Visiting Yapahuwa was a highlight so far and we saw less than a dozen people whilst exploring the fortress, which made it even more special. I hope you're enjoying the videos. Cheers Adam and Ashlee
Yapahuwa is a place worthy of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.... Yapahuwa Fort was built not for the king, but to house the Buddha's relic, which is currently enshrined in the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. The king gave it more value than his own life.
We've only been over to Pasikuda on the east coast so far and then left because the rain was about to start. Any recommendations for other places we should visit?
I'm not trying to unnecessarily glorify our history, but I believe we should give credit to our ancestors when it's deserved. They endured incredibly difficult times, facing much stronger enemies while dealing with internal conflicts, limited resources to maintain military power, and a small supportive population due to continuous warfare. The relentless invasions from South India even forced our king to transfer the capital from Polonnaruwa to Yapahuwa. Those must have been extremely challenging times. Thank you for visiting Adam.I hope you have noticed how our ancestors had to transform natural geological formations into fortresses to resist invasions, and they were remarkably skilled at it.
Luke Martin, Simon ‘Bellyful’ Wadmore and Mark Wiens have some good Sri Lankan food videos. Must tries 1. Egg & Plain Hoppers + Chicken Curry 2. Black Pork Curry (Best with Wild Boar) 3. Sri Lankan Mud Crab 4. Roast Chicken + Cheese Kotthu 5. Buffalo Curd + Kithul Treacle 6. Coconut Sambal

Thanks for the history and yes i completely agree, it's very special.
Loved the silence in yapahuwa.
That's what we said too, the peace and quiet was really noticeable.
You guys are going after hidden gems.
@@ssap3717 this definitely felt like a hidden gem! There were only about 12 people there at the time we visited. 🙂
@@adamconstanza i dont think even 1% of the locals been there. we are lazy. there are many places like that in the country. Ritigala is another gem
Let's hope we can find a few more gems along the way. 🙂
@@adamconstanza Try looking into Eastern Province Landmarks. Oldest things are usually found in east coast. FYI, its very hot on that side.
