When i was a young mom of 3. I stayed home to raise them. My then husband did not value my role. His often comment was “you don’t work. What did you do all day?”
I felt so unappreciated and really wanted his to see all that i did and the monetary value of me as the mom of his children. He never did. Our marriage ended
Years later i remarried. To a man that valued a “stay at home mom”
He wanted me to stay home. His logic was “either you raise them off the streets will raise them. Either way they are going to grow” He helped me feel so much value in my life as a mom. I never had the feeling of needing to be paid.

My wife decided after our first daughter was born that she wanted to be a stay at home mom and after the talk, I went out got a better paying job sometimes working 2 and 3 jobs for them.
I eventually started my own company. She has been a SA mom for 35 years, although the kids have long gone in their own lives and I have no regrets I wouldn’t have changed anything.

Omg this came at the most perfect time! I am in this same boat today! I recently got offered my job back from last year and I had to explain to the new boss that there's a lot of differences in my situation this year then last. Last year, I was just getting back on my feet, living with roommates, just day visiting my kids, having no car, having separated from my husband for a few months, and pregnant. This year, I have the baby, my husband is back in the home, I got my own place, a car, and my oldest son lives with me now. So we planned for just 2 days of the week to work, but as i keep finding someone to watch the baby. Today happened to be the day I couldn't get any family or even close friends to ask to babysit.
I'm sitting her listening to your podcast, definitely feeling the struggle to find my identity outside of being a mom. It's tough. I really thought 2 days wasn't gonna be hard to commit to... it's the 3rd week of work and not necessarily "stuck" home but unable to get to work... thinking, "Is 2 days a week, 4 days a payday, even worth it?"

Something I picked up here in this conversation. The two of you work really, really well together. And that is a blessing. There seems to be a balance here. In regards to you TRID, you obviously are a fabulous teacher (or mentor, depending on the tasks at hand). There is a good wisdom about you and in watching these Podcasts, we get to pick up on your personality more. So this wisdom is blended with what I would call stillness. This amazing calm of understanding how this Universe operates. And then with you Sheena, you have this flow about you. Both of you are talented, intelligent and that shows in your children as well. During the years my wife and I were together, though we didn't have children, we made it a point to work together like a partnership. Not competing, but supporting. And this is the beautiful thing I see about the two of you. It's really, really good

I love Trid's idea of stay at home mom/dad invoicing the working partner and getting paid. It's been floated before and gets shot down every time, because who would want to charge their own family for a labour of love? But it's necessary in this case especially when the kids are younger, just to balance out the financial and power differences that can wreck havoc even on a loving family.

Job-sharing - where two qualified people share one position and split the salary. In the UK at least, this is an option for teachers, accounting, and many other jobs. Good for parenting, or illness/recovery/disability, or sane life balance. It could be split by days (in the classroom) or by function. It takes a little bit of planning, but is very workable.

Sheena, you of all people know that a SA home mom works harder taking care of the household than a working mom. A working mom is expected to work all day and then come home and still take care of the household and that’s how the Love in the relationship erodes and eventually results in divorce.

For me and my husband it was important to stay at home and be with the kids. Atleast until they reach school age . Also financially it makes zero sense to go to work have someone else raise your kids to turn around and give that person most of your paycheck bc daycare is extremely expensive. I also worked in daycare when I was 18 yrs old for a couple of years and I promise you the kids are not getting the one on one attention they need and deserve in daycare! The whole system is messed up. It designed very badly. Women instinctually should be at home men are the providers . Women care or the family by cooking cleaning raising kids, the men are the warriors we need to go out in the world and bring home the bacon. Call me old fashioned . But the system is messed up bc they want women to have the babies , raise the babies and work?! No thats too much and in my honest opinion its not the way god intended. There is a reason women are soft and nurturing...so we can raise kids...there is a reason me are tougher so they can go outband kill the prey so we can eat! Stay at home moms dont get the respect they deserve. People think we do one load of laundry and call it a day they have no clue unless they are a stay at home mom too. I work now that my kids. Are older but definately not when they are babies!

The only time I listen podcasts on 1.5x or so is when it's something I have to listen to for work, and I'm only looking for a general idea of what they're talking about.
I used to listen at 0.75 much more often, when I'd put on a long science podcast to get to sleep. I've realised since then that the sleep quality is always worse if I'm listening or watching right as I go to sleep, so I don't do that either anymore. Barely use the speed button on my podcast app nowadays!

Professionnel attire: Boardroom meetings are still formal in my sector. No semi casual with an annual meeting with shareholders either. Also depends on their country. Turkey, boardroom meetings are formal. (Corporate big companies especially). For big meetings or seminars or conferences my suitcase is on wheels, easy to for mobility. No satchel. As for family, it is the environment i grew up in, in the traditional sense. I still value traditions today. I love the housewife option, too, with children if possible. I love the aspect of looking after my children & husband. Being their refuge. Working mothers are also good. It's about circumstances & individual choice. Remote work, if possible, is a practical solution too if set up properly, structured.
