This is exactly why no one who picks up chess in adulthood can ever become a GM. It takes a certain amount of visualization that you have to train at a young age. Yes, adults can pick up the game and maybe crack 2000 elo, but the difference between 2000 and GM is bigger than 2000 and 500.

Sadly, despite being a polymath and starting at age 3-4; excelling in pretty much every sport I did, I lost my dad early on and focused on other sports/disciplines, and my chess is mediocre at best. But, like you, I also like to pretend I'd be a IM at least if only dad hadn't passed away. (Truth is, I doubt that extremely much given my chess now haha).
I mean I was on path to be a wonderkid and then I relied too much on my talent and when things reached a difficult point, I didn't know how to learn for myself, I fell off. It's not at all about being born wonderkid, it's about the work u put in. Keep your chin up
