Spot on. I think people insensitivitly throw around multi-hundred dollar numbers in too many cinematography/photography videos for components that aren't absolutely essential to be that expensive.
Just got the 7artisans 25mm f1.8 E mount lens and I am wowed by the sharpness and the focus distance. The Bokeh too is so sweet. For $70 that is a monster lens.
I discovered your channel pretty late in my life and here's my conclusion: This is the most unique, beautiful and useful RUclips channel I've ever come across. Lots of love from India! ❤
Damn..... I didn’t know that lenses even existed below 100... All the other youtubers literally changed my definition of ‘cheap’.... Woah...! Great vid mate 👍🏻
Nice ive always been a big fan of all your videos but reviews of low cost lenses was what i first watched from your work. So this is extra special. Thanks Caleb
GREAT Reveiw! I have been collecting c mounts for 8 years now. C means Cine and they were used for early movies, not just 16mm. One thing: you neglected to show the swirly effects of some of these as they have uncorrected aberrations that make some portraits very interesting.
I have one of the 25mm lenses for my G80. I got it with a M4/3 adaptor and it focussed well past infinity and was therefore wasting part of its focus travel. I added two or three 0.5mm copper shims so that it now only goes a tiny bit past infinity and can focus a bit closer. These are cheap to buy on eBay.
Thanks so much for this. I just ordered my first mirrorless camera and I was dreading getting expensive lenses right away, I will have to buy used and these little suckers will give me nice creative toys to play with while I save up. Plus they are tiny so will still have usefulness when I do get bigger lenses.
wow man this is just what I needed, I was looking for some macro and some shallow depth of field but I could not afford the lenses out there but this is just fantastic 23$ on ebay and you can get both macro shots and shallow depth of field. thanks a lot this really made my day
This is a dream. I used to love shooting on my old manual lenses, I had a really nice 28mm but it was just too soft on my FS700. But I'm definitely going to pick up some of these, been desperate for a 35mm for a while! Great video. Aram
Those overhead shots are so gorgeously lit. You still rockin the westcott flex light for that setup? Would love to see an updated BTS photo or video for such a setup. As always, thanks for the great content!
I love the thought experiment, what if computers and smartphones were invented first and paper second? People would be amazed that there were devices they could read in any weather, light-condition, and lasted for centuries. These lenses are also misunderstood. They have a look that can't be obtained with "real" (expensive) lenses. That look is mesmerizing. I have a $1,500 Zeiss and a $30 version of one of these. It's hard for me to accept, but I often prefer the image out of the $30 lens. Why? They focus one's attention on the subject. Bokeh and blur make up the rest. They have a look that simply cannot be replicated with any other lens no matter what the cost. What these lenses capture is probably what your eye captures, except your brain fills in the blurry sides. They work really well on the EOS-M too, btw. Like Caleb, I find the 35mm is the sweet spot in these lenses. It gives a look you simply cannot replicate in Photoshop because even though there is a lot of blur, it IS based on focal distances a computer can't figure out from the $1,000 lens. Yes, in instagram you can get similar looks, but again, these are lot sharper and deliver very saturated images compared to a smartphone. In short, the 35mm c-mount is the most important lens I own because it challenges my presumptions about photography and art. That I don't use it more is a testament to my lack of courage because if I'm honest, they produce images I love, no matter what I point them at! Take thie following photo, $1,500 Zeiss or $30 c-mount? www.flickr.com/photos/maxotics/9754099553/in/album-72157635527242324/
I own the 25mm, it does have a unique, vintage kind of look. That makes sense right now since the faded film/vintage look is trending in photography and video.
Okay, now this is my speed. Happy to find your channel. Solid information. Thinking of buying a GH4 to replace my D3300. C mount looks to be the way to go.
I have and love (among my many manual focus lenses) a Night Hawk 80mm f/1.7 (a security camera lens) that I go for less than $40 NEW! It is a perfect focal length portrait lens for full frame cameras but, really shines as a portrait lens (especially outdoors where I need to blur the background) with a crop sensor camera like my Sony A6500.
