Thank you. I needed this tutorial as I am lubricating my door today.
Thank you again.
I have the exact garage door opener. I followed all your instructions and am so happy I didn't hire a specialist. My two quotes were over $130.00. Thank you for the great explanations of all the moving parts.
This worked. Thank you. Your video was well explained. Only took me 7 minutes to do my single car garage door.
If you have sealed bearings, there is no need to lubricate anything on the cable pulley area. The cable only lays on the perimeter of the pulley; there is no friction. Also, the inside of the pulley is bolted to the shaft and therefore the pulley moves with the shaft, creating no friction there either.
You did a better job than what I've seen on other videos. You actually took the camera to a couple spots that I wasn't quite sure of. Thank you for your video
Most helpful of several such vids. I like that you didn't bother to use a straw for spraying (since my Blaster can didn't come with one). The main culprit seemed to be the torsion spring (9:17), which I sprayed top, front & bottom. Had to open & close door several times to distribute silicone & have any drops go on floor before I drove back in. Squeak gone!
Glad it helped out. Thanks for watching. It's funny how these things get gradually louder and louder over the seasons until you finally say...Dang! That's gotta get lubed!!
Thanks for your excellent video! After watching several other videos I depended on yours to get the job done. Great detail and illustrations.
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent video. Thank you for your thoroughness and all the close-ups!
An excellent tutorial! I am going to do this tomorrow. Thank you.
You did a perfect job I use the same stuff not a lot of people understand what to use soo good job
Thanks Zack!
Well explained. Particularly helpful: The instruction for lubricating the opener's trolley rail and control-arm pivots, which I was specifically looking for and hadn't found elsewhere I had checked.
Good video. I often see lots of misinformation around this but this is all good info
Very good video and I appreciate the close up views. Also, thanks for including info about the belt drive; very helpful. Others mostly discuss the chain drives.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing. That helps my little channel grow.
Thanks for posting!
Thank you for this video!
Love this video. So useful
Awesome video. I would never have thought to grease the spring.
Mine door was "popping" and sticking. Lubed the spring and now it works like butter. I did some reading and I guess we're supposed to lubricate the tension spring at least once a year.
Great vid! I have the same model! Very helpful. I had a garage door specialist come by recently and he said just use reg. WD40. LOL He replaced the springs
It's so cool to find a video that's almost exactly my same garage door setup, belt, torsion springs, everything! Thanks!
Very good video!
So helpful👍
Very good thank you!
Thank you sir!
Thank you sir.
Thank you.
Thanks!
Very well done. I'm heading out to the garage now. Thanks for posting this.
Another video showed greasing the underside of the trolley rail. I didn't agree with that, and moved along to this video, and I agree the top of the rail is what needs lubricated. I also agree with the instructions on the door itself, so it must be a good video. 👍
Thank you for your video. I was using WD-40 and not getting the results I was expecting plus I was missing areas that needed lubricant. So I followed your instructions and all is good.
That's because WD-40 is not a lubricant it's a rust inhibitor and it states it on the can that this product is not a lubricant and should not be used as a lubricant!
The one of the three he puts aside is the one brand that most garage door contractors use, 😂
Hi, I enjoyed the video. I have a question: Would PTFE Lube (North Woods Tuf Gel) be okay for the hinges?
WD-40 is a water disperser, it moves water from areas it’s sprayed. Hence WD.
White lithium is the way to go on garage doors.
Thank you for making this. For years my dad used to grease the tracks. Now I realize he was doing it all wrong. But back then I don't think you could just go but silicon or lithium based oils. Every thing changes.
I always use to be that guy that used wd40 on my garage doors because I did not know any better my garage door would be so dam loud I would never be able to hide coming in from a late night from hanging out with the guys from the wife because the garage door would be so loud it would wake up the kids and her and they sleep upstairs lol
Use Lubriplate low temp grease fir screw drive if your garage is not heated ..
I got 14 oz fir small grease gun off e bay fir $12 del ...
Have you replaced your roller with Nylon?
The cable drums are fixed onto the shaft with a bolt. They do not turn individually.
The pulley doesn't get lubed but the bearing plate behind the pulley does. You'll need a straw on the can to make it work by jamming it into bearing past the seal.
I have a chain drive. Do I use the blaster on the whole chain. Do I clean first with WD 40? It is really dirty as I had construction sawing in the garage.
wd40 is a mild solvent with lube in it. yes you can use wd40 to soften and loosen old dirt and grime then wipe away. lube again after
Thank you. I was told not to lubricate the pulley. Hmmm
Is that an Element skate board hat!?!?!
thanks, i am more disconnecting electric to the door prior to cleaning
do not lub the gap between the cable wheels & the torsion shift. they are supposed to be rigid with shaft.
The cable pulleys are locked to the shaft with set screws. Non moving parts. Don't lube.
I just did exactly what you did TWICE and my door is still loud…
lol you realize the pulley rotates with the shaft
THERE IS NO NEED TO PUT LUBE ON NON MOVING PARTS IE WHERE SHAFT GOES INTO THE CABLE DRUM.....
Rails trolleys and connecting arms don't help me. I wish you could have got the camera up closer because I'm not sure what you were doing up there.
Oh, how on earth do you have so little in your garage? Must have a shop area or separate shop for all the important garage belongings.
LOL. If only! I did move a lot of stuff for the filming. My goal is organization....but that will have to wait until we're an empty nest I fear.
Thanks no. I want mine squeaky so I know people coming & going.
LOL
WD40 on the chain isn't the best option. Like you mentioned WD40 can actually de-grease which is harmful. Use chain lube or oil on the chain for best results. Also, the bottom of the rail should be greased as it was when installed.
Don’t use wd40 the blue one i

You never have to worry if you just prop the door up with a two by four. This works if you don’t mind a little snow or rain getting into the garage and maybe an occasional critter. This works if you live remotely and don’t like garage door maintenance. Skunks and raccoons need a place to live too you know!😇
Actually the track should be waxed
There are a few mistakes in video, WD 40 does not lubricate anything. The pulleys are tight on the shaft, do NOT lubricate. Use spray lithium grease. Not silicone or WD 40.
That quicktime music is torture.
What!?? I Looooove it!
Hey quicktime music............sometimes life is tough!, you will be OK
Really !!! You wasted your time complaining about the music? Did you forget to take your medicine?
I thought the Charlie Chaplin parts of the video were funny.... nice!!
Ragtime music

You're wasting your time, lube and rags by wiping the excess lube, spray and go to the next. Life is too short.
Audio is so poor I stopped viewing.
You never use WD-40 as a lubricant it even states it on the can that this product is not a lubricant. WD-40 is a rust inhibitor it has an acid in it to eat up rust so it causes things to break loose easy. WD-40 will eat the surface of metal and cause more rust to occur and more squeaking in the long run. People make the mistake of spraying their door hinges with WD-40 and sure takes away the squeaky noise but it also makes it worse in the long run. So never use WD-40 as a lubricant and just like I said it states it on the can that this product is not a lubricant and should not be used as a lubricant. You got that Jack?
