Thank you so much just for acknowledging and showing care for the disabled. I have several autoimmune diseases. I have bad hand days and good ones. I can swing wildly and it was a depressing few months when a nearly deadly flare resulted in 3 months of too painful to do even a no makeup makeup looks.

I was going to leave a comment saying something similar, but you've said it better. Pain/mobility issues & vision difficulties really make getting dressed, bathing, doing my hair & makeup very frustrating & time consuming. Some days I just don't bother because it's too exhausting. I really appreciate Emily recognizing that many women of a certain age still want to wear makeup but may be encountering certain limitations such as poor eyesight & arthritic hands. Disability isn't mentioned often in the Beauty Community & don"t get me started on chronic illness/invisible disabilities being ignored in general.

Valerie Palkovic that’s one thing I think she does in every tutorial or video she does, trying to show other uses for a product or palette so we don’t have to have 900 things to achieve a look. Most of us don’t have a small Sephora, nor want one, so she’s great about telling us what products we can get much use from. (I feel for her always having to stay on top of new stuff she’s been sent and keeping it organized so she can do videos on them for us, lol.)

Thanks for doing an accessible/disability friendly tutorial. There’s a huge number of people in the makeup community who have disabilities.
Also-a very goofproof brow product-essence brow pomade! It gives you nice bold but not too bold brows with barely any effort, and you know you can’t really mess it up!
My easy to apply foundations-physicians formula healthy foundation, it cosmetics cc cream. I just put them on with my fingers most of the time!
Easy blush and bronzer duo-elf aqua blush and bronzer duo, so incredibly beautiful creamy finish, so easy to blend out. I think the butter bronzer also would work like the butter blush. Highlight-the essence pure nude highlight!! So pretty and natural!

This video demonstrates exactly why you are so different from every other beauty RUclipsr. I am a psychology professor at a community college and I also work in the students with disabilities program. I have never heard a RUclipsr discuss the varying degrees of abilities that we have as human beings. And, I have never heard anyone directly say that they want to speak specifically to people who may have issues with level of experience, mobility, vision, etc. Ignoring the fact that not everyone has the same approach to learning, or is not abled in the same way as other people, is a problem I see everyday and everywhere in society. I was so touched and pleased to watch this video because it showed me that you are an empathic and tender person, as well as knowledge about makeup. Thank you 😊💕

I am nearly 60 , I have severe arthritis. I am still a woman, I still want to feel pretty. For me, I wear makeup just for myself. For that little bit of joy it gives me to still feel feminine. My hands have begun to shake in recent years. Not terribly, but the tremors are enough that blending for me at times is difficult, and my elbows ache which one wouldn't think it makes a difference here. Ohhh have I found that to be not so. If I have to try and blend and blend , for me the elbow pain is so real !.
    I loved this video !!!!

@@MrAshtonone thank you so much for that smile you just gave me! My heart , thoughts, and prayers for your mother. She sounds like a lovely woman indeed. Life can be very difficult to maneuver the smallest of things when a physical disability seems to try to take every single joy left in daily life. Something small , like this..the ability to be strong enough to push through day to day and then not be able to continue on with our beauty routines, it really for me was frustrating and very sad. I hope your Mom gets as much hope and joy in having the small things in our day that are now more difficult , made a lot easier ♥️🙏 Much love to you both 😃

No one ever thinks about discussing the difficulties that the disabled have in using makeup. I became disabled in 2015. I have good days, but lately, I have more days when I just can't get dressed, much less use makeup. I also have malasma. It's so frustrating to be ignored by the beauty community who seems to be following the more is more Instagram makeup, and it's so rare that I could even attempt that. Thank you for acknowledging us people with disabilities.

Now that my skin is finally clear, I'm able to use hardly any makeup. At 44 years old, that's a miracle to me. This morning, I did my normal skincare routine and then went in the bathroom, swiped on a couple stripes of the Bare Minerals Rescue Complexion stick and rubbed it in with my hands...MY HANDS. My skin looked good. I popped on some Colourpop cream blush sticks and then threw on the Benefit brown mascara primer. I'm very fair so on a holiday, I don't want black mascara...it just looks too intense. The brown primer/mascara from Benefit makes my eyelashes show up but not overpower everything else. I'm so happy my skin is clear. It's been a 3 years struggle.

