RIP to three legends! Mr Harry Belafonte, Mrs. Diahann Carroll, and Mr Paul Mooney 🌹🌹🌹
I love how when Mr. Belafonte decides to talk everybody in the room listens. That's true respect to the OG realist
Mr Belafonte lived it, that's the difference.
At 23:16,he lays it down.
He's a very thoughtful individual, and I like how he asks questions to further draw out the truth behind some of Toure's seemingly ignorant statements. Belafonte is a truly intelligent man who deserves every bit of any praise he gets.
How its posed' to be!
@@socialscientist1895 Yes!!....Amen 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Diahnn was 70 years old here! Sheeesh she was gorgeous 😍😍😍
Damn
Really??? Goddamn… Black dont crack
She was 70 looking 40 Incredible !!!..
Still fine ❤️
FINE
Mr. Belafonte is absolutely golden! Instead of completely dismissing Touré's views he posed a very rich question that made him reevaluate & really think! That's how you teach!
Facts
That's what you call having tact.
Brother Belafonte, had to school him, because as deep as Tourè is, brother Harry has the Pacific Ocean of wisdom knowledge and intellect, of experience to break down, this man knew Malcolm X, as well MLK..and used his entertainment status to be an activist…and this is why we have to pay attention to the wisdom of our elders, and have commonality in what is being said
You caught that too.
@@MrToneeRome 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
My God! Mr. Harry Belafonte is such an eloquent and stately man...as always. Hero.
A Real man. When julia jumps up to dance and kiss him you know this guy is on kings level
Research him, you’d be amazed. The last of the civil rights movement. MAJOR part of it. The financier(s)
He's a real OG. Knows the game. Toure must look back on this and see the lesson schooled in this conversation- and that's what it's like when we talk to elders with more experience! All for the good. His breakdown on the deliberate marketing of Hip Hop (messaging and audience retention) comes from knowing how The Game is played politically, socially and economically
NOW you understand why AMERICA loved him. We all loved, admired, and wanted to be Harry Belafonte.
There needs to be more programs of substance like this
Amen 💯💯💯💯💯
... '' Whitey Won''t allow ...it ''''
I agree.
We should be and should have been engaging in conversation like this anyway for critical thinking.
Why,not enough people will watch. No fighting or drama
Diahann Carroll is hilarious and brilliant. She's enchanting

And may I add that she is still beautiful!🤗
she was allways one of the coolest
She's the epitome of class and elegance.
My mother nursed Harry Belafonte in a hospital in London. She said he was the nicest, loveliest patient. He's also clever, talented and handsome. Some people just have it all.
Get off your knees
I came because of Paul Mooney and fell in love with Diahnn Carroll lol she is so beautiful and elegant. And Harry..it's just wonderful listening to him talk.
She was the total package .

Excellence in d best form Mrs Carroll and Mr Belafonte!

That's why the universe is telling you to come out of her my people so that we don't partake in her room she has and will be judge and she has a lots to give an account of what they have done and it's terrible l just hope they can take what they have dish out but that's who they are and that's how they came amongst us this is a job that nature and the universe will take care of it
they aired it in the morning
Toure is over his head with these experienced Black entertainers who lived the reality. Toure just “ heard” or “ read” about it.
Exactly. He was just 34 on this show. I'm 41 and listening to Mr. Belafonte is giving me life.
It’s tough. I’m 30yo watching this and the difference of +/- 5-10 years of experience is HUGE.
I don't put in on age. There are young people smart enough to shut up and not try to teach their elders, but fewer of them in the last 20 years, and that's called crap raising.
@@MrKISSFAN101Lawd I sure hope he learned that day. There's plenty gems that was dropped in that session.. outta his league.. how the hell he get on that show..?
He represented the younger generation, and the elders are able to directly address the newer ideas and culture.
"I don't get up at noon." "I speak to my right" yay Harry Belafonte LOL! Gotta Love him.
Respect and love to Mr Harry Bellafonte. So much wisdom. I didn't know.
He always had it...always married White women too...always interesting
Harry Bellafonte was dropping knowledge! Toure couldn't bring himself to understand what has happened to hip hop and why.
Yeah he got his ass serve 🤴🏾🤴🏾🤴🏾🤴🏾🤴🏾
Pjiggy I he could not he just sounded to ignorant and he did not represent any black person I know. Imagine I feel free to call myself nigga in front of white people ... he is dumb for that rationality. NO NO NO! Paul Mooney passes away today of a heart attack, he was 79. Thanks for the laughter and knowledge.
Paul Mooney's cadence is timeless...

