Contemporary Marching Band - Grade 3-4
Classic rock sounds from a classic band! Bon Jovi's monster hit from the '80s comes alive in this powerful chart that builds with intensity from beginning to end. The final chorus and key change really kicks it into high gear. Let it roar!

*silently hopes my band teachers will pick this for our concert*
ikr
TomatoOtakuAru playing this freshman year in high school
rlly? we do dis in middle school
We're doing this for the Tulip Time parade this year. #7thGradeEuphoniums
TomatoOtakuAru Concert? This piece is for marching band lol
My band played this my senior year when I was drum major, I would always get one of the other majors to conduct so I can sing to this
I wish my band was cool enough to play this
Then00bhunt3r when I get my degree I'm going to have my band do this in the stands but that's about 6 years from now
Crazy4Redstones Minecraft and Redstone YOU WANNA BE A BAND DIRECTOR TOO????!?!?!?!!???
Lol me too, but 3 trumpets can't play well, so we have a bad band... BTW this is a band out of 70 kids...
I played this in band i love the song but as a trombone player this isn't really a trombonesong
Clarinet here and it sounds great on it ❤
I loved playing this song. I always looked forward to the key change. Everyone would stand up and sing along when we played this.
It’s interesting on guitar as well
Anybody just ever play along while listening to this
with all their songs :)
Sometimes
Last Onix on drumpad yes
Godzilla Gaming yeah I play along to a lot of these band arrangements (snare). It really helps with sight reading
I play snare and trumpet on this.... helpin me out a lot
Whenever they say living on a prayer I thought of the whole band screaming SQUIDARD ON A CHAIR. My band needs to do this.
Gypsyhorselover 11 Our band is mainly made up of meme lords, so I could see them doing that.
The poor clarinet players (I’ll take condolences now)
if my pep band got this song, you bet that everyone would legit stop playing and shout SQUIDWARD ON A CHAIR and tbh i don't know if my director would laugh or yell at us XD
@@acetraineraster5171 probably both?
My marching band just got this song and I can’t wait for the chaos at band camp. We will absolutely be screaming SQUIDWARD ON A CHAAIIIR.
Band Director: Man, this is gonna be amazing.
Trumpet 1: **coughs**
Piccolos in third octave: *sobbing in corner*
Wdym trumpet part is easy
@@Twrench5 hah
Tyler Wrench lol nah ur right, first isn’t that hard compared to other pieces.
Exactly Timmy go play the frozen trumpet cover lmao
My school played this song for marching season last year and it was so fun. People started singing along and dancing including the marching band judges. It was the best song to end my 8th grade marching year.
We did this as our closer last year.
I played this arrangement on tuba in a community band; blasting that bass line was EPIC.
It gave me chills all the way down my spine, especially after the key change. Absolutely love it!
I love this song, it was originally written for the Notre Dame Band, but now it's being played by everyone. Can't get enough of Bon Jovi.
One of the best marching arrangements I've ever heard. My band director needs to step up his game
the key change.. i have only tears as a description. c':
+MadisonBrianne same XD
OH WHERE HALF WAY THERE OOOHHHOOOOHH
CRUSTY KRAB'S UNFAIR!
i will always think of this everytime i hear this song
OHHHHHHH WE'RE HALFWAY THERE. OHHHHHHHHHHH
BEATING ON A SNAREEEE
Th3Machin3 no, trust me, you won’t.
Javi 198 was gonna do that
SQUIDWARD IN A CHAIR
We played as part of our senior show during marching season. It was so much fun to play but that high A flat and high G flat for the flute were a pain in the ass to hit.
+Kitty Larson truth right there
+Kitty Larson We played this last season as our middle school band show
Oh those are the worst
This is my first piece to conduct as a drum major and I'm way more than excited
i cannot get over the horn rips
I mostly play percussion now but when I played trumpet I remember some notes literally busting my lips into looking like two red chili’s under my nose. Oh and don’t forget that red circle in the middle of the mouth as well imprinted by that weapon of brass destruction. But when you pull it off it sounds really cool! Pains for the gains!
I love this bassline so much for some reason.
Nothing beats the live performance I got to see after my cousin’s march out at Wagga. They actually did the chorus vocally. Damn, that sounded cool.
