Thanks Charles. This video was a real eye-opener for me. I’ve been learning how to play for a while (I’m not very focused), and have been coping songs and trying to improve my technique. I still had no idea on how to approach creating bass lines and understanding how to implement everything in a cohesive and meaningful way. With only a few clear and easy to understand tips you have conveyed an incredible amount of information. I can feel my lethargic brain fizzing with activity and excitement as the new musical knowledge begins to unfold.

Hello, I don't want you to take this comment as a negative criticism, it's just an observation.
You're an incredible musician, not just a good bass player, period. It's understood. But you're also creative.
I think, and this is a personal opinion, that what your audience wants from you is not to "sound professional", but rather to learn to be creative. In my experience, this means learning to listen to music better. Understanding rhythm and harmony, and finding your place between the two. So, I think you should follow this path, as you are. Congrats,

I loved tip #5! I notice when you slap, there wasn't a ton of "strings hitting fretboard" sounds. I'm playing on an acoustic bass and I get soo much string hitting fretboard, not sure if its my technique (I'm still pretty new to bass) or just the way acoustic basses are setup. Any input?

For tip 1: it doesnt always have to be the kick!! In most cases itll be the kick and this is a vid for beginners but there are some cases where the hi hat, snare, ride, etc. Can be leading the rhythm. So focus on ehats leading the rhyth!

What do you do when the drum player's kick is all over the place? I play with a few drummers in our church who do not use a set pattern on the kick, it seems as if they just hit it randomly.
I just pick a pattern and play that because following these drummers seems impossible to me as an amateur. 😵‍💫
