    This whole tarnish situation wouldn’t be so bizarre if Tudor’s marketing hadn’t claimed it doesn’t tarnish. For me personally, I don’t find a silver cased watch appealing.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 года назад +6

      Exactly!! If they just said from the start that it would tarnish even just a little bit everyone would be more than happy! Or even if Tudor would just give us pointers on how to care for it and acknowledge that something is happening. In the end I'm not angry with the situation, I would just like clarification

    • @satai
      @satai 3 года назад

      Yeah, but they would also have sold a lot less watches without that statement.
      It is a bit shady because I think they intentionally do not have such a Statement on the Official Website. They would have if they were really sure about it.

    • @clerkp4933
      @clerkp4933 3 года назад

      @@satai completely agree. Without the promise, no one would buy. Now Tudor needs to back it up. The policy should be pretty simple, if your watch tarnishes and you aren’t satisfied, you can exchange it for another Tudor. It’s not hard. I think this will end up being the “unofficial” policy. I will say that grey tarnish is super cool. Like I want that. I’d pay more for it!

    • @satai
      @satai 3 года назад

      Yes, the dark grey looks amazing, but That seems to be rare.
      I do not believe in a exchange option … but we might see

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 года назад +1

      @MrSatai I'm not so sure they would have sold a lot less if they just said "this new alloy is highly resistant to tarnish" which would set roughly the right expectations and leave Tudor some wiggle room.
      Fewer people would buy the 925 for sure but I think it would just be a matter of the wait-list being shorter 😂
      Also I need to find a hot tub to soak bc I want to get that dark grey tarnish asap!!

    I got mine about a month ago. When it first came out, I fell for it and decided that would make the perfect watch to wear for my wedding. I've tried it on twice, once at the shop and once when I got home to take some mandatory pics. I'm dreading the tarnish. I don't know enough about silver tarnish to know how much it'll change whilst it's locked away for another 8 months. All I know is that I bought into Tudors ”it won't tarnish, not in a million years” marketing, and now I'm debating selling it and putting the money towards something else before the tarnish sets it. I feel like I'm sitting on a wall, with owners one side showing and saying it does tarnish, and quickly. And Tudor on the other side saying “it will not tarnish”, “it won't tanish”, ”ours hasn't changed at all”, “our special silver will not tarnish ever!”. Unless they release the make up of their alloy, or provide something to back up their claims, I'm gonna start assuming Tudor is in denial

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 года назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply but congratulations on the 925 and on your future wedding!! The 925 would be an awesome watch to wear for such a special occasion for sure!
      But I totally get where you're coming from given all the uncertainty that's surrounding the watch but if your 925 stays inside until your wedding there won't be any tarnish on it unless something crazy happens! Mine hasn't gone outside very much lately and the tarnish hasn't progressed at all pretty much.
      Additionally there are many owners out there who are wearing their 925s out and about quite often and they aren't reporting any signs of tarnish so there's a solid chance that your watch might be one of the tarnish resistant ones!!
      Either way I hope everything goes well and if you get a chance let me know how your 925 is coming along!!

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 2 года назад

      You're "locking it away for 8 months"? Why? So it won't be tarnished for your wedding? Get rid of it now. If you're so concerned with tarnishing that you locked it away for 8 months, you won't be able to deal with the tarnishing after the wedding either. If TWI's watch looks like trash after a few months, you better get rid of it soon. It looks like the whole thing has been dipped in coffee and stained.

    • @philstewart6477
      @philstewart6477 2 года назад

      @@littlejackalo5326 I want the brilliance of the silver case to be ever present on the day of my wedding. I'm not sure how I'd I feel about it tarnishing after that, I'd like to think I would be less bothered because the watch then has some sentimental value. Something I can hand down. I still think its a stunning watch, I just wish Tudor had been on the money with the “never tarnish” promise (and I a little less gullible)

  • @dredgewalker

    baking soda in warm water with aluminum foil underneath is another method to remove the tarnish is a more gentler way to clean silver. You can also try sulfur powder mixed with vaseline makes a good cleaning compound. Any rubbing will slowly remove the surface finish of the watch when done too frequently. I'm a jeweler and we use cyanide to remove silver tarnish but it's not something we don't recommend for people to do at home.

  • @plojbravo4911
    @plojbravo4911 3 года назад +3

    My first 925 had tarnishing on it straight from the beginning when I picked it up new from my AD. I noticed it first when I came out of the store, out in the sunlight, 5 min after picking it up (it was your first vid that made me aware of this & why I really checked for it extra carefully). So I went back, they took it back and sent it back to Tudor immediately. I got a new one from their next delivery from Tudor two days after and that one was perfect. And so far, 3 weeks in, I have had no noticeable tarnish on it.
    So it seems to me that there might be some inconsistencies in production quality with these at the moment.

