Rizzo: "Children don't inherently creep me out"
Benji: "They creep me out. Why are you so small?"
That made me laugh way harder than I should have.
Why so smol!?
This made me laugh too hard!
Also sorry for the flood but i remember the scene the sister got caught even when she was in her bed made me so upsed. BED IS SAFE PLACE. IF YOU GET UNDER THE BLANKETS THE DEMONS WON'T COME.
Protection!
@@popcastbutscaryjust an FYI at 37:00 when you guys are discussing how Doug got cursed by entering the house, in the Japanese grudge movie, simply interacting with someone who’s been in the house will get you cursed
@@lessismore8533 I would be so heated if I got killed by a ghost because my roommate bumped into the mailman who delivered a package to a haunted house.
@@lessismore8533 yeah entering the house or interacting with someone thats cursed bascially gets you involved.
It’s such a genius scare tactic in a horror movie!!
The director of this movie is Takashi Shimizu, the same director/creator of the Japanese version Ju-on. Sam Raimi liked the originals, and reached out to make an adaptation for American audiences. So Shimizu collected some of the stories he’d done about Ju-on, and made an adaptation where most of the main characters were American. He kept the setting, and even the same ghost actors. Takako Fuji, the actress that did the main ghost Kayako, just does such an amazing job. Any of the sequels without her are just lacking the same scare factor that she brought to the role.
“it’s one thing to haunt me, but do you have to be messy too?!” 😂😂
Right!?! Get your shit together ghost!
Those letters that Bill Pullman had were from Kayako personally. She kept sending him love notes and he didn't even know who she was. That's why he went to the house, to try and figure out who she was and what she wanted but Kayako's husband had already murdered her and their child and then hung himself afterward. My theory is that Kayako became obsessed with Bill because she saw how sweet and loving of a husband he was unlike her own and she desperately wanted to know what it was like to be loved by him and that caused her to spiral mentally. And my only guess as to why she cut her face out of all the family photos is because she did want out so badly and those pictures represented a life that was a complete and total lie. But those are just my speculations.
Oh that’s so depressing but I love the lore
@@popcastbutscaryJapanese horror is typically depressing. Watch the original Japanese movie called “Dark Water”. And “Ring 0 Birthday” a prequel to the Ring 1998..
That's the gist I got as well (I love it because it makes Katako sympathetic, but it doesn't negate her actions and how scary she and Toshio can be). I've heard that her and Sadako (from Ringu/The Ring) are based off of Onryo ghosts - and in Japanese folklore, they're usually women that were mistreated in life before getting a tragic death that results in them becoming vengeful ghosts.
This movie proved hiding under the blankets is no longer safe 😮😮 we’re all gonna die.
omg you're right! that's actually terrifying 😵
YEP! And ever sense then I try to have an eye mask.
When my twin daughters were babies, their cribs were in my room for the first year. One of them used to make that noise in the dead of night for fun. I'm still not over it.
I hate that 😭
Ma'am you make me not wanna have kid's 😂😂
@kratos-iu9bs I definitely didn't have any more after that 😅 they just turned 10, and my little grudge baby still loves all things creepy and spooky
That's amazing! 😂 My sister slept with her eyes open as a child, and when I was a toddler I would point at the wood panel walls and cry and tell my dad "the faces are laughing". 😱😵 Little kids creeping their parents out like it's their job!
Nah the bed is sacred ground, that scene is illegal
I love how many of the comments are about this 😂
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT OUR WESTERN TRADITIONS lololol
@@krose6451 same lol
Only if there's light on 😉
The blanket needs to be tucked under your feet, can't have exposed entrances like that
Not Rizzo hitting Benji with the "that's what I think every time you come to my door" after his "Why are you so small?" 😂😂😂
One of my favorite off-the-cuff remarks I've made on this channel lolol
@popcastbutscary it was so quick and the delivery was excellent 👌😂 I applaud you.
I was afraid when I showered for a month bc of this film! 😂
And that sound!!!! It still creeps me out!😱
That’s so funny sorry
that noise the ghost makes is 100% the creepiest part of this movie imo. im annoyingly sensitive to sounds and that shit made my skin crawl. also, on an entirely different note, the mug rizzo's drinking out of is cute as fuck and i love it
Agreed about the mug
aww thank you both!
