Raising Garage Door Tracks || Fixing Improperly Installed Garage Doors

- One of the biggest issues I have in my garage is the way the garage doors were installed when the house was built. The garage door tracks are at a downward angle because they were mounted to a support beam that divides the ceiling in half, instead of the ceiling. This was clearly done to provide enough space to mount the chain drive openers for the doors. I disliked the way the doors had been installed and how low the doors and openers hung because of this bad installation method. I decided to remove the openers and raise the tracks of the door by installing them correctly onto the ceiling. This resulted in the back end of the doors being raised 12 inches and the tracks to finally be in proper alignment, allowing for the door to open smoothly.

Why would you use a 2x4 most people just put the angle iron right to the ceiling It has multiple holes
The angle irons had initially be installed into the center support beam that runs through the room. But when I removed them and went to transfer them to the ceiling there were no studs directly in line with the the garage door rails. Yes I could have still made it work and the angle irons would have borne the weight. I preferred the idea of using a piece of wood to hit multiple joists in order to spread the load of the door and allow the angle irons to stay in line with the garage door rails.
As a door installer those were installed incorrectly from the beginning, the installer should have done what you did the first time.
Thank you! I'm not a pro and I know I make mistakes, I'm by no means perfect. But this installation really pisses me off. I think the second owners had this done and I know they weren't DIY people. So if they hired a "professional" to do this its an insult to anyone who is an actual pro and doing good work. Its stuff like this that makes me do DIY, if I wanted things done wrong I can make the mistakes and screw things up myself for free.
@@thediygrunt just a fyi the tracks should be a little higher in the back so that the door keeps pressure on the cables pushing down so that they don’t get slack and get crossed up on the drum
So instead of having the tracks at 90 degrees you want them with like a 5 degree slope to the ceiling to avoid causing cable issues?

Lol but, I really wanted to get a better visual since it sounded cool! Thanks! Btw my garage door is set bit too low and too high! The chain in the center runs through a deep gauge in the ceiling! Insulation falls out you’d hate it!!! 😂
I would install a jack shaft opener on both doors
That is the goal, but I needed to raise the doors to the ceiling before doing so since they looked horrible installed the way they were. Maybe later this year I will get a shaft opener for at least one door.