      Thanks for responding! I really want to get a 925 but hate tarnish. If it’s a case of. “Sorry. Bad batch. Here take another” no worries but I do not want to be stuck with a brownish tarnished case. The dark grey in this video was kind of cool but would prefer it just stay the way I bought it.

    • @plojbravo4911
      @plojbravo4911 3 года назад

      @@FightingMango Yeah I agree. But I fell in love with the watch when I first tried it on (and ordered it on the spot) at my local AD, +1 months before I received my own. The silver does have a really nice glow to it compared to steel. So I'm willing to take the risk, because when it is as supposed to it just looks awesome.
      My AD has confirmed as well that it shouldn't tarnish, which means I don't have to accept that and if this one also will start tarnishing I will most likely just change it to something else. I have a good relationship with my AD and this isn't my first watch from them, so I feel quite confident in them and their service. So if Tudor can't deliver I just simply will change to something else (I really hope not though), because I won't accept much tarnishing either. But as said, I'm willing to take the chance for now, because the one I have now just looks soooo good and I'm super pleased with it so far!

If I had no purchase history from before I would be happy to just be accepted on the waiting list for this model at the moment.
      It's even worse with Rolex, as an example (as I'm sure you're aware of). I'm now starting to get approval for getting on the waiting list on some models from them now which the AD would just decline me for back in the day.

    Bought mine in May and sent back to Rolex/Tudor in July as the movement kept stopping after just 10-12 hours even with full wind. Apparently they are short on parts and won’t had it repaired until Nov/Dec of this year. AWFUL experience. Tudor doesn’t seem to care about customer experience. If I’d had known I would have been without the watch the first 6 months of “ownership”, I would never have bought this watch.

      @@thewatchidiot Yes, if Tudor cared about customer experience they would have offered me a brand new watch or refund. Neither is offered by AD or Tudor. They kept saying their hands were tied and blamed covid. No accountability. I do not see myself every buying from this AD again or buying Tudor again. This experience has taken me from being a Tudor advocate to a Tudor critic. It’s a shame Tudor could care less about their customers.

    As a 925 owner myself, I find the fact that 50% of all commentary on the 925 addresses tarnish and it is becoming quite tedious. It is a beautiful watch, and the slight changes in patina can give the watch more character. In my case, after 5 months, there is zero tarnish. If that's all that is spoken about, it will devalue the watch in peoples minds, distracting from its beauty and uniqueness. Thankfully, it's one of Mr. Wonderful's favorite watches. The alloy is comprised of 92.5% silver with the remainder being small amounts of zinc, palladium, and indium.

    The tarnish that you remove and that sits between the eraser and the case will be abrasive. But if you have tarnish at all, then that is the metal reacting and hence the finish is already "damaged". The issue with removing tarnish is that you are exposing the metal again which allows more tarnishing to happen. If I was Tudor, I would have used a polished finish on this watch rather than a brushed finish, as that is less easily damaged, and doesn't create as many surfaces imperfections for tarnishing to happen.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  2 года назад

      Yeah any sort of removal will require some level of abrasion however using a soft eraser will at least be less abrasive than using a heavy duty polishing cloth. A polished case would have been easier to maintain but the look and finish of the fully brushed case is just so incredible so i think its worth it in the end!

    Thanks so much for this video. I really would love to get a 925 but hate tarnish. Hearing the stories of people getting them switched out by Tudor is encouraging but I also which Tudor would address this one way or another. Our bad, it will tarnish or. No no. We had a production hiccup. We will see that you get a non tarnishing watch.

      Yeah it really is unfortunate that we arent getting more clarity on the situation even in terms of how to care for the watch or an approved way to remove the tarnish for those who want to! There are some owners out there reporting no tarnish but at this point theres no knowing which 925 will tarnish and which one wont. Hopefully this gets resolved bc it really is an incredible watch and I hope more people can get one without any worries!

    Im not into the "Patina" look , thats why i do not get bronze or silver watches (lazy to clean). Butwhat i like about silver is that it has a more brilliant tinge to it (whiter) than steel . I think a dry climate should slow down the onset of patina a bit ( air and less moisture to react with the silver).

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 года назад

      Silver cloth is an effective way to remove tarnish however only on polished surfaces bc it is quite abrasive. We're trying to figure out the best way to get rid of the tarnish while maintaining the brushed finish which is a little more tricky. If only Tudor would help us out! 😂

    Silver alloy's are sensitive to electrolysis, in your wash basin at home there could be a very low level of electric bleed from a geyser that is earthed to the water main, or diving in a harbour while there is welding going on steel boats close by, pools with chlorinators, the risks are endless.

    • @thewatchidiot