24:09 When I was a kid, I stopped using blankets for weeks after watching this scene 😅 Even when it was freezing cold, I refused to use blankets 😅
I was terrified to sleep on a bed after accidentally seeing Johnny Depp's death scene in Nightmare on Elm Street
I watched that bus jumpscare scene so many times, Rizzo's pure utter fear in that moment was so genuine but so funny 😭
Benji going to hide in his hoodie(That jumper looks so comfortable btw, and so beautiful) was just icing on the cake
haha thanks :P
I accidentally saw part of this on tv at my grandparents house when I was like 10 and since then I've been afraid when I tuck my legs in under my blanket that some creature will magically appear under the covers
That's fair! hahaha
I highly recommend "Gonjiam Haunted Asylum". I hear it's one of the scariest movies to watch. Great reaction video to a classic, BTW ❤
Oooh shit 👻
I watched this at night with my then boyfriend and we had to stop halfway thru and finish it in the morning - it's so good 😈 ❤
This is like the only horror movie I've fallen asleep on lol
That movie is so good and creepy! The scariest one I watched in the past year was Talk To Me. I hope they do that one too.
My sister saw the ring and the grudge at like 13, it super spooked her and as I was apparently an evil child, with my long dark hair and pale self I once stood over her while she slept, with my hair in front of my face and just waited until she woke up. Can't really explain the utter horror and screams that came from her.. but it really goes to show all you need is long dark hair to be a lil spooky. I thought it was funny then, but we both laugh now.
Loving the horror reactions ^^
you're the worst hahahaha
YES SEE THE RING, even if you remember scary movie 3 during it, it's so well done you will still get chills or a sense of foreboding and unease.
It works so well even after all these years!
@@popcastbutscary it truly does, although it's so interesting film wise i've been able to watch it over and over again to marvel at. the grudge, i still haven't seen it fully except for one time. and one was enough - something about the sound design....and the unsettling tone with uneasy actions they use. there's even a second grudge (americanized version) that has a scene to do with.....drinking milk out of a carton....that just struck something fucking terrified in me. i loved your reaction to this film because - those who react like this find the same things frightening. and i'm so glad to know i'm not the only one.
@@MistressMadcapI’m glad certain ppl didn’t let scary movie ruin the Ring. I have come to resent that from Scary Movie franchise. But hey they targeted “Scream” yet Scream is still going…
Ive watched this in the movies and it was very fun. People say the original one is scarier but I never got my around watching it. This was around the time the US of A wanted to make a US version of every single hit asian horror/suspense film.
But one tip, PLEASE, if you even intend to watch a tale of to sisters, I swear, watch the original Korean one if you can. Its so much more full of life, beautifully shot, so emotional. The US version is just something they regurgitated.
Starting from The Grudge or The Curse?
@@popcastbutscaryI think they're talking about another movie called "The Tale of Two Sisters" that had the American adaptation called, "The Uninvited".
This movie really fucked me up for some reason. I think it's a mix of seeing it at just the best/worst time, plus it hit on a bunch of my triggers -- sounds, visual disturbances in tech or mirrors, etc -- and it really stuck with me for a long time, making me gunshy to watch other scary movies too just in case. That vocal fry sound still gets me sometimes, even years and years later, though I've gotten a lot better about (re)watching it and seeing reactions to it.
The vocal fry is the worst
same :(
The grudge is such a classic thriller. One of my favorite movies along with the Ring.
It’s at the top of my list for sure now!
@@popcastbutscary hell yeah! Agreed 💯
I hope you guys watch the sequel because I feel like it wraps things up in a bow where you find out what really happened in the house, why it was haunted and more about the grudges rules and abilities when it comes contact with their victims. Plus it continues off where the first one leaves off 😭💔✨ but yeah honestly I always tell people I feel like the grudge is one of the most scary horror icons because no matter what happens and what you do, you coming in first contact with her is absolute death 🥲
We watched this for family movie night when I was like 7 and it absolutely terrifies me to this day lol
Family movie night!?!?
What!
What!
😂. I love your family 😂
Noooo I’m still traumatized from my family doing that crap, fricken had me watch the strangers in like 3rd grade 😭
Please watch The Ring (2002) next because it's genuinely one of the few great American remakes
We will be!!!
you absolutely need to see the ring lmao that was my childhood fear. but watching it as an adult, i love the mystery aspect of it.
I saw it YEARS ago but Benji hasn’t 👀
So I went to see this movie with my nephew and when I got home, my phone rang and it was this horrible breathing crackling voice sound from the movie, then my sister started laughing. She had bronchitis and did a great imitation it freaked me out.
Omg Rizzo is me lol this movie scares me so bad 😂i remember when this came out everyone was making that noise to scare people. Its so creepy!! You should definitely watch the ring, the sequel scared me worse but both are scary. Loved the video!! Poor Rizzo and Benji! You should get a scary popcast blanket for these movies!
I've never seen The Ring 2 but Benji hasn't seen EITHER!