Wow! Very nice! I'm going to get that 35mm f/1.7 for my GX8. It'll be nice for when I don't want to carry the zoom around, plus the macro capability will be fun. Thanks! (PS From a pro writer: There's no such thing as "very unique." "Unique" means one of a kind. ) (PPS Your son is so cute... handsome, even. Seems very inquisitive and active. It'll be fun to watch him grow on your vids.) :D
Hey Sully, I'd recommend the APS-C covering ones over on AliExpress (make a bundle discount offer inquiry to the store Rocks Photographic Equipment). They have a green circle on 'em and are quite a bit more refined than these (I've had these on the GH2, they're toy lenses, the 25mm f/1.4 is absolutely cringy, but the others are indeed quite alright). Then I had a whole generic APS-C set (including a 8mm f/3.8 that covers 4/3"). And now the green circle ones!
Great video! I already have the 35mm f1.7 and i didn't know about the other lenses, you should make more of this videos where you test super cheap lenses like theese (if you find any)
I own the 25mm and 35 1.7 myself. The 35 is awesome as hell. I use them on my Bmpcc and they're great but WARNING to Canon users, they do make a c mount to EF adapter however because of the flange distance it will turn your C-mount lens into a dedicated macro lens with zero ability to focus beyond an inch or so. The 25mm is a little janky and is starting to leave metal shavings everywhere but for a $20 security camera lens its still kind of rad. just be sure to have a rocket blower nearby after dismount
DSLR Video Shooter haha it's true. it makes me sad that THEY (canon) have even made this an issue for the rest of us. I will never argue with anyone that makes the switch because all of the reasons are always solid reasons. Are Canon mirrorless worth a damn? Knowing zero about them I would assume "not really-ish" since I see no one on RUclips talking about them much, but I'm curious.
Curious about this. I know Caleb used the other 35mm C-Mount with the EOS-M in another video. So is it just the 1.7 where this an issue? Or is this a C-Mount thing?
@@dslrvideoshooter In your "tiny cinema camera" video, you used the 1.6 C-Mount lens instead of the 1.7. Why would the 1.7 create a macro issue, but not the 1.6? I'm wondering because I'd like to get one of the lenses, and you recommended the 1.7 in this video over the 1.6...but if the 1.7 is unusable on an EOS M, then it's an easy choice.
There are a bit better versions on these, still affordable on AliExpress. Look for 'Green circle lens'. They're more like that 35mm you've got there, but a tad more refined overall. You can also try like looking for 'C-mount APS-C CCTV lens' or stuff like that. AE, but eBay too. I like them better than e.g. that 25mm f/1.4 shown here, that to me was the most rubbish lens I ever owned. A real 'toy lens'.
I have some very nice native E mount Fotasy lenses that are similar: 35mm F1.6 and 50mm F1.8. Both have flat focus planes and are very sharp. Here's the 35mm www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-f1-6-Lens-for-APS-C-sensor-Sony-a6300-a6000-a5100-a5000-a3500-a3000-/322003324217?hash=item4af8e4cd39:g:120AAOSwx-9Wuae8 Yep, $40 shipped.
I have had all three... the super cheap one from eBay. The 'APS-C' blacked out version from AliExpress. The 'green ring' ones. And even the Zonlai 35mm, which is already in the right mount, but probably after C-mount design. There's certainly a difference.
Shiznutsz I clicked on the link for the 35mm f1.7 but it is c mount? Will that work on the sony a6300? Or do I have to buy an adapter? Please clarify i am so confused!
How bad is the vignetting with the 25mm on the GH5s? Since the GH5s has an even wider field of view and no Ex-Tele in 4K? Could you check for me and help me out? I found a great super 16 cine lens I’d like to get along with my GH5s.
This video was so beautifully shot. I find myself admiring each shot. Caleb, how to you keep your props free of lint or dirt while you're filming? The lenses look like they've never been touched.
Also a heads up: the 35mm 1.7 here has a thread size of....35mm. I can't tell you the ridiculous trial and error I just had to go through to figure this out. So 35mm Is the filter/step up ring size you'll need for that one.
I’m buying a Sony a5100 within he next week and that is going to blow my budget and I was super disappointed because there is a few lenses I want to buy. I can now buy one or two of these to play around with while I save up for nicer lenses! Thanks!
