I honestly believe this to be one of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded, both from a technical perspective and a performance perspective. And yes, I fully comprehend the magnitude of that claim.
I compare this with the rough live recording of waiting room (and I don't mean that in a bad way it was just two magical recordings that were very special).
And I fully agree with the magnitude of that claim! The phenomenon that happens every time I watch a reaction video to this... it's just so magical to watch people who introduce that they are going to hear this for the first time, and they enter it with no expectations. But then... every time... you see the moment that they instantly realize that this is something beyond special. That moment they realize it is something spectacular! It can happen within 5 seconds... 20 seconds ... maybe even 30 seconds. Like an epiphany. But even at that moment, they have no idea that not only does it continue to be something magical... it actually goes even further! and further... and further! Rappers react to this... opera singers react to this... voice teachers and heavy metal rockers react to this. And each time, it is the same thing. They very quickly cross that threshold into a magic landscape that this video takes them into, until thy come out the other side... speechless, and exhausted, and not really understanding what just happened. And that's when they realize... that their mind was just so unexpectedly blown. I love experiencing that mind blow with people. Cuz it happens every time for me. And it's so satisfying to join each person who walks so innocently into this trap... and comes out the other side, changed. She's just so, so, so remarkable.
I am so jealous I wish I could hear this song again for the first time because my first reaction mirrored your reaction. Good analysis, Her voice is like diamonds in your ears.
"adding grit" Haley's speaking voice has a lot of texture, so some of that 'grit' is naturally occurring. She described herself as a tomboy w/ a 'froggy' voice growing up. She can imitate South Park's Eric Cartman. She auditioned to be the voice of "Charlie Brown" in the Peanuts movie. Apparently, that recording was what Vince Vaughn & Bill Burr listened to when they cast Haley as the voice of a young Bill Burr in their animated Netflix adult animation show, "F is For Family". BTW, the 'hidden' drummer was necessity, Scott started this out in his apartment, so there wasn't usually much room so the drummer would often be behind the vocalist. My channel has over 12 years of Haley Reinhart live performances if you're interested.
I so enjoyed your analysis/review. Thought you were going to burst with joy! And your vocabulary makes me relentlessly happy. Bravo! And Haley is completely on point with her movements, dress, and pronunciation. Just love this song. Thank you!
One thing that always stuns me is how her breaths are a part of the performance as well. Sighs, and inhales that sound like crying, and not breaking character.
Haley may have more complete control over, and understanding of, her instrument than any vocalist in recent memory. Especially when you consider the breadth of techniques and styles she has mastered. And, as you note, Bradlee's arrangement behind her is brilliant and the band delivers perfectly.
When I saw that this was a 36 minute reaction, I didn’t anticipate watching it all. Well, I did stay till the end. It’s such an amazing performance and you broke it down wonderfully. Great job.
@@saltydroog854 that was her self take, 'a fast vibrato', she's also got masterful control of her vocals, so a butterfly's flutter is well within her range ;)
That's such a wonderful reaction; not only demonstrating your obvious delight in the nuances and sheer grandeur of this performance, but also showcasing your insightful technical analysis of the complexity and prowess of Haley's extraordinary command of her vocals. Great fun, Dude! I'm subscribing right now.
One interesting observation. Usually the band will lead the key change and the vocalist will follow. However, if you notice the band actually stops, and Haley leads the key change. She is really an incredible musician and vocalist and totally underrated.
This is one of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded... as a comment below points out. She recorded this after recording All About the Bass . The next day she wanted to redo this song because she didn't think she did it good enough. They said no way last nights recording was perfect
Hey, Really appreciate your analysis. I'm definitely an amateur in this arena - with bad hearing from too much load rock music too close to the speakers for decades. But by god, Haley's voice is so mesmerizing. So happy to realise even pro trained singer like you agree. Keep bringing us more reaction videos, THX!
This performance was done in one take because she wasn't feeling well that day. This performance was the main reason I decided to gift myself a front row seat at a live performance. WOW!!!