Till this day I'm still afraid to close my eyes more than 4 seconds when I showered. It creeps the shit out of me 😭
it took me yeeeears before that little cat boy sound stopped scaring me. so i feel you rizzo. but that doesn't mean i can't laugh at your expense🤣🤣
YOU'RE LAUGHING AT MY EXPENSE!?!?!
I can't even watch this movie in the small square on the screen, I was truly terrified for months after this! I feel you Rizzo, that was me during that movie
hahahaha - not even the small square!?!?!
Just the ghost sounds are enough @@popcastbutscary
First time I saw this movie was during a sleepover when it released to theaters-- my mom spent the night walking up the stairs making that sound to terrify my friends and me. Even today, this movie still freaks me out and makes me jump. It's the sounds and kids that really do it for me. There have been wine glasses lost while watching.
not the wine glasses bwahahaha 🍷
I love their friendship
Benji immediately is like don’t wanna go home alone? Wanna stay over? lol 😂
Definitely watch The Ring next, but I wanted to suggest a movie to throw on your list. It's called, "Mother" (2017), starring Jennifer Lawrence, and Javier Bardem.
It has no correlation with The Grudge and The Ring, I just think it'd make for a great reaction
Hahaha that’s a unique suggestion!
I usually don't like remakes but The Grudge and The Ring are two of my favourite movies
It's because the grudge directed by the same director from the original movie
Yeah I’m about to wear this reaction out!😭💀 This would honestly have to be one of my favorite reactions from you guys, this was so funny and entertaining👏🏾
It was one of my favorite to film! I had so much fun discovering this classic. Horrible to edit tho #cursed
I watched your reaction to The Ring first. So at 28:22 when the manager put his whole hand in the liquid substance on the floor I was immediately taken back to Benji's comments about people touching strange substances. 😂
My heart broke when rizzo didn’t say “En-GRUDGE” only to be put back together again a millisecond later🥰🥰
We're on the same wavelength!
20 years after we saw that in theaters and that f-ing noise STILL gives me full body chills. Scarred for life and I will never recover from this film. But watched every second of it with y'all! 😅
you're so brave! ✊
‘The Grudge’? You mean, the one where Anna Faris accidentally burns the hands of the ghost and then the ghost tells her that her Japanese “dishonors his ears…”
(Just kidding)
Hahahaha
“TEMPURA. SUSHI. SASHIIMMIIII”
1:58 I haven’t been shocked like that in a while UNTIL game of thrones when Tommen just casual walks out that window
it works even if you see it coming!
The Ring & The Grudge were both depicted in Scary Movie 3 & 4 respectively 😂
rizzo is so valid tbh. my dads a huge horror movie fan and this is one of the only movies that scared him the first time he watched 😭
I had the same experience: I appreciated The Ring and it was a decent spooky movie. The Grudge got _under my skin_ even though on a second watch the scares are ridiculous, the _weirdness_ of it had me terrified like a four year old hiding under the covers.
when this movie came out, i thought it was so terrifying! the iconic sound, the attack from under the covers - it is still creepy!
This movie has been burned into my brain since I was a kid. In 2004, I was 8 years old. Shook me to my core. Still can't watch the full movie as an adult. I get sleep paralysis and The Grudge is my sleep paralysis demon. She is what is always in the back of my mind. *shivers* 😂😂
Awww this brings back memories! Me and a group of friends all watched this together as ickle teenagers when they were staying over at my house. There we all were in the dark, on the sofas with snacks and blankets... And then that FUCKING BED SCENE happened 😂 blankets flew off, snacks went in the air, when I say we SHAT ourselves 😂
Love the reaction so much! Honestly this is one of the scariest movies to me up to this day. Although the cast of this movie is predominantly Caucasian I think that this actually adds to the story and makes this movie better. I think it made this movie scarier and easier for American audience to understand and relate to because the characters didn’t initially know or grow up with these sort of stories in Japanese culture. For me I grew up with these stories and beliefs so this movie was sort of bringing those to life. I also believe that this is why you would be catching me or any people like me there because ain’t no way I am going into a house with so many traumatic deaths. This is explained in the movie but in Japanese culture we (speaking from my personal experience and not everyone) believe that death lives on and traumatic death especially from your own hand is shameful in the culture even though it happens a lot. Before I had seen this movie I never understood why my parents were so freaked out by this movie and then I finally understood when I saw it. It was also unfortunate that I accidentally scared my parents because I looked like the ghost lady when my hair was wet as a child and apparently I would be making the noise when I was young kid and baby. I think my favorite seen from this movie was the elevator seen just because it was so minimal but haunting to me. Sorry for the long rant, I’m just so happy that so many people enjoyed this movie 💛
the reason i always remember this movie is because it ripped away the illusion of being safe under the covers. when i was younger, horror movies never affected me afterwards, i could always sleep fine, but that scene messed me up for a little while lol. when you think about it, horror movies actually generally respect the "under the covers" rule
I watched this movie when I was 10 at a birthday party. Ruined my sleep for years. Haven't sat and watched an entire scary movie since 😅
Have you guys heard of guillermo del toro's (can't spell his name lolll) "Mama"? It seems like your cup of tea!