I own the 25mm 1.4 and have used it with clear image zoom and is ok, but the fujian 35mm 1.7 is awesome, I WENT THE EXTRA MILE AND GLUED (epoxy) A 34 TO 52MM ring adapter AND I CAN ATTACH MY ND FILTERS TO IT 👌👍👐👐👐
Bastien Laure look in ebay for 34-52mm adapter ring, use clear epoxy glue to glue it, need to put adapter facing down 👇 then lens front hole inside the center of adapter (lens facing down too) apply epoxy where the lens meets the adapter, just do it on the outside, no need to risk putting glue inside and possibly glue the lens 😓, let it dry overnight and boom!! You can use filters, lens hoods and lens caps, don't forget to buy a lens cap since the lens hood and cap that come with lens won't fit anymore, you're welcome 👌👌👍👋
Bastien Laure idea is not mine, this is just the method I figured by myself, look for fujian 35mm 1.7 nd filter here in RUclips from a channel called AEG you'll see it, he just didn't do a tutorial
Is the focal length on a M43 camera like a GH5 still 25mm in a fullframe equivalent? Or is it a 50mm equivalent? Because Cleb used it on both Sony and M43
Hi. I have a Lumix G70 and I want to buy some cheap lens and I dont khow what to choose because I see 1.7 or 1.8 and I dont understand that. Do u know what size I should but that I can use without adapter? Thx for your help
The Meike and Neewer 25/0.95, 28/2.8, 35/1.7, and 50/2 are rebranded Kaxinda lenses. The Kaxinda 35 F1.7 I had didn't even seem to be as good as the Fujians reviewed here. The 50/2 is more of a 50/2.8, and fine for that. The 28/2.8 is a bit better than the cheapest 25mm C-mounts.
I see you have shields for them at 06:25. What's the size? I want to use a cpl with the 35 f1.7, but it seems smaller than any ring adapter I could find.
There's a 4/3" covering 8mm f/3.8. I believe there's also a 16mm... but that probably only covers S16 sensors like the BMPCC. You'd need to use ETC if your camera has it, but that kind of negates having a wide lens in the first place...
One thing i noticed you didnt mention in the video was that when you put these on a micro 4/3 lens they tend to double the distance. Im still new with camera stuf so i dont rwally know the technical terms but what i meant is that a 35mm lens will act a little bit more like a 50-70mm lens. Which can be something bad but you can get around it by getting a focual reducer but those can get pretty expensive. But other than that this was a great video
@Alex Ristola Not 100% sure but the flange distance of a Nikon with F-Mount is *much* larger than C-Mount cameras have. An adapter would have to have a negative length! In theory (just physics) such an adapter would be possible with active optical elements (lenses) but that would take away quality and most certainly a good adapter (i don't know if someone builds them, i haven't found any) would cost more than these lenses. It's basically the same reason why there are no Canon to Nikon (DSLR) adapters but lots of Nikon to Canon. The Canon flange distance is just higher. If you want to use inexpensive glass on Nikon F-cameras try old M42 stuff! There are active adapters which are inexpensive and lots of old M42 lenses on the market. The quality does vary a lot. Here is a good first orientation if you want to check an old lens allphotolenses.com/lenses.html
Hi Caleb, I've been using the 35 f1.7 for some time now on the 6500 and I love it, I didn't get any lens hoods options back when I bought it, however I did some simple DIY. I super glued a simple 37 to 49 filter adapter to the plastic lens cap that this lest shipped with (I cut a whole so that the thread of the adapter fits nicely in there) and then I got a generic 49mm lens hood. Everything is now nicely glued together, nothing sticks out (because the camera body adapter in the back is also wider) and it also helps with the flares, not to mention that I can now add Rubber Hoods, ND filters, all kinds of stuff to that new thread I created. Also, I want to ask about macro tubes and IBIS in general. (hypothetically) If you are using a 35mm lens and you attach tubing that extends it 10mm more, does the IBIS setting have to be at 45mm? I would love to see you do some testing and talk about this. I presonally have done loads, but I can never tell.
This video is older but extremely useful to someone like me who just ordered a Canon M camera and is awaiting delivery. I would just like to ask you about your recommendation, the Fujian 35mm 1.7. Which types of adapters can one get to use standard-sized ND filters on that one?