1:48 this is what I love the most from the french horn, Glissandos sound amazing
"Oh we're halfway there take my hand we'll make it I swear!"
*Coronavirus alert* don't take his hand!
Probably one of the best mellophone songs I've heard.
Love this arrangement.
We’re playing this for our band and it is fun af
the flutes have ascended to heaven with their notes and now you can’t hear them
I've been wanting our marching band to play this
Remembering back to freshman year
Song: is in Db
Publisher: nah man let's make the key sig Ab and just add flats to all the Gs.
the song isn't in Db. it's in G major, or E minor, until the 3/4 measure when it transitions into a different key
@@andylopez0731 I think that's the original recording's key. For this version, the original key is B-Flat Minor; they just forgot to put a G-Flat as part of the key signature. When they go up to C-Minor, they do the same thing with the A-Flats. Adding insult to injury, they forgot to add G-Flats to their arrangement of "Pour Some Sugar on Me," from Def Leppard's _Hysteria_ album.
My band, the Seabreeze Marching Band, is playing this as a stand tune and I LOVE it! #baritones
I get to play this at our game and I’m so excited!!!
We are playing this in marching band this year, its pretty epic
We played this arrangement along with Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) and Rock N Roll All Nite for my second year! It rocked.
We played this my 2nd year as well. Our show was rock n' roll legends. We had this song, beat it by MJ and don't stop believing by journey. There was another but I can't remember what it was.
This is awesome for marching band
We have to do this for our show:
You Give Love A Bad Name
Wanted Dead or Alive
Living on a Prayer
Walter Walter were you the Bon Jovi band at Tupelo????
Thats our show this year
@@SethCarter1 Holtville in Alabama
im doing those for my show this year
@@hylianhero1921 omg same
I love this song
SQUIDWARD ON A CHAIR!!!!!
Like if you understand.
My band director is obsessed with saying that lmao, we played that just so he could sing that
Squidward on a chair
This will be perfect for my drum major audition piece!! It corresponds with our theme next year! FANTABULOUS!!
How was it?! 0:28
THIS WAS AWESOME!!!
I am a freshman and I got stuck with the 1st trumpet part. You wouldn't know how red my face got after playing this.
Was it because of the High B flat/ A Sharp lol
I'm a freshman on first two and this song is definitely a challenge but it's fun to play!
we get to play this, you give love a bad name and wanted dead or alive for our halftime shows and movements OMG SO EXCITED
I remember playing this my freshman year, I played baritone and low brass sits right in front of the percussion, at 50 they liked to blew my eardrums out, especially the snares,I couldn't hear the trumpets in front of me. I couldn't hear myself play at all.
this is making me miss marching season a lot, but I hated the drill for this
Preforming this tomorrow for marching band!
ohhhhhh were half way there ohhhhh livin on a prayer take my hand we'll make it I swear ohhhhh livin on a prayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song. The melody is accurate and the low brass actually get a solo!! Kinda...
hell no, trumpet parts on this look hella scary, "curles up in ball" rip our 3 trumpets
It's not so bad :)
Jessica is right this isnt so bad. There are pieces of music with way worse parts.
@@SwMedic10 I've played worse try viva la vida up an octave
Not even the best trumpet in my class can withstand the entirety of this song.
Haha get rekt we have 4 trumpets!
I'm one of them. I'm not sad.
I played this in jazz band (i’m in 6th grade btw”
I wish my band was playing this😭
Mine is currently playing this song! I love it!
Me and my friends play this all the time no matter where we are
the only song in the set that has a rhythm that the flutes can actually play correctly
DAORA DEMAIS
My band needs to do this!
I love that my band director took into account that I am not able to march because of the gunk in my lungs and that i'm foing physical therapy for my ankle so he put me on piano for half time and i love it
my band ridge view high school got invited to Ireland this year for the saint patties day parade and we played this exact version
This was my first marching band piece I got paid to play, and my first ever diagram march (on a Basketball Court).
#JungleRumbleMegaBand #PerthWildcats #TeamContrabassBugle
I'm playing quads for the first time with this song. Can't wait to march with them and kill my back :,)
Sensacional
we're playing this for our 8th and 7th combined band
same, for our spring concert
tina timmerman When I was in college we could barely play this. I think that's great a middle school band can do this but we couldn't.
