  • Today we will be building a heavy cruiser to fill the gaps in my fleets lineup so far, which makes this the first "capital ship" we've made! It surely won't be the final one, but it's a good start for our future conquest of the seas of Neter!

    Those kinds of game are real fun,
    Like Sprocket and Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts
    For a battleship, there's many nice designs,
    Like the Kongō/New Mexico with the 356mm guns, but if you want something a bit bigger, there's the Nagato/Colorado (especially the West Virginia with more 127mm DP guns than the Colorado)

    • @loficampingguy9664
      @loficampingguy9664 Год назад +2

      Oooh, seeing a Colorado done in FtD would be a real treat. Post-rebuild WeVi would probably be more capable but an interwar configuration of any of the three would be a very cool and unique approach.

  • @PeterBarnes2

    You might step up to a Battlecruiser instead of a whole Battleship. Maybe do some three gun turrets, focus on packing stuff more into the same space, get some active defenses like CIWS and Lasers. Taking a smaller step up might help with learning those components so that when you move up to a battleship it's as deadly as you think it should be.
    I'd also love to see some of the finer details. FtD is nothing if not a game of details. How are your engines set up? What do your APS shells look like and why? How good is your tetris? What exactly does your armor layering look like, and how does it vary across different parts of the ship?

  • @jessegd6306
    @jessegd6306 11 месяцев назад

    Frankly if you're gonna go for campaign, you'll wanna invest in a solid freighter design. Something large with a lot of storage space, doesn't need to be fast, probably has only just enough defenses to plink at a plane or two such as a single large flak gun with a couple smaller machineguns, and counter incoming missiles with decoys, all of this while being vaguely cheap enough to field and ferry resources to and from locations or just serving as an overall repair/resupply auxiliary ship. Try a Liberty Cargo ship, for example.
    Or if you still need semi-cheap firepower, try going for a submarine early on so enemies will struggle to hit you with armaments that aren't depth charges or torpedoes, like a Type VIIc or Gato class.

    Oh, I didn't get to guess what ship she is:( even if the fourth turret would maybe confuse me.
    Now when it comes to what to build next.......I have a few ideas.
    I'm not sure if a battleship is the best idea. But perhaps something in the middle. Large cruisers like Alaska or battlecruisers like renown maybe a better idea.
    Another ship could be graff spee. She could be that ship that beings a fair bit of firepower those 11" guns. However she could be cheaper than the before mentioned type of ships if you end up really needing the firepower.

    One thing I'd recommend for a CIWS system against CRAM that I find works really well is a APS of 100mm (50 if you don't have a lot of space) with a AP head, a solid warhead or two and stabilizers (1, 2 or 3 stabilizers, depends on what you wanna use), after that its all about fine tuning for if you want a rapid fire variant like a Goalkeeper or Phalanx or fire moderately but hit hard like a bofors, if you perfect the method you can place at least 2 on your ship, one on the fore and one of the aft, and it should cover you fairly well, alternatively you can take the Yamato approach and stick quad simple weapons everywhere.

    • @PatchBits
      @PatchBits  Год назад

      All the 20mm, 40mm, and 50.cal guns are wired up as CIWS, and there's also a small interceptor missile array at the back. It's definitely not perfect, but it exists lol.

      @voin5371 Год назад

    Ill be honest (and accept the hate this comment will bring) the Yamato was a very powerful Super Dreadnought but, in terms of destructive power vs cost/weight/size it was one of the most inefficient warships ever made.

    • @tommeakin1732
      @tommeakin1732 Год назад +1

      Were they? I'm aware of the generally horrendous efficiency of ww2 era German ships, but I'm yet to hear anyone describe the Yamatos as inefficient. They seem to have been a modern ships in most fundamental regards. But I have no idea about costs tbh

    • @whoknows8864
      @whoknows8864 Год назад

      @@tommeakin1732 This got kinda long, so TL;DR at the end.
      Despite the thick armour, the quality of the steel was bad by ww1 standards.
      The onboard anti-air was abysmal (I'm sure you see how that was a problem). The fire control system was almost solely optical.
      Against an Iowa, which has armor of the same effective thickness if not better, it would have almost no chance. The Iowa could land entire volleys of rounds into the yamato because of its radar system before the yamato could even know what was attacking it. The biggest problem though is that the Yamato can't hit what it's crew can't see, while the Iowas could consistently hit targets beyond the horizon. And since the Iowas were faster, the Yamato would never be able to effectively fire at it.
      The Yamato was a LOT cheaper than the Iowas were, though a lot of the difference can be attributed to the poor build quality the the yamato.
      As far as efficiency goes, the Yamato fought in one battle where it might have sank two destroyers. Most of its time was spent in dry docks for repairs or docked as a fancy hotel for higher ups in the japanese navy.
      TL;DR Due to it being used as a glorified hotel, it was a huge waste of money, but more importantly for the Japanese, it was a huge waste of resources.