I know the video is kinda old. Title say it's for Sony and Panasonic. Does that mean they'll not work on my Canon M50? I've seen adapters, but wonder what problems this might cause. Too much vignetting? Thanks
Did you test or compare the transmission? I have one of the "Mini 25mm F1.8" C-mount lenses that looks like the small 35mm you have, and it exposes like an F2.8 lens. It also has an extremely curved focus plane. It is not even possible to get the corners focused at infinity.
i bought the canon eos m and the fujian 35mm 1.6, they are great thanks for your videos i love them. I'm wondering is there any cheap c-mount zoom lenses?
Hello... Are you Familiar with the beastgrip pro iPhone rig would any of these lens fit that beastgrip phone rig I’m curious becuz I’ve seen this rig with all sort of add-ons lights mics etc that people to create their photos and videos
Hi. I have a Nikon D3300 that I mostly use outside inside in low-light situations. Outside I mostly use it with people and landscapes in good lighting conditions. When using them indoor, it's to film or photograph in low-light situations with many macros. I'm having issues with digital noise with indoor shooting even at 4:00 PM. What lens do you suggest me to buy with this kind of budget? I don't have any adapter at all
Bought the 35mm F1,7, but with DSLRs they just become macro lens, so they aren't particulary useful for what I usually do (even if they're fun to play with)
Hi I'm kinda confused. I'm looking to get a c mount lens to shoot raw on the eos using the crop method so it takes the resolution from the Center so a normal lens my 18-55mm looks way to zoomed in on 18mm. If I use say a 25mm c mount lens in this mode will I get a the same FOV as If I were to use 25mm on my 18-55mm kit lens in normal photo mode.
Hi DSLR Video Shooter, after I watched this your video I went ahead and bought the 25mm F1.4 lens but I can't seem to get any visible picture on my GH5 LCD to record. All I see are blurry (bokeh-like) faint lights. I have noticed that the settings of the Panasonic GH5 is much more complicated than the Canon T4i I use to own before. I will really appreciate if you have any suggestions on how I can go about understanding how to set up the GH5 for video (cinema) shooting in general and how to set it up to shoot with native and non-native lenses like the 25mm F1.4 lens. I have read the manuals but that has been of no help.
Are you still using that 18-35 Art that you briefly show? thinking about either picking that up or the new 24-70 Art. Shot both. Love both. But SO TORN. lol

Here I am, researching Fujian lenses, and I see this. Then I check when it was uploaded. Well done, nice timing.
I was looking for a cheap alternative to a pancake lens, so would you recommend the 35mm 1.6 version for a more pocketable setup?
Nice! Glad to be of service. I have some pancake lenses in the works. This would definitely be similar albeit a little longer.

Neewer seems to have a version of the 35mm f1.7 That seems to be cheaper. Would it be the exact same lens?
I would imagine yes. Tons of the same lens with different housings/brands.
DSLR Video Shooter - cool! Might have to try it out! You can’t beat that price tag!

I second this, it literally looks like cgi it’s so perfect
I love the look honestly, it has a sort of vintage feel; but still looks crisp when used right.
Wow great find Caleb, love the look of the 35 and 50
Thanks Wingroll!
Those seem super fun. I really enjoy manual focus and novelty lenses. I'm going to check these out
I picked up the 35mm and oh my!! Thank you!

For Canon M50 25mm works just fine. There is a crop when shooting in 4K, which makes vignietting disapear completely.

Here's the 35mm www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-f1-6-Lens-for-APS-C-sensor-Sony-a6300-a6000-a5100-a5000-a3500-a3000-/322003324217?hash=item4af8e4cd39:g:120AAOSwx-9Wuae8 Yep, $40 shipped.
The lens you sent seems to be a rebranded version of the 35mm f1.6 lens he showed in the video and more expensive
Have the 35mm 1.7 but didn’t know about the extension tubes should make for a compact macro setup. Thx for the tip!
No problem! One of my favorite features.
I can imagine!
They also make APSC cmount lenses $20-$60 to avoid vignette...
very nice ... didn't even have c-mount tense on my radar... i might check that 35mm f1.7 lens out ... thanks man! :D
Nice Video. Where did you get that table. It looks really good
Awesome lenses and a great haircut btw :)
Thanks Roman!!!