She was just tired from a long tour schedule. That day she sang lead in All About That Bass and backup in Style. ruclips.net/video/MskKSH1Kf4U/видео.htmlsi=UtDOz-SvxeVJP0iS
nice reaction daniel. this female vintage interpretation and character embodiment of this classic is absolutely stunning.. just because she is a beautiful woman versus the presubscribed concept of stalker dude of the original by radiohead does not mean she can not be rejected by someone or society as a whole for being her true self and the imperfections that come with that. maybe she is obsessive, jealous or just does not fit the expected submissive girlfriend, wife, etc narrative of that time. all this creates an internal tug of war and debate within herself of what do i need to change for someone (or society) to accept or love her (i.e. be special) vs her loving herself for being authentic (i.e. remain a weirdo). although the specific circumstances are unique for each individual, we have all been there at some point and why so many people can relate to this song. however, the true masterpiece of the extraordinary performance is really just how well haley reinhart creatively taps all those mixed and conflicting emotions of the lyrics though her expansive and incredible vocals of soft breathiness, cries, belts, growls and scats strategically combined with her movements and facial expressions that creates this crazy push and pull effect that brings all those emotions out of us in both painful and satisfactory ways. her performance is an emotional roller coaster ride with postmodern jukebox providing the theme park underneath her. it's almost like she goes through the 12-steps of rejection and self acceptance in 4 minutes and 55 seconds. it is amazing and will go down as one of the best performances of our time. 😎
I rely on suggestions from others because I don't listen to most radio stations anymore. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your reaction. I really appreciate singers that give you more than a melody, but are like telling a story with their voice,
The drummer in more recent videos is visible. Yes, it was just a running joke for a while. Next: Dream On w/ Morgan James, followed by All About that Bass- Haley/Mogan/Casey/Ariana on vocals. THEN- Haley & Mogan chilling, sitting on a couch singing Dear Prudence w/ just an acoustic guitar. Sitting and sounding like bosses isn't easy and they do it like it's Meh, ok here we go... Enjoy!
This was done in one take. Haley (Hey-lee)is one of the few vocalists today that’s comfortable performing live. To fully appreciate her blues, jazz abilities, her performance at Chess Records in Chicago, with just her dad on acoustic guitar. She sings raw versions of Can’t Find My Way Home and Don’t Know How To Love You.
lol, hi Daniel, just watched your reaction to Seven Nation Army a couple of hours ago and wondered if you would do Creep at some point, and here it is... Great reaction and analysis again, thanks a lot!
Omg your hands 😂 I dunno why but for some reason your kinetic arms and hands reminded me of Mandy Patinkin 😂❤ (this is a good thing haha) I love that you pointed out the smile on “whatever you want” affecting the vowel - plus this expression was such a perfect touch of irony (not sure if that’s the word I’m looking for, but you get it) 😁 Beautiful reaction and analysis for one of my favorite artists, thank you 😊
Another enjoyable reaction! I so wish that I could hear this masterpiece again for the first time... Very glad that I can at least see others have the experience!
PMJ doesn't just do 'big band' style, they did a brilliant cover of 'Mad world' with Haley and Puddle Pity Party that's basically vaudeville... and Haley also does a cover of No Doubt 'Don't Speak' that's a '60s style cover...
A really fun video to check out from her is she and her Dad playing at Chess Records in Chicago. They do an absolutely incredible cover of ‘Can’t find my way home’ and then play one of her own songs with some chatting about their influences in between. Maybe good for a two-parter🤷 Really enjoyed your reaction!
They started doing these in Scott’s basement with one camera so space was limited. A lot of these the drummer isn’t visible.n All of their performances are live to video.
I loved your reaction! That hands thing... you see people do this in football (soccer) when someone does something too hot to touch. I really enjoyed that you gave a body to that feeling we all get listening to this, it's like a rocket so massive that it lifts off and the whole earth rumbles. It moves slowly slowly up, so slowly that you can't really believe it's actually going to space, and then it does.