Oh I’ll put that on our list
Was that what the feral children in Scary Movie 5 (5? The one with Ashley Tisdale lmao) were meant to be?
@@melrenee5416 yep!
I left the theatre after the bus scene, i was so scared drivibg home that night, kept looking in the back seat of my car
18:10 “nah officer I was taking a nap in the attic idk what happened”
Can't wait for your reaction to The Ring! The Ring didn't scare me so much while watching it, but it gave me nightmares for weeks. Both The Ring and The Grudge are such haunting, creepy movies. They stick with you. You should check out both of their original Japanese versions as well!
Same honestly! Don’t know why it didn’t creep me out
When I was a kid I avoided these kinds of movies like the plague but, for me, an underrated moment was when this movie happened to be playing on the TV and I stopped to watch, then it's that scene with the police officer is watching the CCTV and it just goes black and the eyes pop up. I was TRAUMATISED.
Seee, so there are movies you havn't seen 😆... the flex of "we grew up watching movies so no first time reaction". There are always movies one hasn't seen. It's your choice 🤗
Oof, I remember going to see this in the theater and having to go home to my parent's house and sleep on the couch. Honestly, I'd recommend the Japanese version of the Ring ... i thought it was scarier ... also ... they made a ring vs. grudge film in Japan with the idea being if you watch the curse tape in the curse house, which ghost will get you first
OMG please watch the ring !!!! i watched it when i was 11 and had nightmares for weeks and couldn't sit in my living room alone 😝
When I first watched this movie my bedroom was in my parents' attic and they used electric baseboard heaters that groaned when they heated up. Needless to say I woke up several times a night thinking I was about to die
I grew up in the 2000s watching both this and Ju-on as a kid iboth movies terrified me and now as adult this and ju-on still continues to scare me 😨😰😭😭😭😭
One of my party tricks is that I can do an impression of the grudge sound effect eerily well.
15:56 I saw this in the theaters, so it was a big ass screen, and this movie scared the holy crap out of me, lol. Plus, being in a foreign land and feeling utterly alone… terrifying.
Oh my god that would have been amazing 🫥
@@popcastbutscary My husband, who was my boyfriend at the time, had this ancient Cadillac where the front seat was one whole long bench (remember those? Lol). I rode in the middle, clinging to his arm the whole way back to my dorm. You know, just in case some angry ass ghost chick tried to open my door and snatch me out of it. 😉
My sister actually loved this movie when she was like 6 and it scared the crap out of me….at 12 years old 😂😂😂
I'm still afraid of staircases because of this film.
I remember getting traumatized by this movie and so many others cause I wanted to be grown and watch it with my older siblings 😒then end up scared of everything and have to sleep in the same bed with them 🤦🏻♀️🫣😨😩
I dont think The Ring will make you jump, compared to this movie, but they are (imo) very equal on terms of horror quality that creeps you out and keeps you interested. I actually prefer The Ring over The Grudge but they're both horror classics that stand out among other horror films. I really enjoy both and I remember being thoroughly scares by both when they each came out. They were of course scarier when they released but they've held up really amazingly! They're sort of like nostalgic horror and I love them.
I will say as somebody who loves horror and Al things gore that fcking SOUND creeped me completely out it’s so unsettling 😂
I saw this in a drive in theater when it was first released in the theaters.
The bus and the door (her head sliding down) really messed me up, but the worst part is what happened after I returned home and went to bed.
Heard the sound of a cat meowing almost exactly like the film.
I think it was in heat , lonely, or hurt but that was unsettling.
Anyway glad you enjoyed!
If you want to watch the sequel, it's connected to the first..the third film is as well, but I wouldn't recommend watching after the second one.
The Reboot that came out years later by Raimi was actually pretty good in my opinion.
Honestly I'm so glad I watched you guys react to this. I felt like such a wuss being so terrified and traumatized by this movie in high school hahaha.
the way this movie scarred me as a child🧍🏻♀I legitimately haven't watched it since like '08 🥸 did i used to constantly make the throat noise as a kid to scare people but especially my mom? hell yeah 🧚🏼♀ used to put my long dark hair in front of my face too hehehe
I just realized I always confuse this movie with The Ring, so it was a first time watch for me too! I never thought I'd be brave enough to watch it, but with you guys I was able to!
