Great tips man. Used to play six string piccolo bass, joined a band a month ago and got myself a short scale Harley benton (small hands) and now I exclusively play bass. I've followed you for a while now and you are the reason for my love of bass and why I've almost made more progress with bass than I have with guitar in two years - its just so damn fun. We're doing a cover of cry of achilles for our long term project and man... that's gonna be hard and almost too much fun to handle

Thanks Charles. This video was a real eye-opener for me. I’ve been learning how to play for a while (I’m not very focused), and have been coping songs and trying to improve my technique. I still had no idea on how to approach creating bass lines and understanding how to implement everything in a cohesive and meaningful way. With only a few clear and easy to understand tips you have conveyed an incredible amount of information. I can feel my lethargic brain fizzing with activity and excitement as the new musical knowledge begins to unfold.

Hello, I don't want you to take this comment as a negative criticism, it's just an observation.
You're an incredible musician, not just a good bass player, period. It's understood. But you're also creative.
I think, and this is a personal opinion, that what your audience wants from you is not to "sound professional", but rather to learn to be creative. In my experience, this means learning to listen to music better. Understanding rhythm and harmony, and finding your place between the two. So, I think you should follow this path, as you are. Congrats,

Hey Charles, hopefully you're able to see this post. So I'm using a 6 string multiscale parallel fret bass with super light gauge strings. And to put it shortly, I'm feeling the difference between the higher strings and lower strings. What type of strings do you use for your tapping?

For tip 1: it doesnt always have to be the kick!! In most cases itll be the kick and this is a vid for beginners but there are some cases where the hi hat, snare, ride, etc. Can be leading the rhythm. So focus on ehats leading the rhyth!

It might be a challenge to create bass parts, and it would be a gas to see what you come up with. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE? Start with Tooth and Claw