You should check out Haley Reinhart and Sascha Peres and his Orchestra performing Haley's original song "Don't Know How To Love You" recorded straight to vinyl. Another is Haley, Slash, and Myles Kennedy covering "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones.
I'd never heard they intentionally blocked the drummer. They just used to film in cramped locations where it was hard to fit everyone in frame. Later videos are much better about letting you see all the musicians.
Haley wasn't sick. She thought she might need vocal rest because she had participated in two other videos that day and they were on tour. Scott said he felt like they could do it in a single take so she agreed to give it a go.
@@lddulcimer Also because the day they recorded "Creep" & "All About That Bass" was PMJ's first day off after traveling and touring Europe for a week since Haley joined them in Berlin. In a recent interview, she said she thinks that she didn't feel 100% helped her pull out something extra for this performance.
You are in for a treat, prepare for perfection. When it comes to outstanding musicality what comes to my mind, and I hope you will listen to, is the Live at Blues Alley recording of Eva Cassidy performing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, also her rendition of Fields of Gold, and Autumn Leaves.
Yes! Completely different style than Haley, but Eva Cassidy has an incredible voice, at times light and clear and at times powerful and mind-blowing. You don't just hear her sing a song, you feel her sing a song. Blues in the Night and You've Changed are two other amazing songs, among many.
Blocking the drummer was never a gag. It was because in the early days, most of PMJ's videos were recorded in Scott Bradlee's living room. As he lived in apartments. Thus, his living rooms were tiny. Thus, they just didn't have enough room. It being a gag is nonsense some people started much later on.
love this ,glad too see you enjoy check out all about the bass, it was there first,,,,and please check out puddles pity party ignore the fact hes a clown ,,,,,small things with post modern juke box,, excellent all of puddles songs are so well done, his voice is so clean , one of my favorite singers
If you'd like some more PMJ artists, there's Casey Abrahams, i like "Stacy's Mom", he did, plus haley is in the background. Another is PMJ's Shoshana Bean "Tomorrow".
She did this in 1 take and she had a cold. Haley Reinhart and Morgan James do a duet of the Beatles song Dear Prudence and its just the 2 of them sitting on a couch with Morgans husband on guitar its amazing
It was one take but she didn't have a cold. Her voice was tired from touring and recording other videos that day, but she wasn't sick. Scott Bradlee tells the story of making this video: ruclips.net/video/MskKSH1Kf4U/видео.html
Apparently she was coming off of a cold in this performance, so she didn't want to do many takes... this was the first and only take (from what we've been told)
Hailey (Hail-E) is one of the most mesmerizing vocalists I've ever heard. This style is perfect for her voice. Beauty, seduction and the perfect voice. Let me suggest another vocalist I think you would appreciate... Simone Simons of the symphonic metal band Epica. For her pure voice, listen to the song Once Upon a Nightmare from their Omega Alive virtual concert.
Love your reactions & the comments. They're great!!!!! Some other ladies you should check out-Patsy Cline "Crazy, Walking After Midnight", Dolly Parton "I Will Always Love You, Coat of Many Colors", Pat Benatar "Promises In The Dark, Hell Is For Children, Wuthering Heights", Reba MacIntyre "Fancy, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia". Some gentlemen to check out-Kenny Rogers "Lady, The Gambler, Through the Years", Trace Atkins "Arlington, Just Fishin, Ladies Love Country Boys", Bob Seger "Turn The Page, Shakedown". Groups - Steelheart "I'll Never Let You Go, Can't Stop Me Loving You, Mama Don't You Cry, She's Gone (acoustic version), KISS "Reason To Live, I Was Made for Lovin You, Forever", Scorpions "Send Me An Angel, Rock You Like A Hurricane" Aerosmith "Dream On, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", Metallica "Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters". Just a few (lol) suggestions that hopefully you might pick a couple. I'd love to hear what you have to say about them!!!!
