Can't forget about Don't Close Your Eyes! Honestly love everything they've put out.....and impatiently awaiting a new album. Nice vid! Loved the Romance is Dead part lol
KWAS is my ZEN album. If i'm super stressed or anxious, I put in ear buds, close my eyes and usually within the first minute of Gimme AD im fully relaxed.
When it comes to riffs I think Horizons was their peak, but the amazing atmosphere on Atlas pushes it to #1 for me. I enjoy parts of Ire and Reverence for what they are, anthem metal which still features my favorite metal vocalist. Their solos and the more melodic aspects of their sound rly improved there (like in A Deathless Song and Chronos). All in all, Jeff and Luke are rly versatile and know how to execute many different styles.
As much as people talk about atmosphere in metal bands I don't like hearing it, it's the very definition of selling out, basically stripping out the flesh out of the music for catchy pauses and manufactured atmospheric sounds, it's like drifting into house music and such.
@@NightElveee they sold out since the beginning lol, they're a metalcore band, if you dont like their new stuff it's ok, but saying it's a sell out makes no sense, it's not like they started playing depressive suicidal black metal and now they play rock
I prefer Killing With A Smile BUT I think Chronos is one of the best songs they've ever recorded, and Reverance is still great as a Black-album style album. Miles better than Ire imo.
Man, that just makes me so freakin sad. I don't mean it in a bad way, it's a great video. I just freakin love old PWD, they were one of the reasons I picked up music and guitar in the first place. This new stuff is just... not inspired. I know it's very subjective, but that's the way I feel. Anyhow, thanks for the great vid Thomas!
they're straight up dad rock now. but, they're maturing and getting older, and to be fair are probably sick of writing the same stuff. plus they're making BANK now, so from a marketing perspective it was a wise move. doesn't change the fact that it bores the absolute shit out of me.
They are still great and put on a great show (you know...those things we use to go to), but killing with a smile is a damn near perfect album. Honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. Great playing too, really enjoyed it 👍🏻
I saw them in San Diego several years ago and that was Top 10 one of the best shows I've ever been to. It was in an over crowded and over sold venue in the middle of August so inside the venue we were told it was 120° with all those bodies packed together. My clothes were literally drenched in sweat from me and others around me, like it looked like I jumped into a pool with my clothes on. I ended up getting a bloody nose from all the heat too lol and I don't think I've ever been so exhausted after a show either
Maybe going against the grain here, but Reverence hits harder lyrically and is a very meaningful album with sweet grooves. The earlier albums are definite bangers, no doubt. But musically it's very immature, fun, but immature :D
Yeah! Agree with folks 100%. Killing with a Smile, Horizons and Deep Blue are hands down their best albums and iconic albums for all Metalcore as a genre.
I know their newer stuff sounds thicker with more chuggs, but I wish they'd use some of thier older punk/hardcore roots again, those riffs were beautiful from KWAS, Horizons, Deep Blue, and Atlas
Killing with a Smile may have more complex and interesting riffs, but I still prefer Reverence, mainly due to the fantastic songwriting on that album. It’s one of the few cases of a metalcore band simplifying their sound while still remaining heavy and writing fantastic songs in the process. With KWAS, I can barely tell most of the songs apart from each other, due to them all being in the same key. Though I get why many people prefer those type of PD riffs over the stuff they put out today. It’s So Hard to Speak Without a Tongue is very underrated in their discography.
Why do I feel like PWD's albums energy is maturing right before my eyes with this video...like it's like watching a rowdy teenager vs a mature adult...aging like fine wine if you ask me
I love all the PwD stuff. The old PwD is better and their new stuff is acceptable, mainly Ire as Winston's best vocal performance IMO. Atlas feels weak but not bad. Overall great band. Btw excellent video. That Romance is Dead part killed me XD.
bro definitely, their new stuff is still acceptable. even that i still preferer the old one like kwas and horizons, but damn they still made some good music tho
Since Misery they really haven't had a guitarist or real riffs, mostly midi and studio fill ins. Plus, nobody likes working with Ahren and Joel (for good reason) so they've had such an above average flow of band members so (imo) comparing ST with whatever they're newest release is wouldnt be right. The only two core members of the band dont even play instruments (Ahren plays bass could he couldn't do anything else).
This video is depressing ASF!!!! I remember my facial reaction when I could play Romance is dead complete on my guitar, Hope they go back to their roots.
Not gunna lie, I liked Horizons more than Killing with a Smile. Their latest album was kind of a disappointment for me. Their style changed in a way that didn't click with me as much after Atlas
Been a PWD fan since they started. All of their albums absolutely bang but Reverence hits in a way that the others doesn't. It's just amazing. Thematically brilliant. Each song could stand on its own. Personal favourites are In Blood, Chronos and I Hope You Rot. Were all here though because we love pwd!
I agree... maybe as far as the guitar work it hits as more power than metal core, but the whole reverence album taken as one artistic piece carries so much raw emotion that it is kind of separate from most of their other work.
All those super At the Gates worship style bands really had their hayday in the mid 2000's and tbh I still dig that sound!, I feel like when the bands drifted away from just being AtG clones they just became so blah lol Not bad but just doesn't connect like those faux melodeath riffs did back then haha
Killing With a Smile and Horizon album was the two albums that I started to cover in my early metal bands before grew into death metal later.. but I am not a fan of Parkway Drive's album after Horizon.. felt like more hardcore oriented to me
It's just no contest - seems to be the case with 9/10 big metalcore acts that they've dumbed and slowed down since the middle of the 2010s. One black album was enough tbh
Killing with a Smile still bangs. Classic metalcore album. I think Horizons was their peak honestly, but I also adore Deep Blue and Atlas.
Nailed it.
Horizons is my favorite too!
From a guitarwork standpoint, no doubt horizons
@@homerdj0nt
Horizons: most complex Parkway Drive album
Parkway Drive: *only plays the easiest songs live*
Horizons a melodic metalcore masterpiece
Definitely more of a fan of their first few albums, their first album holds up even today.
Killing With a Smile is a metal guitarist dream album. Relentless Riffs from start to finish
Second this
Definitely
Killing with a Smile is such a masterpiece, I definitely prefer their older stuff
The riff he played in Pandora is definitely one of my favorite Parkway Drive riffs of all time
Pandora breakdown is so good as well.
Totally agree
That closeup during the silent "Romance" callout was perfect! haha and I love how both "guys" play the ensuing breakdown. Who can resist that song?
I love old school metalcore, but I just can't get over what a masterpiece Absolute Power is!!! Love that riff and those lyrics
Man I just discovered your channel, your battle concept with the oldest and newest album from a band is awesome ! Keep going man you rock !
Much appreciated, glad you like it! Thanks!
My favorite riff from that album is definitely the main one from A Cold Day in Hell, but the whole album is riff city
Can't forget about Don't Close Your Eyes! Honestly love everything they've put out.....and impatiently awaiting a new album. Nice vid! Loved the Romance is Dead part lol

