  • This is a quick breakdown of how to R&R the decoupler/drive pulley for the serpentine belt on the Volvo 3.2L engine. This one is from a 2011 XC90. See the rest of the video here:

Ryan R. Thank you for this video. Yours is the ONLY video I've found on RUclips that had the thread direction of the bolt! Every video out there shows clockwise to remove. When I did this it felt like the bolt tightened so I immediately stopped to avoid breaking anything. I had a strong feeling it was lefty loosey & your video confirmed it. I'm working on my wife's 2014 XC60 T6 with the 3.2L engine. Other than a few differences in location placement of a few components it pretty much looks like your 2011 XC90 engine. Our car only has 49,000 miles on it & this part has failed. I'm replacing all the serpentine belt components with a refresh kit I bought from FCP. Thanks again for the informative video...much appreciated!!

Thanks a lot for this video. I managed to remove the bolt that holds the crankshaft pulley, but I can't get the actual pulley out. It seems to stuck on the shaft. Do you have any suggestions or can recommend a special tool that fit XC90 model for this job? Thanks!

Is there a seal behind this pulley you also replaced? Thanks!

There is a seal, but no reason to replace it for this job. That seal is tricky to replace and requires a fairly special tool from Volvo to get the new seal in.
