I'm so old, I remember the switch to their Hollow Crown sound being controversial.
That was the album where i fell in love with them
Hell, there was controversy when they changed the intro to “Dismemberment” from the EP to Nightmares
Same bro same
Same
Which is insane because it's probably their best album.
Imagine if they brought back some of those mathcore style riffs from the first 2 records in the next record? It’d be absolute madness.
They won't. Sincerely or not, it doesn't pay the bills like BMTH arena stuff does.
Josh is great but he's no Tom. The synergy between Tom and Sam was something else which is gone now unfortunately.
Every Architects song is great. Doesn't matter if there's heavy ass complex riffing or not.
this
Lost Forever/Lost Together have the best riffs
You are extremely correct
period
Definitely their best release
Broken Cross riff fucking slaps!
@@chalksmiles4036 bluck yeah, that was the first song that really got me into them
It baffles me how you're not blowing up already.
Loving the content, the ideas and your style. Keep up, can't wait for you to make it big!
Thank you!! Much appreciated
Latest album did hit #1 on iTunes which is pretty cool. I've been showing FTTWTE to a lot of my normie friends. Same thing with the ERRA self-titled because both are just such fucken quality.
Absolutely love this series can’t wait for more 🤘🔥
Love it man, can't believe I didn't listen to the old Architects before. But you showed me the way!
Very different sounds as the songwriter passed away.. RIP TOM 🙏
Both, new and old Architects are insane. Your cover too btw, thank you for this nice video
This series is so great! Cannot wait for more!
The episode I was waiting for!
Mate these videos gonna have you blowing up. The content is brilliant and the skill superb.
Every Architects record deserves to be spun! 🤘 Great work dude such an awesome video!
Their first 2 albums hold up surprisingly well. Very old school noisecore. Would jam that any day over the new album. They need to utilise Josh Middleton's skill more.
Skilled guitar parts doesn’t equal good ones. Unless you’re some metalcore elitist who don’t know shit about feel.
Completely agree. The new album was so forgettable for me. It was difficult even getting through that slog of a bloated album. I mean for an arena rock album it's fine. I get why people like it. But as an Architects fan it was so disappointing. They've got one of the best guitarists in the game and he just played power chords for an hour on the new record.
@@stannats1493 You've clearly never listened to Sylosis then lmao. Josh is an absolute riff beast.
Also, feel? Well yeah, the new album doesn't "feel" very good to me. Fine if you like it. I don't. It's not terrible, just very mid imo.
@@jacksonislegend I agree. It's probably my least favourite album of theirs. It just feels kinda bland. Besides that, the mix isn't great.
@@KhaosKontroller sylosis have about as much feel in their music as a pebble lmao. A prime example of why complex music doesn’t mean good music
In the Desert will always be my favorite song by them Nightmares is also my favorite album by them that album help inspire me and influence my lyrics and guitar playing. Amazing band.
Love the concept and the video production, keep them coming man!
Right on! Thank you!
I'm glad I found this channel
AMAZING ! I vote for the best metal video of 2021 (really). Jared dines like video haha😁Great idea, great video, great tuning, great meme, and great moustache ! Love it dude !
Haha! Yes! Thank you very much
Nooooice man, I like your style!
It's good to see someone acknowledges the existence of Nightmares as an album. Since it's the only one didn't have Sam as the vocalist everyone just kinda ignores it. (Hollow Crown is still the best)
Btw, great video.
Hell yesssss I asked for this, good job man.
The new Blergh fans don't know about Nightmares and Ruin.
I became a die hard fan in the AOGHAU era and that album is still arguably my favourite album of all time. LF//LT, Daybreaker, Hollow Crown and Ruin are also flawless masterpieces, not a fan of the vocals on Nightmares cos it’s not Sam and I’m not really a fan of the new album overall however there are good tracks, it’s just quite soft and the riffs aren’t the best, which is ridiculous because Josh is a monster on guitar, especially in Sylosis.
Quality content my man. Instant sub right here from Sweden. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Nice video like always!
Architects has become one of my favorite bands and I find their riffs the most addictive and catchy. I have had the Abbey Road album in my head for two months. I swear I woke up with some song in my head morning after morning, to the point of driving me crazy. No other band had this effect on me before.
tapping at the end of "The Darkest Tomb" gets me every time
old Architects is everything
Love this!!!!
Sick vid bro
Great channel here. Very well done man. I subscribed. 😉👍
Thank you! I appreciate it
That's the first time I've seen someone doing pinch harmonics with their pinky, you've got skills man!
I remember jamming the absolute hell out of Nightmares in middle school. I was originally taken aback by their shift in style going forward, but I quickly came to love it just as much. I still go back to appreciate the older albums because they hold up so well.