They probably canceled it after something like this

ROC was a very underrated tv show!
Yeah FOX had great shows, my favorite Martin, In Living Color, Roc... does FOX channel and FOX News have the same owners??
If they do, I’m surprised because they had some groundbreaking black TV shows
@Ordinary Pete With all due respect, they started doing Roc live because the ratings were slipping.
But no way it should be above Cosby show. And I never heard of I spy.
Roc was one of my favorite program underrated i agree .
It is underrated still to this day

I would love to see them talk about it.
And here Brady has Mooney laughing and applauding
I like how Harry Belafonte had to give Toure truth! Hope he learned something because I did!
I think it was brilliant casting. I wanted it to go longer. Harry brought a bottle of Zen Passion with him that night. Toure took some shrapnel but the dynamic was perfect.
Toure had no business being there in the first place
reelblack it really was a great insight! Your correct the casting for the panel was great! Hearing the insight from everyone’s viewpoint and the gems that were dropped. I love great dialogue.

Wow. At 26:26, Mr. Harry Belafonte basically tells Toure' to have a seat! For the next 45-50 sec, he lays out the real TRUTH and you could have heard a pin drop. Priceless.

My hats off to Sir Harry Belafonte who so beautifully articulated through the entire interview what God loves--that being the TRUTH!!!
There is still a lot of barriers to be broken.....a lot of this interview is still applicable to today
Unfortunately, it’s every bit as relevant now as it ever was.
aka NOTHING’S CHANGED
Especially the Black James Bond bit
I feel like it ended on a divisive note and the generational issue was not resolved
This show was too real and they wiped it from existence smh this is gold

This was so filling. The elders made them realize the origins of what you take for granted were carried on the backs of suffering black people for decades. Saying nigger is NOT liberating. But emulating these two dignified people IS. 💖
Belafonte is a real one. He is saying a lot of profound things!
This is a very interesting discussion with a group of intelligent and deep thinking black people. Especially Mr Belafonte who is so eloquent in the way he expresses himself. I could have listened easily for much longer. Thank you!!
Phyllis Simon I Love it. We need to see more of this sort of shows.
I couldn't agree more..
And the conversation is still relevant even now. Especially in 2019 touching on the topic of making something black that was already existing as white. The current issue is The Little Mermaid making Ariel black. White folks are up in arms as a result.

At about 26.00 Mr Harry Belafonte had to sit and school Toure who keeps spewing air. Listen when your elders who lived thru this are giving you directions on how to carry the torch towards the light. Oh and Mooney, I love him but I wished he'd stop interrupting Ms Carol
I completely agree. I was reminded of sesame street segment one of these things are not like the other. Toga didn't belong in this interview with the greats. I never heard of him 😆
Toure not ready for this convo...

And sadly he kept interjecting. Smh.
@I am Hassan exactly, right out of the gate, he started wrong. I get that in conversation one has to be the objective one. But he was so out of place and lacked experience and how to be a listener.
@I am Hassan so full of himself and delusional.. love how he got schooled by the OGs. Hes not from their generation so he has no idea about the struggle.

"Let me ask you a question. Would you say that that aspect of the hip-hop culture which puts Black men out with chains around their necks and defiling Black women and going to a debased place for cultural expression has any comparison with those who made the choice to play the buffoons of that era before?" - Harry Belafonte
This is a rich and fascinating and critical discussion!!!!
So right on point. Its like he said. The origin era of hiphop was intellectual, soulfull, awfull, rebelious. Nowadays hiphop is a joke.. nothing to do with strong black men. The goal just totally got lost...
@@yungxama1606 I do agree. One correction though I think you meant artful instead. You can edit it though.
@@yungxama1606 not all, we can't generalize all of Hip Hop/Rap for what a few do. That's part of the problem, where are our strong black elders to come in and not attack or shame the generation after them. If you guys don't like what you see, teach these youngins that that shit ain't cool instead of yelling at them or shaking a stick. Alot of these cats grow up without male figures in the home, there is a reason it takes a village to raise a child. We can't act like there aren't men way too old in the streets acting this way too. We get better representation when everyone does their part
@@AnimeProfilePicture how tf can u teach ppl that dont listen, no respect for elders n only want quick money no matter how they get it instead of working n investing and quick to sell their souls
@@AnimeProfilePicture Belafonte was right. It's all being steered by the Industry. I mean up until the late 90's you had XCLAN, Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest, Poetic Teachers. RAP/Hip Hop has been taking to another place and they won't let you in unless you rapping about degrading each other.

