    The level of mind games during this match was absolutely insane. If only Kasparov could have found this channel back in 1997, he would’ve had a more relaxing time.

    This match was sad in many ways. The Deep Blue team were doing all they could to damage Kasparov's preparation. They were given all of his games to analyse but refused to show Kasparov the training games Deep Blue had played with grandmasters. In the end Kasparov made a purposeful blunder thinking that Deep Blue wouldn't see the refutation because computers were materialistic back then, but Deep Blue refuted it and he lost. Garry could have won and saved humanity!

    • @jcers
      @jcers 3 года назад +51

      It was IBM that was screwing Garry over, it wasn’t the Deep Blue team. Him losing was really just a matter of time, though. Computers were always going to be better at chess than us, eventually.

    Interesting. Stockfish really doesn't like Move 26 (pawn to f4) or the follow up Nf6 from Kasparov...
    This is possibly related to the fact that after white Qf1, BOTH players miss a sequence exchanging rooks before black pushes his queen to a1 for a check.
    It really wants white to push it's king up to h2 to prevent this.
    Similar things happening around move 32 (Bc5).

    Sounds to me like Kasparov had one idea of what a computer could do, and as soon as it did something else, he declared that there must be a human behind it. Deep Blue didn't really exhibit intelligence, I think, but rather what can be done when a machine is really fast at calculating things.
    I also think that the Turing Test should involve the computer convincing more than one person of its humanity, regardless of that person's skill at the thing being tested. Kasparov might have been convinced it was a human, but an AI software developer at an IBM-equivalent company possibly would not.
    What qualifies a human to determine that a machine has passed the Turing Test?

    • @ASMRChess
      @ASMRChess  3 года назад +1

      At that time Kasparov was able to determine what version of what chess program was playing after looking at 5 of its' games with no other information given. Kasparov invented the .pgn format with the chessbase team and has always been at the forefront of chess AI development because it was an invaluable tool for his chess preparation.

    • @ASMRChess
      @ASMRChess  3 года назад +1

      Opening Theory has evolved a lot since 1997, so if the machine was not updated with a new opening book it would stand at a giant disadvantage. Also humans now have a much better understanding of how to play against a brute force style machine like Deep Blue than Kasparov did back in 97. I'm confident that most top 20 players would win convincingly against a non-updated version of Deep Blue.
