    In the late 90s during high school Brian Welch was a personal hero of mine and inspired me to play guitar. It broke my heart when he left KoRn, but the fact that he did it to clean himself up and now he’s just so energetic and full of life again makes me so happy. So many great musicians pass on early because of overdose or suicide. The fact KoRn is still going strong, I’m very proud of these guys.
    I never got to superstar status but I at least got good enough where I’ve been in some great bands and got to play some large shows. Times I will never forget, now I’m just an average working stiff but I still write and play music as a hobby.

    You look at the pedalboard of this guys and I saw the pedal board of Tom Morello in this channel as well. You hear the sounds they make and you imagine this U2 Edge kind of complicated rag and then realize is mainly a few very old, simple, cheap pedals and a lot of fun and creativity with them. This guys of Korn may not be the best players out there but they definitely set up a very define style and sound that inspire thoundsends over the year. Yet another example of "is not what you have but what you do with it" Good for them.

    it always somewhat surprised me that their guitars never sported active EMG pickups instead of your standard passive pickups. Especially because they tune a whole step down. I think the reason why I've always wondered this mainly because I recall an article where they described how muddy their heavy tones were to record during the first record, and that was essentially attributed to the pickup technology not being where it needed to decrease the mud in the signal.

    As a long time fan and equally guitar nerdy as them Thing I like most about their guitar sound is that Korn's tone has a certain growl to it that some folks tuning lower don't even get.

    • @northtimo666
      @northtimo666 3 года назад

      One big key to that growl is using whammy pedal’s -1 octave setting and having that track in the center of the records. It is hilariously low, but gives you that thick tone.

      Horrible pedal. Use a Tube-screamer on top of your amp gain set at about 8-9 then run the Tubescreamer or OD-808 or TS-9 with the gain set low and tone all the way up. It will give you a LOT more definition and bite. Go through a Noise suppressor into a good tube amp and you'll never need anything else distortion wise.