Love these vids bro
Beartooth got a new album coming out soon should give them a try :D
Cool video (I skipped all the new riffs tho). Do BTBAM!
I haven’t looked back through your videos, but you should do parkway drive
Nightmares and Ruin are gems!
riffs get better! could you do while she sleeps?
Yes! :)
I like the idea! I see they have album coming in a couple weeks
@@ThomasHogue new while she sleeps is so good. I saw them on their first United States tour with parkway drive. And I was like who the hell is while she sleeps. Damn did they blow me away
@@centralia83 Hell yeah! They are a band I've heard of but not really checked out besides the Oli Sykes feature. Definitely want to now
Dude post more vids. You will grow insanely fast. Don’t give in. Coming from someone fighting the same battle.
Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, it can feel like a grind sometimes haha
The transition from They'll be hanging us nothing to Libertine tore my head off
Love the set up. Please do August Burns Red at some point.
This feels weird to me as someone who only got into them through FTTWTE. I love that album despite what others might say. Eventually got around to checking out their entire discography and my favourite album is probably LF/LT or Holy Hell. Didn’t really like Classic Symptoms when it came out but it’s only been a couple of months and I guess I’ll just learn to appreciate over time. Anyway, I’m about to see them live for the first time and judging by the setlists from the previous nights, it’s going to be a blast!!!
Insane how much they have matured over the years
Awww man soo long since i listened to Nightmare... I forgot how good that melodic section was on the darkest tomb. Think 'mindsweeper' and something like 'they'll be hanging us,' where utter filth too. It's amazing how thier sound has evolved from thier debut LP, been a fan since the beginning. Still think they sort of peaked with Hollow Crown, and then again with Holly Hell. But the stuff in between was overally very tidy. :) can dig most of thier songs.
I know they didn't really blow until much later, but Hollow Crown is still their best from a pure riff perspective.
I think it’s some of their most technical riffs, but idk about best. Doomsday and Gravedigger are iconic IMO.
Awesome stuff man! Hey, what kind of DAW do you use for recording and do you use the same or something else for drums? :)
Thanks! I use Cubase but I actually send the tracks to my friend to mix. He uses Reaper with Steven Slate Drums for the final sound
Never listened to those first two albums tbh. Those riffs are sick af
Bullet For My Valentine then VS now next plz.
One of my favorite bands! But I don't know if it is fair with gravity haha
@@ThomasHogue shocking album :/
The Darkest Tomb is just to tasty!
i love both these albums in their own way, i dont think you can even compare the two, they're almost entirely different genres
Ohh wait...look I think they wear the same glasses. Maybe they are siblings...and who is holding the camera..whether there are triplets?? we'll never find out...but love how these guys are play guitar 👍
happy Easter
love that little addition of the mustache 😂
Old school Architects is so much satisfying. Modern metal riffs are great too!
The fact Nightmares sounds more feral and wicked, despite being in drop C, really says about the matter of technique over tone
First three albums were my favorite in hs man, the ones that came out in my early to mid 20s were good also but I think for me their peak was AOGHAU.
Ruin will always be my favourite. It's mad to think uts nearly 20 years old
I love it all, LF//LT is my favorite album though
this video was filmed for so long that you managed to grow a mustache)
Nightmare the best. No doubt
They beautiful alllll... just created in different styles and now with more melodical )
Bro which amps/plugins do you use?
MANY OF US MISS THE OLD ARCHITECTS, THE BEST ARCHITECTS ALBUM WILL ALWAYS BE HOLLOW CROWN 😎
is follow the water outro just darkest tomb on ez mode ?
I love their newest album but for some reason i never really listened to anything before Holy Hell and it seems im missing some great stuff
You're missing Tom's Architects. The Architect himself. The stuff they released without him are pretty okay but the other albums are on another level. I recommend listening from hollow crown to All Our Gods ... and then you listen to the early Architects.
Seriously, do a listen through Daybreaker, LF//LT and finish with All Our Gods. Those are THE "Architects" albums in my opinion. The older albums are still great, but even the band themselves admitted that they were just copying other metalcore bands with their sound.
Huh after reading the comments I'm kinda baffled there's like no love for the new album at all. I think they did a great job with it.
here me out, you should do one of Motionless In White!
Yes!
oh i miss these HC riffs style :'(
If there was ever any more proof needed that nightmares is the goat
Thomas do you do all the programming for the drums and bass?
Yes!
@@ThomasHogue impressive. I need to step up my drum programming.
Do one for ERRA!!
Yes! This is on my list want to do it soon
Nightmares is a fucking beast! I do love all Architects though! 🤘
Why only first and last albums?
fuckin cool!!!!!!!!!!
architects went from the dillinger escape plan to bring me the horizon.......
twin or montage ?
Do one for Korn ?
Definitely want to at some point!