KWAS was definitely my favorite album by them. Probably one of the most iconic metalcore albums of all time, in my opinion.
Agreed!
I prefer Killing With A Smile BUT I think Chronos is one of the best songs they've ever recorded, and Reverance is still great as a Black-album style album. Miles better than Ire imo.
Facts
I didn't like reverance but I do agree with chronos being one of the best songs they've ever made
I liked some songs if reverence, didn't like others... but Chronos is definitely up their with their best songs
Chronos is the absolute most beautiful song they've written. It makes me emotional and I don't know why.
Chronos is good but yikes it's not even their top 10 boys. A deathless Song is what you meant to say instead of Chronos...
Thanks man! I tend to agree compared to their early/middle albums
I have no idea what Winston was thinking on Reverence with the constant gruff talking thing he was doing.
they're straight up dad rock now. but, they're maturing and getting older, and to be fair are probably sick of writing the same stuff. plus they're making BANK now, so from a marketing perspective it was a wise move. doesn't change the fact that it bores the absolute shit out of me.
I would love for them to remaster the sound of both KWAS and Horizons. It would sound EPIC
I have noticed the new pwd album really loves playing the low E 3rd frett note in their songs which i love the theme. It gives the album a theme
What’s interesting to see is that now the current Australian metal bands are Polaris, in hearts wake northlane thornhill etc
Been with them since I was 12, I'm starting to push 30 now but they still making shit I adore. Great vid
I love heavy metal & melodic metal as much as the next person but melodic metalcore will always reign supreme.
Killing with a Smile is my favorite metalcore album
Your concept of the video and your guitar skills deserve more views and recognitions! Keep going boi!!
The diet in the end was genius man, great video, great techniques 🔥🔥
It's hard to speak without a tongue is a really underrated song and this video shows it : (
That double kick lead riff here was epic
Great job!! 😁
I would love to hear one last rly fast and more complex album from PWD... 😕
Would love to see an Every Time I Die video like this.
They are still great and put on a great show (you know...those things we use to go to), but killing with a smile is a damn near perfect album. Honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. Great playing too, really enjoyed it 👍🏻

