Hair grease on my locs made it thicker. Oils was drying out my scalp and hair. Hair grease worked well as a kid and it still does it job well. The reason why I switched from hair grease to oil is because everyone was talking about it and was recommending everyone to use it. I've been using nature blessings hair grease (scalp only) which reminds me of Dax hair grease and I haven't had a problem with buildup. However I don't put anything but water, aloe juice or rosewater on my locs.
I had issues with build up in my first set of locs when I washed with Dr. Bonner's and when I applied oils directly to my scalp and on my locs. With my current set I use the Neutrogena maybe once a month and Alaffia black soap regularly. I use a spray bottle with water and maybe a table spoon of oil. No build up problems this time around so far and I'm in year 2. Using less on my locs seems to make the difference.
Hey Sis! I love your loc videos. You inspired me to start my second set of locs a year ago. I used Nature’s Blessing on my first set of locs and had mad build up. I have known others who used Jamaican black castor oil on the scalp only and it caused build up in their locs. Whatever we use on the scalp or to retwist can eventually becomes a part of the loc (build up) if the product is not water soluble and or hard to wash out of locs. Please keep the awesome videos coming!
I’ve used nature’s blessings for 2 1/2 years with no problem but yesterday I washed my hair and it took forever to get shampoo out of new growth and it scared me so I retwisted with only water. And I will be doing a acv rinse sometimes before fall.
I am 9 years locked and ever since I started dying my locs I notice that they are dry no matter what I do! Seriously considering using grease. It definitely worked back in the day so maybe it’s time to go back to basics.
Hi Desire beautiful hair!!Just a tip consider the use of the greese because it probably cause build up over time as the locked hair grows out, also you can try using doing a baking soda, apple cider hair soak when you wash your hair.....because of the components in the grease it may smooth and shine the hair when retwisting but it can be left in the hair even after washing.
So you think the build up is from when you used to use the Jamaican Lime Mango gel because I know that does cause build up. I just wondered since it is so far down in your locs.
Do you think it may be shampoo build up from inside the loc...I'm dealing with that myself. I find that sometimes I don't rinse it out as much as I think I have
You’re hat is too cute! I went back to using hair grease to do a retwist for the first time since having my locks and never again lol. My the product from the grease melted towards my scalp and it left it inflamed, dry, and flaky. The grease worked great just on my hair when I was a loose natural esp for my bomb twist outs, but to retwist its a no for me.

Everything you put on your scalp runs down your hair. Even your own sebum (which is mad thick) automatically runs from your scalp to hair without you doing anythingm.
