Very helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
Thx I needed to change my garage door strips and your video was very helpful
I'm glad it helped and thanks for watching Malik.
hello, great demonstration. I wish you had showed what kind of weather stripping this is. I need to do my garage very soon. Thank you.
There are some product links in the video description if you want to see what I used.
I honestly thi k I can tackle this project based on your video. I noticed mine were cracked and looked old
I’m sure you will do just fine. I wish you the best.
Watched your video and felt confident to tackle the job.
I went out to closely examine my set up...
My garage has a decorative stucco design framing the garage; not visibke wood. 🤦 🤷 (???)
Great video. But I have one question. On the vertical trim. How far is the gap do you need from the garage door to the seal to prevent hitting or too large of spacing?
Thanks! I just put my strips up against the door with light pressure from the ground to the top with the door closed. That way it has a good seal from top to bottom with the door closed. My door functions without any issues using this method.
I was wondering if I could put this on the inside of my door frame to help with a storm door that doesn't fit evenly when it shuts. To help with any air that comes in where it doesn't fit tight enough.
Thanks for the video! Question, at about the 1:09 mark when you're peeling away the old seal you can see black strips on the door sections. What is that? I feel like that probably helps the seal and want to add it to my door as well but not sure what to look for.
The black strips you see behind the rotten door seal a 1:09 are just the edges of the garage door panels. That is the part of the door that the garage door weather stripping seals against.
Do they sell an 18' long trim for the top of the door or would I need to install two pieces?
Hope we have a winter this year, last year we only got half our precip a measley 3 inches in reno. California is so freaking dry, over 4 million acres have burned this summer.😭
Me too but I'm not looking forward to driving in the snow with all the other folks out there. Luckily I don't have to do much driving unless I want to. 😀
PVC poly headed trim nails would leave a nice finish on the weather strip, stainless steel ones would be even better.
That's a great suggestion! Thank you!
Nice video. Did you you aluminum or stainless steel nails to avoid rust stains?
Thanks Richard. That's a good question but I don't know for sure. I just used the nails that came out of the old strip I removed. We don't get much moisture where we live so I don't expect any rust stains for quite some time.
I'd like to know how to cut the bottom - whether you cut the side pieces of the bottom rubber seal under the door. I have a conflict between the side piece flaps and the rubber seal on the bottom of the door.
I didn't have to cut any part of the bottom seal on my door.
Great Video! Thanks for the Tips!!!!!
Can you post a link of where you purchase the weather stripper. I have search Home depot and Lowes & I cant locate it.
Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Dave! Here is a link to the weather strips I purchased at Lowes. They were back by the garage door items.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thank you. Much appreciated!!!
You are welcome, have fun with your project!
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I bought my pieces at Home Depot.
Typically how long do these last after installation depending on the climates.. I live in Nevada.. No snow not much rain but hot as hell in the summers
I don't really know how long they last but the ones I replaced were 11 years old. I'm in Colorado and it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter here.
I have four doors; two need at 10' top seal, one needs 12' and one needs 16'. I also need 14' side seals on one door. The longest pieces I can find are 9'. Where do you find longer pieces?
Good question Scott but I don't know the answer. Maybe use two for the longer required lengths?
I read that the PVC weatherstripping shrinks and expands depending on the season. Have you had any of these issues with your old or new stripping?
I haven't experienced any problems with the new weather stripping I installed.
Thank you very much! But where I can get these Weather Stripping?
They carry them at most hardware stores. I found mine at Lowes.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thank you again!
Go Lefties!
👍🏻
Hi wana sealed bottom of my 2 car garage door. How would I do that without opening door at all? Door is messed up and do t wanna try to open it.
I don't know how you would do that without opening the door.
I noticed that you never replaced the wooden framing pieces that were initially removed to allow access/removal of the old weaherstripping. Can you talk about that?
I don't know what "wooden framing pieces" you are asking about. The white frame with the rubber seal is the new weather stripping. Hope this helps.
Good video, I’m trying to find this product. Do you have a product link? Thanks in advance
I purchased mine at my local Lowe's. Here is a link of some I found on Amazon but they were much cheaper at Lowe's.

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Thank you I checked my local hardware stores. Lowe's is the only one that carries it. Hoping to do it before the snow flies soon :(
I wish you the best with your project!
Do you need to caulk the seam at all or just leave it?
That is up to you. I did not caulk the seam on mine.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 sounds good. Thanks for the reply!
You're welcome Mr Hockey!
I have noticed that they get installed with the sides overlapping the top seal. Do you know the reason for this? It just feels wrong to me because with siding, roofs etc. Everything gets lapped from the bottom up.
I don't know for sure but my guess would be so that when the door closes it pushes against the top seal and won't tear the edges of the side seals.
If the door pushes against the entire top seal, it doesn’t effect the sides much at all. If the door were to push against the side seals first, it would hold the top seal out from the door. Hope it makes sense.
Isnt the 45 on the plastic flap backwards?
I believe it is cut correctly so it fits properly with the upper strip.
South Paw! 😂IKR
Where did you purchase the weather seal? Every place I look it's the wrong type and very expensive.
I purchased mine at my local Lowe’s.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I'm an idiot. You stated that in your video. Sorry about that.
Ha Ha no problem Jake. I wish you the best with your project.
Where to buy those garage weather seals ?
I bought mine at my local Lowe's but Amazon sells them as well.

Why doesn't the weatherstrip touch the door on the right side ?
Would Brad nails work?
I don’t know how well they would hold over time without a head on the nail. My garage opening sees significant temp changes through the year.
I'm subscribing just because you are so handsome...;-)
Marty,
Thanks for subbing!
I don’t get why cut it at 45deg. Tho
My understanding is the 45 degree angle gives a better fit where it meets with the top weather strip.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 that was question also. Great video
Wait what? You can't nail on your left with your left?😂
Great video!
Thanks!
