I'm a huge fan of MvA, I also have a soft spot for it since 2009 ! You did show some concept art, I think it is very good to point out the artists: Sam Michlap, Tim Lam and Richard Daskas, there are tumblr posts and ArtStation posts with more of their concepts and development, a few pieces showing a manly guy with dark hair who most likely was Rex Havoc! (And of course the art book) Great little video, man!
Really? I thought this was a a bugs life antz, finding nemo shark tale situation. But I never seen anybody talking about this and monsters Inc. I actually never hear that in my life.
Monsters vs. Aliens sort of has a weird similarity with The Incredibles, where despite it not being a robot centered movie, there is a major part of the plot where a giant evil robot begins attacking a city (which is kind of funny lol).
It’s crazy how many Dreamworks movies are based on books. Yet no one knows about the source material in-spite of the movie they inspired a successes. You’d think the publishers behind them would attempt to capitalise on the success of the movies and re-publish the books to make them more accessible and lure in people who watched the movies but I guess not. All the books these Dreamworks films are based on could be an entire rabbit hole on its own…
Sometimes they do that. I remember seeing a copy of the book The Boss Baby is based on with one of those "now a major motion picture" things on the front cover.
80 percent of Disney's movies from the 30s to the 90s were VERY, VERY, VEEEEERRRYYYY loose retellings of fairytales. The others were possible rip-offs of other films, which carried on until about 2009. Kimba, Little Monsters, and Madagascar want a word.
I honestly liked the idea of the 50ft woman being our main character in a world of monsters. it reminds me of an art piece I saw with famous movie monsters. Godzilla, Gamera, King Kong, and Ultraman and standing together. and in the background, you can see the 50ft woman poking her head out from behind the monsters. while not as famous as these other monsters, she's still a well known movie giant during the big monster boom of the 1950s. If I had written the story, I would've had the other monsters as full Kaiju, and the 50ft woman was thrown into the mix. she's way smaller and much weaker than the Kaiju. this is like a cat next to a lion. you've got fire breathing mutant dinosaurs, and then you've got a giant woman. she's not expected to last long when the aliens arrive. but then she surprises everyone by doing what humans do. engineer solutions to problems. while the other monsters are using brute force to overpower the enemy, she's thinking of ways to defeat the aliens without using much effort. like Mulan causing an avalanche to bury the Hun army alive. her large sizes makes it easier to use her environment to her advantage by picking up what would be too heavy if she was still normal size, tricking the enemy into a trap rather than overpowering them. I would honestly love to see more movies of the 50ft woman earning her spot at the table with the other famous movie giants. heck, Toho has been wanting a giant woman in one of their Godzilla movies for years but never had a good reason. one of their earlier attempts was Bride of Godzilla. maybe we'll finally see a giant woman alongside Godzilla someday.

That tends to happen a lot. But what separates MvS and other examples like it is the fact that the plot of the Rex Havoc movie is almost completely identical to the final film. The movie pitch was already so far removed from the source material that all it took was a few minor tweaks to make it it's own thing.
