Thank you for the isopropyl alcohol idea! Much less toxic! Also, I appreciate reminding people to wear respirators! I've seen so many artist without! Love your work!
I was surprised the alcohol worked! I was thrilled because it is less toxic. Sadly tho I could not get the finish off without using Lacquer Thinner which is toxic!
Hi Pattio- I took some time off because I ran for a local public office. I am ready to get started now in the new year. (PS- I did get elected so it was worthwhile to take a break from youtube videos during the campaign!)
So satisfying Transformation!!!! That awful paint actually protected the veneer of the piece against mistreatment! You made it look brand new! Thanks so much for sharing and for the work of love you put on furniture!
Wow look amazing,,can you believe that someone painted that builtiful piece and covered up God's natural beauty,,I also restore I'm so happy that the true nature beauty of wood ,and the very skilled craftsman that made these pieces of art are coming back ,,so I thank you you do like o said amazing work and I most definitely will be telling others about your channel,!!!!!!
I have an almost antique bedroom set. It has 2 twin beds. The problem is the people that were cleaning out the house used shovels and broke the claws off the front legs of the chest of drawers. Can an identical foot be cut from a bed and replace the old leg? My dilemma is that the legs are all one piece, dresser is extremely heavy. I’m thinking some sort of dowel could be used or cut the foot off one of the beds to try and piece back together the existing foot. Meaning trying to cut it almost at an exact fit. My thoughts are what happens if dresser is scooted and new leg breaks off if I replace the piece that i cut like a puzzle and that breaks off. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Agreed. Just a waste of a beautiful piece. I’m just sitting down to watch. Don’t remember if I’ve watched before but I could watch these saved over and over!
Ive been watching you for awhile n I thought I had subscribed but apparently I didn’t so I’m a newbie. That piece turned out so pretty. I’m so happy that you new it needed to be put back to its original n even better. Your my kind of lady who enjoys doing this n I realize you do it for a profit. I do it cuz I love antiques. Any piece of furniture that has a story. I love many of your tricks of the trade. For example using a sponge to put on the finish ( poly acrylic). I’ve always love to learn more on putting on veneer. It’s to bad we didn’t get to see how held it with clothes pins. I would love to know what wood putty you use that will take a stain. All the ones I use you can always see the patch even with stain. Some times I use saw dust with glue to patch area. I apologize for such a long comment. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍
I love to refinish furniture but sadly I had to stop because I was diagnosed with COPD. Of course the fumes from the paint stripper, paint thinner, and dust are not good for me. I hope you learned something from my videos!
Hi Verena. There is not a way to know the exact paint that it was painted with. To some degree, if you see paint strokes you know it was done by a diyer so it was probably latex or chalk paint. Enamel is thinner and could have paint strokes if brushed on. I do not know what kinds of paint isopropyl alcohol removes. I just poured some on (as you saw in the video) and it came off! That is all that was important. I am pretty daring when it comes to refinishing furniture because I figure I have nothing to loose. I know a lot of my viewers tell me they are afraid of "ruining" a piece of furniture. When I get a piece it is usually destined for the landfill and if I can save it then I am successful. The best case scenario is seen in this video where I can restore it by staining it. The worst case scenario is to paint it. I hope this answers your? Thanks for watching!
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit you know what?…I’m gonna go with that approach myself. What’s the worst case scenario, right? I’ve gotten a couple of pieces that were left beside the dumpster of the apartment complex I live in, and that’s what I’m practicing on until I feel confident enough to tackle my own furniture. Like you said, I can always paint.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought that paint color wasn't so bad. Definite times it would have fit the decor of a room in my home on several occasions. I do like the natural wood effect. But sometimes it doesn't work with the decor. And better to paint and reuse than throw away.
Yes Julie in the right room this would have looked great but if you notice the finish/paint was in really bad shape with stuff spilled on it. I pictured this coming from a frat house for some reason :-) and blue was their school's color. I agree that if you do not have the time or skills to refinish a piece then by all means paint it rather than throw it away! As seen in this case, someday someone like me may find it and bring it back to it's original beauty! Thanks for watching!
We all have our own likes and dislikes. I love this stain. There is no red in it. It is a very contemporary color that goes with furniture you can buy today.
Currently, the darker stains are popular. You need only look at some of the websites of furniture manufactures so see what is trending in home decor. I always remember that I am refinishing it to SELL so my stain choices are based the fact that I want to sell the item quickly for the highest amount
I study wood working to learn more and advance my skills. I learned that if the original finish is lacquer then you can use lacquer thinner to remove it. I believe this goes back to before there were commercially available paint strippers. I usually go straight for the paint stripper and forget to even use lacquer thinner. I wanted to do something different with this piece so I tried the alcohol and when it did not remove the original finish, I tested it and found that it was lacquer. (BTW- to determine if a finish is a lacquer finish, you put a little lacquer thinner on it and if it becomes soft /dissolves then it is a lacquer finish. ) Therefore, keeping in step with trying a different method to remove a finish, I used lacquer thinner to remove the original finish. The most important question that no one has asked it.... Would I use rubbing alcohol and lacquer thinner again to remove a finish. The answer is NO! It took 3 times longer than if I had just used paint stripper. Thanks for watching Anna and thanks for the great ?
I wish you explained exactly what you are doing. I am very sight impaired and can't read all the words in your tutorials. You do an amazing job but I'm not sure what products you are using. It would just be easier to follow if it weren't asilent video
Hi Debbie. I literally show you screen shots of all products I use to refinish a piece so you will know exactly what I use. It is always frustrating for me when someone does not tell me what products they are using so that is why I am so picky about showing photos of all products. I also have a list of all products I use on my website. There is a link to my website in the video description. I will be adding closed captions on my future video so you can get more info by turning on the "CC" Of course, if it goes to fast to read, you can always simply pause the video (which is what I do sometimes when watching TV with CC on). Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately, you are one of very few viewers that have that opinion. Mose prefer show sounds. However, I will soon begin to add closed captions so you can turn on "CC" and get additional comments and info.
Turned out just lovely, lot of work great job, I miss you talking and the wording is distracting. I miss what your doing when I'm trying to read what your doing. And if someone said they didn't like your voice let them go some where else.
I think your restoration work on wooden furniture is superb. Beautiful piece. Good job!

