a lot to smash the hands on.
Very helpful!I have just got a new rebuild fox X2,still struggle to set it up properly,i started from the fox,s recommendation. And four way adjustment is too much for me. BTW,i run deluxe before, which just have rebound and low speed compression.
Yep the 4 way adjustment leaves way too much potential for a poor setup, especially if you’re not familiar with the effect the different adjustments can have on your ride
If you think that's a bad day for testing...come to ireland u will love it..🤣
Hey Telly, as an overall ride quality, cornering, climbing etc, how does a "superbike" compare to the slash?, do you really think that would be worth the $$$ for yeti?
The cornering characteristics feel promising. But the suspension setup is not where it could be yet so theres no comparison
@@mtbtelly5522 look forward to seeing if you can get it dialled for proper comparison 🤘
The fox factory dials in well eh ?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🇦🇺💪
We’ll see, should be a hitter for sure. Not there yet but
my dream bike
its insane! lol
Hi again love your videos :). How are you liking 38 compared to your lyrik so far? I just bought the frame for my new build that I am sure will stay with me for couple of seasons and despite being more like a rockshox guy after watching reviews on zeb/38/lyrik I think I will get 38. I know you had been riding fox performance elite for a while. What's your opinion on kashima coating? Would you pick it over performance elite? I have heard that it may hold up better in long therm but really didn't find any evidence on that. I think that it may help to sell the bike with better price in the future.
I prefer Black over the Kashima personally. Its no different performance-wise, just a signature look.
I prefer my Lyrik with B1 debonair spring so far, but I don’t have the 38 setup to potential yet. So we’ll see how it goes at full noise then I’ll make a more detailed comparison
@@mtbtelly5522 Great, thanks for answear. I will be looking forward to the comparsion :)
In my humble opinion, i will keep the lyrik over zeb anytime but I will use 38 all the time.
Are you running the new 2021 X2 with the updated damper? The approach taken to the high speed circuits this year is, apparently, a significant improvement.
No its the previous model with the 2019/20 cicuitry. Eager to try fhe new one as they need improvement
Setting up Fox shocks is frustrating as hell! Ive got the old X2 on my Ripmo and Im still mucking around with the pressure and damper settings 6 months on, Im a clydesdale though so my settings are more like 7clicks from full closed, its one thing Rockshox kicks Fox all over the place with, although forks setup is probably alot closer.
Its quite a battle to find something that works with so much potential for poor setup. Gotta get the spring rate and curve right, then compliment it with compression damping, its near impossible to get right without a fair bit of experience with the adjustments
@@mtbtelly5522 my biggest issue with setup was that the ripmo v1 doesnt have much progression built into its kinematics and being 110kg and a bit of a downhill bomber Im up around 260psi(max spacers) to achieve sag(15mm) and still was blowing through the travel so Ive had to compensate with high speed compression which has kinda worked but feels like a compromise I shouldnt have to make, think they fixed this a bit with the ripmo v2 but im getting the impression Ibis bikes are for lighter riders, thinking of maybe going new transition sentinel or quite interested in the new slash (great setup videos btw) as I quite liked the old model.
@@samc821 damn, you’re on the right track with the hsc compromise, but thats what you need to keep strength in the stroke. Yeah I’m liking the Slash, I’d assume it would work well under a heavier rider, it has a progressive curve and the rear shocks compression options are strong.
How did you get the One-Up EDC installed on that oval shape steerer on the Fox 38?
Its the newer mini tool that doesn’t need to be threaded in
So what was ya end result in settings buddy 🤔 would like to try it
Your videos are so informative for new riders. Btw what’s your weight?
I’m 75kg geared up
@@mtbtelly5522 im also 75 kg geared up, what settings would you recommend for a 170 mm yari, and 160 mm rockshox delux select plus on the rear for my trek slash 7? Im a pretty hard hitting guy, and go fast whenever im on a trail! Cheers mate
@@timvelisek8764 21 slash? Or 19/20
@@mtbtelly5522 2021
@@timvelisek8764 yari I’d go with 2 tokens 80-82psi, and a few clicks of compression to dial in some control. Rear I’d take any spacers out and set it up to what ever pressure has you at or just over 30% seated sag, and rebound to suit. The C1 debonair spring in the New yari/lyrik is not excellent but can still get a great setup out of it. I prefer the previous B1 spring for the rockshox forks for optimal setup
Hello dude, i have got a 2021 sb150, was thinking the x2 wasnt valved correctly at first, harsh feeling at the beginning of the stroke, went softer and softer but it blew threw the travel and there was bo support. I bought a cascade link and man what an upgrade the beginning of the stroke feels like butter so much traction and way more support at the end, i have now dialed in the settings of the x2, the bike eats everything with no worries and you dont feel the bottom outs
Nice! So just adding the link made the shock perform better at the same setup? Or did you have to adjust pressure etc
@@mtbtelly5522 with the same setup the bike felt way less harsh over small bumps, but i did increase the air pressure by 5 psi and add 2 tokens for the big bottom outs. Man the rear end of this sb150 works so well, i am now disapointed with my lyrik rc2 ultimate, the air spring doesnt feel right, i tried the B1 170, luftkappe 170, i am now on the C1 170, and the initial part feels a little bit harsh then not much support and i never reach the end of travel, probably going to go back to the b1 or luftkappe but with 180 travel because it was saging at 162 and the balance of the bike felt a little bit off
@@Mastereur411 nice one, cheers!
high many clicks of high speed how ya goin did you end with from fully tapped
Haha 3 in from open on the fork, cant remember on the rear
That bike looks stunning. Prefer metal bikes personally though
I’m not sold on carbon bikes either. This thing is a work of art
@@mtbtelly5522 They're nice looking and perform well, but I just always hit my frame on something and I like that the material is properly recycleable
Open up the rear high speed rebound. I bet it’s too slow and packing up. That’s why the rear end feels stiff
Turns out the damper had ingested air so I took it off and put the Push coil back on. My next X2 bike I’ll try a faster hsr config and tune around that, I’m pretty sure that’ll introduce too much chop out back but I’ll go through the setting and try counter it
This is what I found on my DHX2 recently, kept messing with preload/compressions etc. it just needed more HSC and HSR.
How is your final set up? And how psi are the tires?
22 up front and 25 out back. I didn’t find a great setup from the shock as it had air in the damper circuits
Hey, du you have a une up edc tool v2 install with the threads?
No threads
@@mtbtelly5522 But the V2 with the preload kit? Or de new short one?
@@paarasit8854 this is the new short one
How'd the oval chainring go?
Feels similar to a round ring but with a flat spot in the stroke. I don’t like the inconsistent stroke the oval comes with, though I’ve adapted to it. We’ll see how I feel when I’m done with the bike.
What happened to the trek slash??
the rear rim got smashed on a rock, it bent the rim, and rear wheel got rebuilt by a shop. but he still has the bike
the yeti is just a bike he is trying and setting up for a friend.
I follow him on instagram.
Yeah the Slash is waiting patiently in the back ground for her turn to shine again
Another new bike ?
Not mine just a loaner
