I'm new to the channel. Awesome to see an interviewer that has actual FULL knowledge of what's going on, and carries on the interview with pure flow. Zero dull moments. Love this!
Anyone noticed how as as soon as the Bass Guitar got picked up the whole interaction vibe changed?I'm not a bass player but it was very interesting to see how engaging everyone got about the profiles etc...also take on Nolly's philosophy, bass is so underrated considering its the backbone of all if not most instruments.
I really wish there was a bit more structure to the interviews, just a checklist of questions that they ask as standard. What tunings, string gauge etc. its hit and miss as to which ones they ask. What string gauges on the basses? and the tuning etc. I assume that it mirrors the guitar tuning but would be nice to ask
@@stevenmayes2260 The accent thing does happen when you spend a lot of time with people who have different accent, not completely replaces one but it sort of blends
Love that Adam is basically wearing winter clothing while Perry is in shorts and short sleeves with sweat marks 😂 Jokes aside, i always go back to this video because its so awesome!
That LsL is gnarly, it's cool to see something unique/original being played by heavier artists. I just wish they used real amps so things weren't overly sterilized. I tried going the Kemper route, I gave it a year, wasn't for me. Went back to my Friedman's and 4x12, It feels like rock and roll again.
The way architects tune their guitars isnt a new thing zakk wylde would have his guitar tuned to standard on all his over strings but the low string is tuned to B its not something you see a lot anymore so it's cool to see bands still doing it
I've seen that Radial JX44 on a lot of big touring rigs, but still don't quite understand how it can be programmed. There is a programmable switch sold separately which they don't seem to be using, but the JX44 also doesn't seem to have any sort of MIDI control either, so how are they doing it if the guitar tech is out at the front also playing?
This is the thing I don't understand either. In terms of midi control, Even Tom's original board didn't have any of his strymons plugged into their midi inputs and he didn't even use a midi controller. I've seen a picture of him with a looper/switcher on the floor in front of his board once, but still without midi control. It just doesn't make sense unless they're just manually banking up on the strymons but why would they have the looper/switcher without midi and why the JX44? There's just something that doesn't add up here.
wolfhorsky I watched this with a sense of dichotomy: torn between really liking the guitarist and his guitars and really not liking the distortion and tone.
They could of been the best but they decided to change. Architects did the same, as much as we dont like to admit it. They both went 'soft' around the same time. But I feel like Thrice were wrong for the switch and Tom, dare I say, naive into following the trend... Obviously Tom listened to the fans and went back to the roots.
One thing I'm still confused about: how does a 27.5inch scale guitar hold a low F# with good tension with a .72 gauge string?? With my 7 string with a 27inch scale, I need an 80 gauge for a low F# for it not to feel floppy, it's just tension-y enough to feel solid. I don't feel like that extra .5inch on the scale would compensate that much for a .72 gauge string to have equal tension, unless I'm totally wrong. Based on a string tension calculator I've used, it would still feel floppier than my setup; a .72gauge on a 27.5inch scale would still be a little light. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would love to hear others' experiences with how they handle low tunings and record tight heavy rhythm guitars.
@@KevinDubois ah good ol' multiscales, thinking of getting one soon myself, I feel like guitar companies need to make more baritone 7 strings without the multiscale.
@@antenna7002 yeah, I would totally buy longer scale 7 strings, it would really help with tuning issues and not having to buy insanely thick strings haha
Youre looking for something around 130-65, many brands make a 4 string heavy set like that(ernie ball,dr,cleartone). Or just get your favorite brands 5 string set and only use the heavies four. You will definitely need a setup, probably need to adjust the trussrod and intonation, and you might need a new nut too, good luck!
Definitely. If you listen to the vast majority of Holy Hell, Lost Forever... and All Our Gods it figures that they would need to. When I saw them live in Brighton so many of their intros in particular feature electronic-y/ atmospheric sounds that can't be produced live. That said, Ali (bassist) has recently started using sample pads up there and kudos must go to the two guitarists because they do produce a lot of the more atmospheric pad sounds live on guitar. It's a mixture I guess, but if you listen to their last three albums, it makes sense for them to use a click.
Its not a radical tunining, mastodon also uses it. I thonk black sabbath even had tunes in c# standard. Sikth are great but they by no means started a tunning.

Most enthusiastic and interesting PG interviewer
Chris Couldn’t agree more!
Architects is my favorite band. I’ve been waiting for this forever. I can die happy now.
Set it to .75 speed for a normal conversation

It went straight from Cocaine to weed, haha.

God that roasted maple with Ebony fret is gorgeous !!
thanks lol
I’m thinking the trend is starting to be more roasted maple neck and fret board instead of ebony fret board!!
this is what its like when I hear two mechanics talking about my car
Even though this is a year old, I have never been more educated about gear tuning and what to look into when doing lower tuning as well
I always like when this guy does interviews because he clearly cares and is knowledgeable about gear

The low end in that sound system in the intro was nuts.
1:38 "I love that" haha shade to all the 7,8,etc string players they've interviewed before
One of my favorite bands and they have an amazing sound system
I’m with both of these guys, there are lots of great sounding 7 & 8 strings but there is just something special about the sound of low tuning on a 6.
Great interview. It is sad Tom wasn't able to do this though :(
I legit checked if I had the video on 1.25x lol
Awesome video
...also praise the Nolly!
As a 20+year guitar player...
Those Dingwalls and the Mayones Jabba were by far the nicest instruments showcased
So sick dude. I love how it sounds when they chug those top 2 strings in the tuning they're in
Didn't know Josh is getting a baby haha, super happy for the guy.
Too bad they didn't show the drum kit and synth pads, but it was really cool to get a look at the guitars
I mean its Premier Guitar why would they go into anything but guitars?

This rig rundown is fantastic. Id love to see Rundowns on Radiohead, 30 Seconds to Mars, Orgy and Julien K! PG does amazing work!!!

Those ESP are amazing! Love to use the Architect's tuning in my guitars
What string gauge r u using on this tuning?
What guitar model do you use and what string gauge?
I dont even play guitar but here I am.
Leopoldo Gonzalez lol
Why not start?
I love their tuning. I use a similar tuning on my PRS 277. Great rundown. 👍
I loved that show. Hopefully we showed them Nashville loves them.
Awesome rig rundown, been waiting for this one. Love the thrice nod too "best band". Know Sam Carter is a massive fan too 👌👌
Love how you can tell the British accent has been rubbing off on him a bit 😂

imo the only band together with northlane that can tune down to spaghetti and still make it sound musical non generic and interesting
I agree. But I also throw loathe in there.
Those three are my top tier of djent of all time(well technically architects call themselves post-metalcore, I consider them Djent since Hollow Crown)
silent planet too! they've got some songs in f# and g
Can I please add Polaris to this?! Their songs are tuned way down past A#/B and their melodies are sick.
True that my dude
Primitive Man and Big Brave are in your neck of the woods touring together...they’d be great bands to do a rundown with.
