1.5 Kw North Wales Hydroelectric System Installation Part 2 Timber Framed Powerhouse

  • For the last two weeks I have been working on the timber framed powerhouse for the hydro system I am doing for a customer. I milled all the timber at home and did all the joinery in my workshop. I then towed the building in kit form to the property and myself and Raf put the building together in two days. I think it came out well and its lovely to have all the space inside to work.

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

Never underestimate the power of nature ... and the one worry I have is the base square, which is lying flat on the concrete ... which has the danger of creating condensation on the cold concrete, which will them cause that square to ROT. It isnt even rain that would be necessary ... just pure condensation from cold nighttime temperatures on warm days.
It might have been a good idea to put a layer of clay between the bottom square and the concrete to push out any air pockets and thus moisture ... and then finish it off with a bit of pait to keep moisture from creeping into the clay.

I enjoyed watching this episode very much. An all electric workshop that is off-grid that had rain (a lot by the sound of it) to power the 'hydro' then bright sunshine to give your new solar panels their turn.
Love the joinery; i once read an article called "The House With No Nails" & you've shown how to peg timber joins so that they not only hold but are drawn tight.
I did wonder how the roof was going to be clad.
