      The cast list was set to alphabetical order so that everybody gets equal billing (in other words, no leads) since it was an ensemble piece.
      However, if one were to argue, the "protagonists" - for the lack of the better word - are a toss between Chazz Palminteri and Gabriel Byrne; more so the former, because it is through the perspective of Agent Kujan that we're unravelling the mystery of the fire on the dock which was the catalyst to the entire narrative in the first place. Not even Keaton was close in driving the story; he was the hub of the plot, but he also was technically a passive participant (he did what Verbal's lies dictate him to do).

    5. Ed Harris in Apollo 13- Ed Harris gives a very standard performance that never turns into anything special.(2.5/5)
    4. Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys- Pitt's performance is somewhat interesting in his first few scenes even if over the top in his craziness, but as he continues to appear his performance just become repetitive. (2.5/5)
    3. Tim Roth in Rob Roy- Tim Roth gives an appropriately flashy villainous performance with a certain slimy charm. (3.5/5)
    2. James Cromwell in Babe- James Cromwell gives a wonderful performance that is genuinely moving and heart warming. It is a unique performance that finds just the right tone, and creates the right presence throughout the film. (4.5/5)
    1. Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects-Kevin Spacey gives a great performance that perfectly conveys the right sort of mystery with his character without ever giving away too much or too little through the course of the film. (5/5)

    They were all good performances, and I'll always be partial to Usual Suspects because it was so masterfully written and acted by it's ensemble cast but I have to admit Tim Roth's performance was the best. One of the greatest portrayal's of a villain, ever.

    I still think Tim Roth should have won this. Spacey was good, Brad Pitt was also good in 12 Monkeys, but Roth was better than both IMO, but hey, maybe Roth will do a role where he could get another Oscar nod and win, he's given at least two performances, IMO, where he should have won Oscars, Reservoir Dogs and this. There are other movies he could have gotten Oscar nominations for, Legend of 1900 is an example he could have gotten an nomination, but he didn't and this is all my opinion.

    • @sooszq
      @sooszq 10 лет назад +5

      I think the characters in this movie were an ensemble. There wasn't really a 'lead' actor. To the person who thinks that this movie is overrated, all of the actors excelled, whether they were playing the cops or the robbers. Although the style of the film was noir-ish, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the performances.

    • @MegaJessed

    1994 was really his year. He did a dramatic departure from what he normally does in acting with with this film. It's such an odd, complex, twisted sort of thing--the movie overall.
    He was also a solid domestic husband on the brink in "The Ref." A psychotic obsessed with fulfilling the legacy of the deadly sins in "Seven." And the ultimate Hollywood producer and boss you'd pray never to have in "Swimming With Sharks." What a record.
    Of course he won. It was for the whole year.