Deep Blue is my personal favorite. Fucking love karma
end of the video was a great touch!
Yeah! Agree with folks 100%. Killing with a Smile, Horizons and Deep Blue are hands down their best albums and iconic albums for all Metalcore as a genre.
Left = everyone's favorite person at the party
Right = drooling all over yourself watching teletubbies
Was waiting for this one! Nice video!
Romance is dead is my favourite of all time.
I grew up listening to Parkway drive in early 2000's and it's all good.
they definitely had some of the sickest breakdowns ever
I know their newer stuff sounds thicker with more chuggs, but I wish they'd use some of thier older punk/hardcore roots again, those riffs were beautiful from KWAS, Horizons, Deep Blue, and Atlas
Great vid brudduh

Would love Skindred, Make Them Suffer or Stray From The Path
You've just evidenced the devolution of metalcore over a 15 year span in 5 quick minutes
Yup
Totally fucking on point
I don't know man, I don't see anything wrong with Reverance... Darker Still on the other hand...
How does this not have more views?
Awesome playing man! 😉👍
you keep popping up in my recommended so i've officially been forced to subscribe, love the content
Great video, the comparison made me kinda sad tho :D
Killing with a smile came out in 2005 M8!
Oops! So it did. I blame Spotify
🤘 love it man!
Prefer the later Albums But Love all of them. Great Job dude
Those first few albums man. Yo any recommendations to bands with similar style to killing with a smile, deep blue ?
Bottom feeder still is a beat tho
Why do I feel like PWD's albums energy is maturing right before my eyes with this video...like it's like watching a rowdy teenager vs a mature adult...aging like fine wine if you ask me
Killing with a smile is for sure their best album

3:54 best part of the video
I love Parkway Drive, best music for lifting at the gym🤣
Catchy and heavy at once, I just love it...
What a timeless set of riffs. everyone of them still hits me with the same impact they did the first time i heard them
i really hope you have sent this to video to Jeff Ling.
Liked em then. Love em now.
God I love Reverence. And I love all of Parkway. They're the best.
You sound great! What gear do you use to record and jank?
What a beautiful man... I mean um... uh... those riffs tho👀
Next The Amity Afiliction

They haven't changed a hell of a lot.
Old Parkway Best Parkway. It just shreds
This video is depressing ASF!!!! I remember my facial reaction when I could play Romance is dead complete on my guitar, Hope they go back to their roots.
There’s something special in the water in Byron Bay.
Nice quality
They where a different more screamo back then now they have matured into metal and are crazy successful due to it
The new Sound is more rock than Metal.
flawless riffing bruv, def need 2 work/drop an EP when ya find time. ur 2dayum good not2 start ur own music projects sir
Thanks! I am also in an original metalcore band Seven Cities Dead
Not gunna lie, I liked Horizons more than Killing with a Smile. Their latest album was kind of a disappointment for me. Their style changed in a way that didn't click with me as much after Atlas
It’s crazy you and your twin are both killers on guitar
KWAS came out in 2005 - The aussie version, which is the only one to listen to.
Aussie Aussie 🎉
we all knew on romance of death what to say ,your face said it to
Australia represent! 🇦🇺🤘🏻
Okay so you should this again but with Horizons and whatever album they’re about to crap out now
Last part made me laugh but you're not wrong lol
well looks like this video now needs to be updated
loved them then, love them now. They are by far my most favorite metalcore band to listen to.
Got a little blue balled at the end there

@@dallasreynolds2962 couldn't have said it better myself man.
Deffinatly miss old parkway. And they must he the only band not have at least a single dropped in 3 years!
Definitely overdue!
Their newer stuff is textbook example of dad metal.
Reverence puts me to sleep :( but it’s just not my cup of tea.. sucks.. they were my fav band. Hope to say that again soon
All those super At the Gates worship style bands really had their hayday in the mid 2000's and tbh I still dig that sound!, I feel like when the bands drifted away from just being AtG clones they just became so blah lol Not bad but just doesn't connect like those faux melodeath riffs did back then haha
Yeah. Maybe it's derivative but dammit it sounds good! I'm a sucker for a good harmonized riff
Ahhhh nothing hits like romance
Now the left dude got a moustache too
Disagree with all the hate on new parkway. Their new stuff and old stuff is all amazing. My favorite band of all time
I prefer the old PWD
The first album was the best !

PWAYD will always be my fav. Been the biggest fan since 06. Last album is the worst in my opinion
Killing with a Smile > Reverence
I think older PWD's riffs were far more creative and melodic, much more emotion and not so stadium rock'ish.
Haha. Perfect ending
KILLING WITH A SMILE > ANY PARKWAYDRIVE ALBUM
CHANGE MY MIND
Now is their shit
Pwd 2006!
Their first album is actually DONT close your eyes.
Riffs are hard when you don't groom your nails.
Don't close your eyes...
THEN > NOW
Metalcore to more groove/rock based stuff
"Then" so much better