Great content as always, I'm happy to use the referral links to support you and all your awesome work.
I’m buying a Sony a5100 within he next week and that is going to blow my budget and I was super disappointed because there is a few lenses I want to buy. I can now buy one or two of these to play around with while I save up for nicer lenses! Thanks!
Did you end up buying any of these?
I own the 25mm 1.4 and have used it with clear image zoom and is ok, but the fujian 35mm 1.7 is awesome, I WENT THE EXTRA MILE AND GLUED (epoxy) A 34 TO 52MM ring adapter AND I CAN ATTACH MY ND FILTERS TO IT 👌👍👐👐👐
can you explain ? i would love to do the same, using it mostrly for vidéo i'll need filter as well ! :)
Genious ! :)
MEIKE LENS in the next video! Please! You are awesome! Thank you again
That is on my list!
Great content, thanks dude!
Thanks yet again. Your videos have been tremendously helpful! Just bought the 35mm F1.7 off of eBay using your link. Hope you get a commission. :)
I liked your video and purchased 35mm f1.7 for my a5000 thanks
how was the overall performance?
Great recommendations! Thanks!
I loved these lenses before. I had the 50, 35 and 25. I loved the 50mm f1.8 pixco lens before. I got all three for below $80.
I see you have shields for them at 06:25. What's the size?
I want to use a cpl with the 35 f1.7, but it seems smaller than any ring adapter I could find.
Fascinating video!
Very helpful. If you can find some cheap wider lenses that would be great!
There's a 4/3" covering 8mm f/3.8.
I believe there's also a 16mm... but that probably only covers S16 sensors like the BMPCC.
You'd need to use ETC if your camera has it, but that kind of negates having a wide lens in the first place...
Thanks for great video again
One thing i noticed you didnt mention in the video was that when you put these on a micro 4/3 lens they tend to double the distance. Im still new with camera stuf so i dont rwally know the technical terms but what i meant is that a 35mm lens will act a little bit more like a 50-70mm lens. Which can be something bad but you can get around it by getting a focual reducer but those can get pretty expensive. But other than that this was a great video
Whats the camera gear ur filming on? really clear n n great clarity.
Is it possible to use these lenses on a Nikon f mount camera?
@Alex Ristola
Not 100% sure but the flange distance of a Nikon with F-Mount is *much* larger than C-Mount cameras have.
Here is a good first orientation if you want to check an old lens

@@uweinhamburg thanks for the info!
What an amazing video, thank you so much dude.
Nice Toasted! Not sure on the IS options. I usually leave it at 35mm but I'm sure there is a better way to go about it.
Good tip! It's almost imposible (or too expensive) getting a 35m filter or step up ring to use nd filters etc :) thanks!
This video is older but extremely useful to someone like me who just ordered a Canon M camera and is awaiting delivery. I would just like to ask you about your recommendation, the Fujian 35mm 1.7. Which types of adapters can one get to use standard-sized ND filters on that one?
Hi bro this all lences are work in sony fs700r plz tell me
I know the video is kinda old.
What are the adaptors that i should use for a SONY NEX 5 T with this lenses???
Is a c mount good for my micro four third Olympus pm em1 (mini)
I don't have any adapter at all
Bought the 35mm F1,7, but with DSLRs they just become macro lens, so they aren't particulary useful for what I usually do (even if they're fun to play with)
man, could you post the link to the small rig that we see in 01:22, please ?
How far are you from the camera when you used the 35mm 1.7 at the end of the video?
I cant find the 77mm / 78mm lens caps, anyone know where to buy the push on caps ?
Do you talk about the microphones you use over these videos? So crispy.
Is the filter thread 37mm? Because the moondog labs anamorphic Lens could maybe fit on the 50mm lens.
I have read the manuals but that has been of no help.
that 35mm is impressive. I got one for my gh4. Are there any adapters these lenses to fit on my canon cameras, that are non mirrorless ?
I wonder if you could use these with cellphones?
Are you still using that 18-35 Art that you briefly show? thinking about either picking that up or the new 24-70 Art. Shot both. Love both. But SO TORN. lol