I recently bought Matte About Town & love ❤️ that little palette. The old version of Too Faced Natural Eyes is always in my Go Bag - I can almost use it without looking. Another suggestion for face coverage is a tinted SPF like Australian Gold with Mineral Foundation over top. It’s fast & easy. I have texture to cover & have had great luck with Physicians Formula pressed. PUR pressed is foolproof & buildable also. Neither has too much radiance, nor do they look flat. TY Emily for this wonderful video. YES to some vids of face/eye all-in-one palettes!!

Thank your for addressing the accessibility of the products!
If you prefer liquid foundation (or have more oily skin), Dior Backstage is one of the easiest to work with. Not the easiest perhaps to get out of the bottle (it's a liquid without a pump, just a tiny tube opening) but once you have it on your face it blends like a dream. Also, if you miss a spot it won't be as noticeable, because it has medium coverage and it doesn't make harsh lines of where the product has been put on and where it hasn't (which most higher coverage or thicker formula foundation would do). If you have bad lighting or eye-sight impairment this may be a good option for you.
As for mascara, I would also add: pick dryer formula over the more liquid ones. They are way less messy around and not as easy to accidentally put all over your eyelids. A good one is Collistar Volume Unico.
I would also recommend bronzing blushes from Artdeco. They are quite pigmented but easy to blend, and with one swipe on the product and then buff on your cheeks you get a beautiful sun-kissed result (and you can skip putting bronzer, blush and highlighter separately - or just add some stronger highlight only).
Finally, I would also mention packaging and how easy it is to open. For example, cardboard palettes with magnetic closing would be easy to open (e.g. ABH or Zoeva palettes) compared to plastic or metal with clasps (e.g. Two Faced). Loose powder has also the problem of a jar than needs to be twisted to open (which may not be easy for people relying on one hand or people with e.g. arthritis) so pressed powders have another advantage over them. This also disqualifies many concealers in jars.

    • @MrAshtonone
      @MrAshtonone 5 лет назад

@berlineczka - another good one I recently found that is not a stick but easy to apply with fingers is the CC cream from Chanel. It is in a tube with a twist off cap, but the product comes out easily, a little goes a long way, and it blends out so well with just your fingers. Very little pressure is needed to get the product out. The finish is beautiful.

Love the video - so glad to see a tutorial for the differently abled :) The only feedback I'd offer, is if you do another video in the series (which I'd love to see) - take into consideration how difficult the packaging is to open and close, as that may be a barrier for some people as well.

I don't struggle with any physical disabilities but I'm so here for this acknowledgement of people who are challenged with mobility and vision. I remember a user on reddit once asking for makeup that would be easy to put on because it takes so much energy for them to do their makeup but they love doing it and don't wanna give it up.
We have no choice but to continue to stan.

Discovered the Milani Prep, Set, and Glow powder because of Emily, and it's now my go-to setting/finishing powder. It's so finely milled and light weight, and it softens the look of fine lines and pores-just absolutely perfect as an all over face powder. I really appreciate that Emily isn't just churning out a high volume of thoughtless content. Rather, she really focuses on producing videos that will help the viewer-and she does it in such a fun, no-pressure way. You can tell that she enjoys what she does and isn't all about the $$$.

Essence Lash Princess (the purple one) is also great. The brush is easy, shaped to your eye for quick application and will curl your lashes for you, as well as last all day.

You were one of the very first, if not THE first (it was a long time ago!) youtubers whom I watched to learn about makeup and skin care. Being the youngest of 5 daughters, my mom never really taught me about makeup. She probably thought I would learn by diffusion from my older sisters! (and she wasn't wrong), but where I picked up tips from them here and there, I truly learned to love makeup from you. I haven't watched your videos as diligently as I used to, as I discovered that youtube had unknowingly unsubscribed me from your channel a while ago, but I now happily a subscriber again. I felt like sharing a bit of the positive impact that you have had on my life, and encourage you to keep up the amazing work. Your joy and passion are contagious! God bless!