I second and third trumpet it is so hard for me not to play first part
The first song I've seen where tubas kinda have their own solo with bari sax throughout most of the song
Travis Watier #TeamBariSax
Paul Murtha is our theme for marching band this year, im a sousaphonist... wish me luck.
DUDE THIS IS RAD
Played this in 7 grade band we won the marching band compitition fun peice took for ever to get down.
Afton high school band is learning how to play it and they sound pretty awesome
I'M A BAND LOVER
I love the Mellophone part for this
its triggering how trombones never get the melodies in any of these songs but this one helps me feel better
if you march to "I Want it that Way" by the backstreet boys, you have it 95% of the song.
When the chorus sang this i heard so many people yell SQUIDWARD ON A CHAIR i could not stop laughing
Nice arrangement
We play this alot in the band room
We have pep assembly today and this is what we are playing as we’ll as enter sandman
Me and the boys during warm up
Definitely want to play trumpet 2 for this
É música é linda , eu toco trompete toquei né um show de escola foi épico
My band teacher did say once that she wished she was Bon Jovi after we broke out into song with Livin’ on a Prayer… **crosses fingers we play this**
when i was in marching band in high school we played this and you give you love a bad name
this would be great if the trumpets in our band were actually...good.
We had this in our last marching show, sadly were a small band with 5 trumpets, 2 new freshmen from a band with a bad band director and one of them played trombone all three years. Anyways we could only hear all their parts at our last show.
Nothing says hard rock like marching band
Alto sax and trombone notes are mostly in the same place on the ledger lines weird
i actually just played this 2017-2018 school year for marching and got all 1s at festival
Whole Band: Oh we're halfway there Ohhhh Living on a Prayer Me: SQUIDWARD ON A CHAIR over ENTIRE BAND
Inside joke for our band…. Our teacher told us to put away chairs and stands but he said stairs and chands now we say that always
I would agree with u @kittylarson because I play flute and I can already hit the high G when I'm already in 6th grade ugh such a pain but I got it and I can play it
I guess the question is, how good was your tone?
It was good because my teacher had a tuner and when I first played it it was straight in the middle along with my other ones
+Olivia Moore that's pitch. Tone is how the note sounds
Very very good
trumpets thoooo
Next year, if our teacher decides not to have a band, I’ll have to organize one. I will attempt to at least.
I conduct this song, I'm always up there dancing and lip syncing and studf
All my brain goes to is “squidward on a chair”
I have to memories this entire song in two weeks because my band is playin at a football game and we can’t bring our music 😔
I’m playing this song in jazz band and I’m in 7th grade
Pretty great
1.25x speed sounds more like a true marching band arrangement
I am using this piece for drum major tryouts and needed to know how many cues are in this entire song
+Tyler That's a personal decision you're going to have to make for yourself. Some people only cue important entrances and focus on dynamic form and emotional interpretation. Some people will stick with a cue and subdivide the line with the players for a few bars, especially in measures with triplet or syncopated rhytms.
+oncemoreuntothebreach. ok thanks for replying to me
Tyler
For this piece, I would recommend cuing the percussion at the beginning then quickly prepping for the chord at measure 2 before cuing the crescendos. Maybe cue the 8ths at measure 9, and the chord at measure 14. Definitely move body to cue a different section of the band as they come in at 18. Cue the cutoff and big entrance at 34. Maybe the rips and runs from the horns in this section. Cue the chords and maybe the rips leading up to 46. 59 is the same as 34 but in a different key, so maybe do something visually to reflect this change. Cue the hell out of those hits in the last 3 bars. Though cues are a very detailed technical thing, the best thing for an audition would be work on developing a confident presence in front of the band.
As the field judges would say, hope my comments have been helpful and good luck.
My school played this
Also I been playing baritone for 2 years already:D
como fasso pra conseguir essa partitura completa em pdd
Onde consigo esse arranjo???
Darn. The main parts mostly pass horns up. :(
Although those rips and glisses sounded hella sharp.
Nice vid
Did they have this as a stand tune? Please tell me they didn't.