Glad to see how much you enjoyed this one. It really is captivating! 💯 I hope you will soon react to All About That Bass, PMJ w/Haley Reinhart / Morgan James/ Ariana Savalas / Casey Abrams. It's another perfect and fun rendition! 🔥 Hopefully that will take you to Dream On, PMJ and Morgan James! That small girl has an amazing voice! 🤯 Thanks for another great reaction!
Are you exhaling whippets or keyboard cleaner at the start of each video, or are you doing that in post prod? Every single video starts out like you've been breathing heavy air, and since sodium hexafluoride isn't super common for home usage, I'm left thinking its one of the other options. Its a bit off-putting (not in a good way). In general I enjoy the reactions and have been going thru the catalogue these past few days, that's just something I've picked up on.
The gain on my mic has been acting up these past couple weeks, causing very little clear sound to be produced and the video being too quiet. I've been compensating by audio editing the sound to make it a bit louder, but the breath is also louder, unfortunately. I've been gifted another used mic that'll hopefully work a bit better and be in videos soon. I apologize for the lackluster audio quality
@@goodeveningstories awesome! Audio is so important for creators & I imagine its tricky doing a whole production by yourself. Really do enjoy the reactions and the insights & looking forward to more. Was so happy to see this one come up; this may be my #1 female vocal performance of all time. Haley came in and literally "first-take"'d it like a BOSS
Stunning voice but I hate that the lyric has been censored. To hear the ‘F’ word sung beautifully would have been amazing so it’s over to other great vocal performers, such as Chinchilla, for that act of anti-radio friendly delivery. Also the dynamics of the original have been lost. Impressed by her, but not by the version.
Every time Haley sings “Creep” live, she sings “fncking special” . The decision to record it w/o the expletive was a wise business decision since it went viral and Scott’s arrangement is probably covered more than Radiohead’s, nowadays. I saw Haley perform Creep live in the UK, days after they recorded this video, days before it was released, and she sings “fncking special”. Fun Fact, you can tell if a live Haley creep performance was before or after the video was posted. After the posting, fans “whoop” & holler when she sings the swear. Before the video, few PMJ fans knew who she was and only sang it a handful of times before the video’s release. Search “Haley Reinhart creep Lyon “ to watch the first time she performed it, days after joining the tour, days before recording it, she sings the swear, the audience is stunned silent, bursting into applause at the end. That performance convinced Scott to do something he’d not done before, re-record a single he’d already covered ✌🏻
Music is subjective. As such I am Really burnt out on creep. I was never particularly a fan of it And so I maybe completely clueless about music. Because I'm a rocker metal head from way back I much prefer postmark jukebox dream on featuring Morgan James. Is my absolute most favorite cover Of any song. She has Elegance and power. Many people say it's the 1st time they actually understood the words to dream on. Please React to that. Pretty please. Voice Voice is also Voice is also voice stunning but just in a different way and I think you'll really love her interpretation and the arrangement Voice is also voice stunning but just in a different way and I think you'll really love her interpretation and the Voice is also voice stunning but just in a different way and I think you'll really love her interpretation and the arrangement Of the song. Once again The band matches what are compliments what she is singing. And you do get to see the drummer for about About 1314 seconds. I don't think it's done on purpose that you can't see him Because that typically happens in groups because the drummers all the way in the back and the singers are in the front. I know that you will really enjoy her voice. This was a very good reaction
she was sick with flu-like symptoms. They were on tour and Haley didn't want to record it that day/ Scott Bradley asked her just to try it. It was recorded in one take with her being under the weather! wow

I would highly recommend two other PMJ/Haley Reinhart pieces: All About The Bass and Mad World.
love this ,glad too see you enjoy check out all about the bass, it was there first,,,,and please check out puddles pity party ignore the fact hes a clown ,,,,,small things with post modern juke box,, excellent all of puddles songs are so well done, his voice is so clean ,
one of my favorite singers
Great reaction! Haley has been a favorite of mine since she was on AI. My suggestion for you is PMJ and Haley doing Don’t Speak.