Emily I just want to thank you for posting this. I’ve recently lost a good amount of weight and started treating my anxiety (with my doctors help). Thanks to these changes, I started to take an interest in my appearance. I’m almost 45, and have been blind in my left eye since infancy. I was never really in to makeup, mostly because it was very hard for me to cope with eye products. Thanks to your tips, I’m finally developing some small skill, and now I can at least make my eyes look like sisters, rather than completely unrelated!
Thank you so much for the practical, helpful advice! ❤️❤️❤️

Emily, This was a great video! Not only was this such a sincere inclusive video for all women dealing with so many different things in their lives, some of them are part of my personal life. Also, for me on a day to day and the many women I take regional (Metra) trains to and from work in the Chicago area, you gave everyone some new things to think about trying. Also, thank you for showing the Nars palette in action! I have been curious about it. I have seen it in store and was on the fence about it since I was not sure if it would be really useful for me. I am one of those women that does her hair and foundation at home and I am out the door heading to the Metra station to hop on a train to Chicago to go to work. My in transit makeup routine always consists of products that work easily and are not "fussy". Go to products for me are the ABH MR palette, the Bobbi Brown Nude Drama Palette (new purchase and love it), Nars Narcissist, UD Born on the Run, and any of the Huda Obsessions palettes I own (I have grabbed ND minis and full-sized pallets as well) the newer BareMinerals formula (pressed) is easy to work with but does not travel well since it is so soft. Bronzer is Hoola mini, blush (any of my lighter buildable blushes), go to brow is ABH clear and then Benefit Gimme Brow, DiorShow Iconic Mascara with a standard lash curler, Lunch Money by Colour Pop is an easy highlight to use for finger swipe and blend. Lipsticks (any bullet lipstick that is a cream that is not overly creamy or messy; good ones are Bobbi Brown or Urban Decay and Bare Minerals and Lipstick Queen Saint and Sinner collection) and the easiest go to is Gloss is Buxom Full-on Lip cream, Laura Mercier Lip Glace, or Fenty Gloss - (Fussy or the original). I have a select stash of Sigma, Sephora Pro, Mac, Wet N Wild Pro, Smashbox, and IT Cosmetics Brushes that make easy work out of putting on my makeup on an express train. I am done and everything put in my backpack (25 min) just in time to place my Mobile Starbucks order to pick up at the train station. Mascara during 60MPH track switch - no problem. For those wondering - I do not do my makeup in the train care, I find my spot in the vestibule stairwell and stay away from other people so I don't need to worry about offending anyone, getting any tapped off product on anyone or worse - causing any allergic reactions in my fellow riders. Hope this helps any others that makeup on the go! xoxo Lynn

Very good ideas and examples! I'm an older woman and I've found that over the past few years my hands are not as strong and reliable when holding things and using some of my makeup tools.
Regarding the powder shadow. I agree that powder is the easiest to use and not screw up when doing brows. But I've found that those tiny brushes and spoolies that come with the product are now more difficult to remove from the little palette and then holding them so I feel like I've got good control. I find that a small headed angled brush and spoolie on a standard handles work much better than those tiny ones included in the kit. Pretty sure your Mom would agree with me! :-)

For someone who won’t be bothered too much with brows, I agree the brow powder kits work beautifully if you can find your shade and are easy peasy. I love the Loreal brow stylist plumper though just as much to just sweep across the brows and go. It fills the brows in with the fibers or whatever magic is has in it and the brush size is perfect to not make a mess or make difficult.

Love this video! I cannot get over how similar the combination of shades in the NARS palette is to your Needs palette! I bet you could get the same look from both! I also really love that you acknowledge that not all stick products (blush sticks, eyeshadow sticks, etc) are easier! I have many eyeshadow sticks and I never find them easier to apply than powder shadows, particularly sticks in cooler shades. Potted cream eyeshadows in certain shades (shimmers that are a few shades darker than my skin tone, like a lighter bronze or mauve) are really easy, but I find stick shadows to be quite tedious sometimes! Colourpop super shock shadows are probably the easiest for one shadow looks in terms of ease of application and blending with fingers.

Hi Emily, long-time viewer here but I was late to the party with this video! Thank you SO much for doing something like this. I was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS, or just MS for short) nearly 2 years ago and began struggling with fine motor skills. While I've managed to keep hold on most of them (I'm so blessed to be doing as well as I am!) I unfortunately lost a lot of use of my left hand that just never came back (yet --always hopeful)! This video is not only practically helpful, but is a step towards the right direction in shedding light onto what a privilege it is for people to be able to put on their makeup without hassle!
