  • Today I test out the CAD PodMaster D USB podcasting microphone. If you are looking to start a podcast this is a solid USB microphone option. It comes with everything you might need to get going and it sounds pretty good. It is a dynamic microphone so it will reduce the amount of room noise you hear while using it. It does not have an XLR option so it will be limited to USB only. It is extremely affordable so you can't really go wrong if you decide to pick up this mic to get started.

It’s interesting to see the industry adapt to the needs of podcasters, especially those who do not want to go the XLR route. Prior to the last year, the USB dynamic microphone market was very restrictive. That’s no longer the case, all of these companies want to get in on the action.
One thing I will say about this mic is that it seems to be extremely prone to plosives.

When I lived in the NYC area in the late 90s, there was a news/talk channel on FM radio which used huge reverb similar to the echo on the CAD. I always thought it was stupid for what they were doing. But it wasn't bad with your singing.

How did you set it up exactly with your camera and what not? Or did you just have to sing your audio with the footage?

I'm having trouble setting it up, when my headset is plugged straight into to mic it sounds loud and I can hear every little noise like breathing and stuff but when I'm listening to it from the sound properties tab it sounds very low and not sure if I can be heard enough it's weird

Sounds pretty bad to my ear...Muffled and lacking clarity for sure. Echo a feature almost no one needs...just need a gain knob, zero latency monitoring and headphone volume control on USB mics please! Thanks for the video!

It does say voice over on the bottom of the box, I feel the echo could be for that

Voiceover actors need a much better mic than this.

Sounds awful. Is that windscreen really a small memory foam pillow? Terrible. Pretty disappointed in CAD on this one.
