Another cracking video, Chris. My brother-in-law is from Yorkshire, so I know from experience another phrase that your clients might need to know about. If a local says "Now then" as they walk past, it just means '"Hello"!
@@ChrisSalePhoto Some of my friends here in Bolton who have come from other parts of the world are amazed at how many dialects there are on such a tiny island! @@ChrisSalePhoto aaaaa bugger maybe edit one in as a composite photo ? wish we had such old bridges and such here where I am they make for such amazing subjects
Don't worry about a plan B. I arrived at Ribblehead last Friday, lots of snow on the ground. Woke up Saturday morning and no snow apart from the tops. If in doubt check the Ribblehead station webcams.
Hey Chris! Just loved that tree composition! It was a little bit windy so maybe a slower photo could have given an extra dramatism into the photo, but i loved that one and this video! :)
That is an incredible piece of construction. I'd go there just to see that up close. Some Roman history no doubt involved. I guess I'd go there first and then wander off into the veld.
There is a Roman road that crosses the railway line just to the south of the viaduct Jeff. The viaduct itself was built in the 1870s by Midland Railway as part of the Settle to Carlisle line.
For a moment I thought you were in Upstate New York! Love that bridge and the area. I've seen it many times online, and it seems like a wonderful location to shoot. Icy and snowy conditions are tricky with any kind of covered stones and gaps. Good idea to choose a Plan B. Cold weather tip for batteries: a hand warmer wrapped around the battery compartment with a rubber band. Works like a charm. : )
Hey Miguel! Hand warmer wrapped around the battery compartment? Now that is an excellent idea! Great advice from someone well used to shooting in the cold! :)
I loved this, I actually felt home sick for my in-laws as they live close to Kirkby Stephen and my wife and I drive through this area, usually going to Mallam, or Janet Foss/Gordale scar etc for a walk. Anyway I loved the way you looked cold, for me that looks like sunbathing weather. :) Gawd you Southerns dont look good in the Norf. Unlike us Norferners in the Sarf. By the way, we aint seen no snow down here this year, its been in double figures most of the winter, and people look positively brassed when it dips to single figures. whereas I am still wearing my summer shorts. :)
Pleased to see the Land Rover out there in the snow-a wise choice. Considering this was mainly a rekkie of sorts, I think you managed a few nice images. I quite liked the windswept tree with the limestone foreground. Clearly the Santa Claus lens needs a new name. I’m still trying to learn the local language so I appreciated the tips. 👍 Finally, after your previous three videos it seems that the quality of the vlogs is slipping just a wee bit. Can’t put my finger on it, but something is missing. Maybe it’s just me. 😉😉
My little joke has largely been well received by the people blessed to have been born in "Gods on country" Andy. Do not let it be said that a Yorkshireman doesn't know how to laugh at himself.
Chris I’ve seen this viaduct photographed in a lot of Vlogs but I would have to say I really really like your images, I think you have been well rewarded for deciding not to go to the pub in this instance and instead have your bollicks frozen off. Really like the tree image also :)
Now you're lucky to be in my favourite area with snow too. How can it get better than this! (of course, we all know God is a Yorkshireman). As for the language lesson, that was more West Riding, not North Riding I'm afraid.
I've heard it said, that keeping the batteries warm, against your body, can extend their life in cold weather... I'm from Australia and where I live, this isn't a problem, but would love the opportunity to photograph snowy scenes. Great vlog as usual :)
Hi Nigel - the first ever Tom Heaton video I ever watched (well, second if I were being completely honest) had him keeping a battery warm in his armpit!
@@ChrisSalePhoto The one you published 14 Jan 2020. You asked how 'we' would shoot this. Many said as an astro I suggested snow. I think I know the answer to my question.
Hope to be heading over there from Ireland in late April. My sister in law lives in Ilkley, but this Covid-19 virus might put pay to that? My wife has an underlying health condition 😱
It's not a good time to be travelling at the moment is it Eltin. Heard last night that the photography show has been cancelled. Hopefully things will start to improve soon.
I think it must do Michelle, it sort of runs north to south (ish). Of course you never see the sun in that part of the world, it's always bloomin raining! :)
Super images, Chris, the viaduct looked amazing and I really liked the lone tree. One question please. On your first shot with the wide angle lens you had added a filter. I was wondering what sort ( ND grad etc) as the light appeared very flat with little contrast? Thank you. Have a successful workshop.
Hi Tony, it was a 2 stop soft edged grad. It was overcast but the sky was still very bright and I wanted to retain some detail in the cloud. Hope that helps.
Hi Chris nice video of my home county, but your Yorkshire dialect needs some work. I met you last week when I was on a 121 with Rod Ireland at Aira Force, we cud of had a reyt conversation.
@1.58 did you actually say you choose the location and the compositions? Is that how it works with these workshops, people pay money, you take them to the location and show them the composition? Maybe I'm a bit slow but to think that someone else chooses the composition goes against everything I've learnt as a free thinking photographer, I get being guided to a location! Lol, sorry I don't get it. I do like your belt and braces approach Chris, broken ankles are to be avoided at all costs!
AoToGo I’ll be leading this one. Don’t you worry 😬 You have obviously taken Chris’s comments literally. It’s a good idea to have a few compositions in mind to help the group along as generally they are not experienced. @@JamesRBurnsVLOG Cheers James,, my comment wasn't meant in a negative way, just the thought of everyone ending up with the same photographs goes against everything I've learnt over the last thirty plus years. AoToGo With experience I’ve found I also like to shoot an alternative and don’t tend to go for the iconic shots. These after all are someone else’s ideas and I’d leave disappointed. It’s good to get your eye in during the beginning years. Cheers, I’m sure it will 👍👍
Not quite what I meant - vantage point would have been more accurate. But I do always have a few compositions prepared for every workshop so that I can walk people through them and explain why they work.
Sorry but I have to say this has to be one of the worst RUclips photography vloggers. You chose to make a video and then start complaining about maybe having to come back and check the conditions again etc. the humour in the video is just not funny. And to be fair, your pics really aren’t that great. Just too many self proclaimed wannabes on RUclips now. Great you have clients. But don’t record a video and moan that if you have to come back to a place you and your mate picked, then you’d be doing it for free almost... I don’t get why you are telling us your problems like this? If I was one of the guys you mentioned who have booked, I’d be feeling pretty awkward now. Seriously, make interesting content. Stop going on about your failing career as a photographer
Good luck with the workshop. I looks like that would be lots of fun in any weather!