I totally agree!
I miss your videos. I hope you are well.
Thanks for asking- I took a hiatus for personal reasons and am now ready to get started again! I have missed it.

I miss your narration. Beautiful restoration! Thank you!

Hi there hope you are well. I see no new projects and was wondering if everything was ok?
That looks like what we called Danish Modern from the 60s-70s and the stain looks spot on.
Great restoration.
Yes, I think Danish Modern is very similar to Mid Century Modern.
Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!

So satisfying Transformation!!!! That awful paint actually protected the veneer of the piece against mistreatment! You made it look brand new! Thanks so much for sharing and for the work of love you put on furniture!
I agree. The paint does protect it until someone like me comes along to "save" it and restore it.
This piece was desperate for help!! Thank goodness you answered its call for help!
Thank Chris!
Turned out beautiful!
Thank you Gladys!

Beautiful, that really is trash to treasure, that blue paint was horrendous
Thanks Linda!
Why in the world do people mess up a nice piece of furniture with blue paint, etc? Beautiful job
Perhaps because it is easier to paint than it is to strip it and refinish it? Thanks for watching!
Agreed. Just a waste of a beautiful piece. I’m just sitting down to watch. Don’t remember if I’ve watched before but I could watch these saved over and over!
Big difference from the blue 😊
Indeed! The blue was too bold. Now it looks like the MCM it always was!
Good outcome. It will be a nice piece with much utility. I would wire it with a charging station under the top
Great idea
Excelente trabalho. 👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Beautiful restoration and you did an amazing job restoring it as well!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Well done! Beautiful result on that nightstand! I also did refinish a night stand but is was not painted!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice 🌼

Me too! thanks for watching!
Alcohol works with water based paints. It is great for cleaning brushes that have dried acrylic paint in the ferrule.
A bit dark but superb workmanship! 👍
Thanks 👍
Do you wash the brushes after each use or due you throw them out? You do an incredible job by the way!
I wash them with Krud Kutter
Fine job my life dear :) A sweet little beauty:)
😊 thank you
Hola. Te queria preguntar si puedo ponerle Varathane Ultimate Water Bassed Polyurethane in Mate a los azulejos del baño ? Gracias
What is the veneer? Elm?
I am not certain the veneer but if I had to guess, I would guess Elm. Thanks for watching!
I hope all is well with you, you haven't posted a video in awhile.
Are you still restoring furniture? It looks like most your videos are over a year old. Just wondering if you have more recent videos somewhere.
I love to refinish furniture but sadly I had to stop because I was diagnosed with COPD. Of course the fumes from the paint stripper, paint thinner, and dust are not good for me. I hope you learned something from my videos!
How did you decide to use rubbing alcohol and lacquer thinner? What led you to that decision over stripper? Inquiring minds want to know!
I’m wondering also. How do you know what it was painted with?