So glad they had these heavyweights in the room together to share their insight of being in the media industry. Mr. Mooney is funny and real as hell!
Back in 2002 I went to the Blue Note jazz club in NYC to see an Afro-Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes, he was a long time friend of my boyfriend’s stepdad. So we had good seats and the place was packed. The manager of the club came to our table and asked if we mined sharing our table, we said no. In came and sat with us Harry Belafonte 😳 ❤️ and his wife!!!!!! He was so amazing an he engaged with us, he asked me where I was from I told him from Newark NJ. He started talking even more and asked about Corey Booker which at that time he ran and lost for mayor of Newark ( he ran again & won in 2006). I will forever cherish that memory, he’s a wonderful man. God bless him.
what Harry Belafonte said about marketing..👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 YES!!! we didn't just gravitate towards "gangsta rap" just bc we liked it.. we were told to like it! leading up to its advent! it's done in such a way that we didn't even recognize what was happening.. we bought into something that was "fun", but further divided us (Black men and women) and hurt us in the end-- which was the whole plan to begin with.. entertainment is a trip.. it's called programming for a reason!
Finding Mooney stuff has been a hobby of mine since i was a kid and saw his commentary on the Say It Loud documentary and his Stand-Up :). This is awesome. So much BLACK EXCELLENCE HERE. :)

@Forgotten KingzTv Interesting point, however, no one even began to be fair about Michael Jackson, he achieved so much and gave back even more. The Wiz analysis Toure gave was correct and as for the Wizard of Oz, of white cinema; in which the only singing characters were Dorathy and the Munchkins is only a classic because it was marketed that way for decades; and truth be told HOLLYWOOD didn't give a fig about Judy Garland in the end with the way they used her and threw her away.
We've done Cinderella over too with Diana Ross and Brandy as a Musical and white Hollywood didn't like that either The WIZ was first a Musical play and the moral of the story was about knowing your self-worth and appreciating the family around you. The Wiz movie was not meant to be a carbon copy of the play starring Stephanie Mills nor of the Wizard of Oz, yet it was of the same premise but from two different prospectives; that of a young woman and of a young girl. It came at a time when Black America was still trying to depict positive imagery of ourselves in a wholesome light. Especially with all the exploitation movies. So I did not at all appreciate the comment @13:38 Paul Mooney made about Michael being "whiter than whites" is insulting; that it be known Michael has always respected the ELDERS period, especially Black and also White.
With it only being 7 months out, from the aftermath of that horrendous trial still feverously headling, I consider his comment insensitive.
I wished that Harry Belafonte had chimed in to defend Michael as he did about segregation because he experienced it too with the J5 being on the chitlin circuit before he went Solo. After he broke the ceiling in accomplishments and assets the music industry, came for him exponentially.
I hope one day he and all black geniuses are just recognized as geniuses. But Mooney would likely prefer being known a "black genius" 😉
i Luv me some Mr. Paul Mooney.

The president & the First Lady didn’t quite like what she said about why youth of that day felt disillusioned.

If u have any more of the Series please add them.
As a young Native/Black kid growing up in the 70's I had seen the Wizard of Oz just like every kid did back then. Then I saw Michael & Diana in the Wiz and instantly thought it was a better modern version(W.o.Oz) surpassing original because I could relate more to the current('78)rather than the original('39).
Well, I’m black and I agree with Mr. Belafonte. I prefer the original because it was such an iconic film. It’s got nothing to do with race. I just believe that you cannot improve upon perfection. It’s the reason I prefer the original “Goodbye Mr. Chips” (1939) to the musical remake (1969), for example. I just think that the originals were better films. Now, that has not always been the case but, in general, when the original film is considered to be a classic, there’s no point in doing a remake imo.
What a credit to our race Harry Belafonte is!!!!! Thank you Tom Brady for having such a amazing combination of people on your show. Now that's what I'm talking about!!!