That moustache took 15 years to grow
Reckoning that there's 2 different lead guitarists now :(
They just get different as the band ages.
nah they got different when their main songwriter and guitarist died sadly, and not in a good way : /
I will definitely stay with Nightmares it has a lot of power and energy, don't forget of Hollow Crown a super album not to say of Ruin that they are also very complete not to mention the last album and penultimate they are already very forced to release albums they don't put more riffs or head unfortunately they are no longer the same 😢😢😢 Nothing to release
Black lungs is basically Worship Decay by Sylosis 😝
Do underOATH they used to be heavy asf
Tom had some of the best riffs rip
This boils down to RIP Tom
I love Tom, but that’s not why they changed and got softer. Josh Middleton is a better guitarist and plays heavier shit than what architects was. They’re just evolving, that’s all
@@centralia83 I mean I think it’s more about not wanting to continue writing the same formulaic albums. Cause holy hell was so fucking formulaic. The new album has no format really and a lot more variation. Also that Sam would rather not have to scream his throat out night after night anymore which is more than fair enough
@@stannats1493 he’s still screaming, he’s just doing more cleans. And there is definitely a formula to the new album. Every song practically has the same structure. Intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, outro. But I have no complaints about that, there is nothing wrong with structure in songs. I know some people complain about songs having 3 choruses because they say it’s too repetitive. But when ya do huge choruses like they do, it’s pretty normal to do 3 choruses. That’s how it gets stuck in your head, and it gives a chance for the crowd to sing along to the songs more
Not really, they changed their sound about 3 times with tom. Let's not act like anything after nightmares an ruin sounded like nightmares or ruin.
The here an now? Lost together? All our gods?
They've been getting more formulaic well before Tom passed.
@@crowing3886 lmao formulaic doesn’t mean not being an over techy twat. Their old music is just as formulaic as the albums after because it’s trying incredibly hard to copy and replicate one sound.
people always think it's just some pretentious elitist mindset but I really think it's a shame they only really made one album like Nightmares. That album has a very unique thing going on for me. The influences are apparent, Dillinger Escape Plan etc, but they delivered it with such paranoid unsettling vibe. Plus them being British they were really one of the only bands around playing in that style and they quickly veered away from it.
Tough one when comparing Tom to new people
THEN 100%
the riffs just get better
More generic
Missed all the good riffs in between lol
Their older works definitely had more technical guitar riffs with various different techniques, while the new album is much simpler, but feels broken up into more digestible musical phrases. In my personal opinion I feel like some of the Holy Hell and All our Gods riffs had the best mix between, but all are good in my opinion.
The new album is their nickelback entry.
@@bvlthvzvr Funny you should say that, I definitely got serious vibes of some of Nickelback's hard rock stuff (like Feed The Machine) on this album, along with some other similar bands like Skillet, Breaking Benjamin, etc.
Animals !,,!
It pains me to see a 7-string in an Architects themed video
Nightmares is easily the best Architects album, I will gladly die on this hill
The riffs got significantly worse. This new album absolutely shit the bed in my opinion but I also know a lot of other people loved it. I think for me it's just that I went into it hoping for more Architects and what I got was like a watered down arena rock album. It's not bad, it's just not my thing. The old riffs were so sick and the new album is mostly just power chords.
They went full Parkway Drive Reverence on it 😑
They've never had riffs that beat nightmares or ruins.
Ever since they "brought the heavy back" after The Here and Now they've basically been a watered down version of their former selves. A lot of derivative riffs that seem to all sound like other bands ripping them off. This new sound makes me sad and nostalgic for the early days.
Jep, not a single interesting riff in sight on the new album.
Sorry but
Old Architects >>>> New Architects
For Those That Wish to Exist is a guitar masterpiece!
This is a humor video right
I try
Only the finest, highbrow humor out there.
Absolutely no disrespect whatsoever to the late Tom Searle, but I personally favor Josh Middleton's writing on Holy Hell and FTTWTE. Much more polished and cohesive.
Interesting thing is that several of the riffs on Holy Hell were Tom's and only the band really know who's riff is who's. Personally prefer the riffs in LT//LF & AOGHAU but FTTWTE is still a belter.
New riffs seem like tough guy vibes. 🤷♂️
New album has nothing. You’ve literally played all the riffs on the whole album in this video. The rest is just power chords. As a guitarist who’s into bands like architects for the awesome riffs etc this has literally nothing. Even the here and now has 5 times as many awesome riffs than this record. Gave it another listen today as I’m seeing them live next week and even “heavy” songs like Impermanence are just power chords and 0000’s
METALCORE ➡️ ELECTRO ROCK AND ELECTRO POP.
Long road from awesome riffs to boring sh*t. Same story with almost all metalcore bands of 2010s.
Yep. Its sad that boring riffs gets them more money and more recognition