Haley is amazing. Enjoy watching your enthusiastic reactions. 👍❤️🙂
If you'd like some more PMJ artists, there's Casey Abrahams, i like "Stacy's Mom", he did, plus haley is in the background. Another is PMJ's Shoshana Bean "Tomorrow".
Cant get enough PMJ with Haley? Gotta do their Dont Speak cover (No Doubt)
Of course she's special, but I'm very happy you mentioned the musicians...the arrangement in itself is incredible. PMJ is the sh*t.
Her song Shook is _effin amazing_.
@@techbutterflymaps9873seems to be a losing proposition. I guess it sounds more exciting when you embellish the story with a cold, flu or pneumonia.
Need a cigarette?? lol
Great job man, thanks.
Youve got to do 'i put a spell on you' by her the most viewed one its sooo good!
I would definitely like to uncover all the hidden mysteries and gems. Astute analysis my fellow man of culture.
Your neighbor is thinking you must be really constipated ..
It's so good it hurts 🥰
And it's a live one take 😂
Holey Smokes!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You would love Singer Gary Valenciano rendition of the SOng "Spain" from Chick Correa/Al Jarreau
Listen up people. Don't let him hear Ado until he's broken in
If you are now in love with Haley .... get in line buddy !
Apparently she was coming off of a cold in this performance, so she didn't want to do many takes... this was the first and only take (from what we've been told)
1 take!
Next Morgan James and PMJ Dream on Cover trust us in all the comments below you will be blown away
Please react to more PMJ. This was a fun one.
Do you have neighbours? What do they think you're doing?? 😂😂
I do have neighbors and they have their intense moments too so we all have an unspoken agreement to all leave each other alone xD
Loved your reaction with all the wonderful insights! ❤
lol...
Haley is the first way you pronounced it (Hay). One of her own songs is "Free" It has a retro vibe to it, it is one of my favorites of hers.
Am Idol suggested that she need to work on her diction, what idiots. Oh, also this was said to be one take after the All About the Bass, recording.
She is literally a siren a seductress i fell in love with her the first time hearing her
Yebba - My Mind
Next Post Modern Jukebox on your list should be “Dream On” by Morgan James. Didn’t you do Voice Play’s version of that already? ❤️🎶
The Joe Cocker of reviewers.
Glad to see how much you enjoyed this one. It really is captivating! 💯
I hope you will soon react to All About That Bass, PMJ w/Haley Reinhart / Morgan James/ Ariana Savalas / Casey Abrams. It's another perfect and fun rendition! 🔥
Hopefully that will take you to Dream On, PMJ and Morgan James! That small girl has an amazing voice! 🤯
Thanks for another great reaction!
Dude... you spent so much time waving your hands and closing your eyes that you missed half the performance. Try PAUSING. Good luck in the future.
Wait... wait, wait, wait, wait... professional opera singer --- and beatboxer? 🤔 How do you approach that on a resume?
@@dropbarracuda It's rare that I can ever first-take anything. That's awesome! I appreciate the kind sentiments too =)
Stunning voice but I hate that the lyric has been censored.
Gratis reaction ❤ please react Morgan James PMJ aerosmith civer Dream on,thiis is crazy. ❤ love from italy. Nel subs.
she was sick with flu-like symptoms. They were on tour and Haley didn't want to record it that day/ Scott Bradley asked her just to try it. It was recorded in one take with her being under the weather! wow
Stop propagating this nonsense of Haley being sick. She was the only singer who recorded 3 videos with PMJ that day.

She wasn’t sick with flu like symptoms - that’s just something that a few keep saying. Scott Bradlee explains in this video…she was tired.

Dude what's wrong with your hands
You paused 5 times before she could get the first line out. I can't watch this. Bye