Not me only being able to rewatch the scary movies through you guys. I am too scared to watch them alone 😅. Although I could rewatch anything with zaddy Rizzo hehe! Love you both tho 💜
Y’all gotta see the older ju on movies it ups the creepiness by a lot the Japanese are so fucking good at this genre it’s insane
Why I'm watching this at 4:20 in the middle of the night when I live alone
The scene in the stairwell where it grabs the antenna on her phone has HAUNTED ME sense I was 5 years old. It was roughly a year after it came out so it was playing on the tv. I had wondered into the room and saw that scene play out. I remember screaming and running to my grandma crying my eyes out 😂 even watching it now as a horror movie buff and being 23 years old....still gives me the heebie jeebies
i can make that throat sound, it's easy. In fact, once my siblings and cousins had seen ju-on/grudge, I used to make that sound to tease them. They slapped me afterward, but it was fun
I had no idea there was a remake! I watched the Japanese one round my friends house when I was 13ish.....it was my first horror film. I remember hiding under a blanket screaming and clinging to each other!
Me: HATES SCARY MOVIES
Also me: watches ever scary movie reaction you guys make 😂
this was and probably still is, the only movie that scared the shit out me after seeing it as a kid.. that noise man, i was scared to sleep or shower 🤣🤣🤣🤣 poor little 10 yr old me ( also idk why my fam. let me watch it lol)
Why am I just now discovering you guys have this channel!? I love you guys and I love spooky! I'm a bad fan 😢❤
Basically Kayako, the mom, fell for Peter. Takeo, the dad, thoufhr she had an affair and his son wasnt his due to hisb low sperm
as always, love the energy!!

Honey, a blanket ain't saving you, that fuckin thing will be the reason you'll be tasting brimstone and fire
Rahhhhhh!
I don't remember watching the orginal movie but I have watched the Japanese netflix series (Ju-on: orgins). The series was mindblowing and terrifying! it rlly plays into how memories/tragedies that repeat in thehouse with different victims, it is very confusing if you've never seen the movies but it is INSANELY eerie.
benji: “what movie were we watching when they were falling off the balcony slowly?”
me: “…………Megamind??????”
Yes please watch the Ring right away- they are so well paired
Also, another movie with a prominent child character, and in my mind is in the same universe as “The Ring”, called “Case 39” stars Renee Zwellweiger, and Bradley Cooper (young)
I’ve seen the original as well. I’m still freaked out by both… and Also The Ring and it’s original…. I still can’t with static … nope 🏃🏻♀️
Also, I’m waiting til morning to watch this reaction…. Because midnight is not the best time … nope
@@Ronka79 you're smart 😭 I watched this at midnight, needed to pee halfway thru, and spent the rest of the video too scared to open the door
y'all are rad!
absolutely love this movie to pieces!
this movie started to freak me out because it reminded me of those Japanese horror games like the closing shift and the convenience store
yeah this was a freaky spooky ass movie
Fun fact, William Mapother, who played Matthew, is Tom Cruise's cousin.
You should also check out the Japanese one (more emotional & eerier in my opinion) and the sequel. The Ju-on/The grudge film series has a cool & artistic way of unchronologically telling the parts of the story.
feel like if you guys are going to watch these- you gotta watch the Scary Movies- definitely another marathon is necessary
From what I remember there are two evil spirits. A woman and a little boy. I think the boy was in the second movie.
You guys should watch Conjuring and Conjuring 2. Both are awesome.
That’s on our list!!
@popcastbutscary OMG really!? I watched both when they came out (I was born in 2005) and Conjuring was the reason I slept curled up, back touching the walls for YEARS. Both are great but the second one is my favorite (due to one specific scene.) The characters feel real and I love Lorraine and Ed's relationship. It's so beautiful and healthy.
Loved this reaction😂 omg I hope the Conjuring / Annabelle series and Rosemary's Baby are on your list!!

lmao not Benji wearing my pj's from Walmart 🤣
Besides watching The Ring, another suggestion I have is “Darkness Falls”. It has a very hunky protagonist, and a character from Buffy
I hope you guys watch the Grudge 2 even better and scarier!! 😅🥰
love watchin you guys make scary movies a lil less with ya'll witty commentary and banter 🤣😂 can't wait to see you two watch foreign horror such as the sadness & gonjiam haunted asylum
Maybe it's the uncanny valley?
Ooh that’s probably the reason!
