This is some of Ed's best playing. While some of the Roth era riffs are really strong, the Hagar era songs are all much more difficult and exhibit Ed's growth and complexity as a guitarist. For anyone who tries to play some of it, you know what I'm talking about. The fact that Ed does it do effortlessly and in time illustrates what a master he is, not to mention that he penned the whole thing as a composer. Long live the King.....

But this was just an incredible line up. No one can ever deny the incredible impact that Sammy and Michael had on VanHalen. I just wish they could all just get along.
I have to disagree. With Hagar it's a totally different band. Less we NOT FORGET the first 4 albums Roth Van Halen put out. NO band can put out 4 albums like that PERIOD! Saw VH with Sammy...more modern stage of course and was very good show but here on east coast common opinion is Sammy was best when solo artist and here he was never more than opening act...a great one....saw him several times but for my money the first 3 tours with DLR were simply more entertaining and promoting their best albums imo at full throttle(WACF personal fave) ....starting with their tour opening for Sabbath. Maybe being a teen and having little cares in the GA venue days where it was relatively easy to find a way to get close to the stage plays into that opinion. They did upstage Sabbath in a way but I still loved seeing original Sabbath lineup in their first run...amazing show all around.
Van Halen is one of the few bands where 2 lead singers have managed to forge a legacy with the band on their own merits rather than riding the coattails of their predecessors. The only other bands I can think of that have truly achieved this are AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and maybe a couple others. That really is a testament to Van Hagar’s skills as songwriters and live performers. Few other bands can cite their 1st singer and 2nd singer as being equally deserving of praise for their contributions to the longevity of a band.
For a long time, this was not one of my favorite VH songs. Until recently, when I recorded a drum cover video for an audition. After spending days and days to figure out what was happening, I fell in love with it :)

Physical he was suffering some pains due to his hips. Sammy even asked them to tour later so Ed could get a operation and in rehabilitation so he would be in a 100% shape. But the recordcompany wanted the release and tour so they toured. For me, Van Halen is also the dynamical physical show during a gig, but Ed could not deliver. Tonewise he is great indeed, what a sound. Although I prefer the rawer sound during the Fuck tour, during Balance it sounded somehow cleaner to me. But then again, he is Eddie van Halen, a very gifted beautifull talented guitarplayer. If god wanted his son to be playing guitar, he would named him Edward.

Great great times! Eddie in his top form!!!
mark marsh Props to Sammy, but he had nothing to do with Eddie's playing.
Cesar Coelho agreed. Ed was the best he's ever been on this tour
Long live Van Halen!! Can have the worst day and listen to them and it makes everything just right!
Riff genious had so many good times at Van Halen concert back in the day so sad its over guess our youth is really gone
Balance was their best album
5150 with Balance a close second. But they had a great sound going with Balance
RIP Eddie. I had never seen this video before today, not even familiar with the song. Best guitar tone ever!! The entire band is absolutely killing it!!
This was Van Halen at its highest form.. 3 instruments and all that sound! And tight as it gets! In the pocket! Ed, AL, Mike.. Masters! It's a sad sad world without new van halen music but more so just without Eddie! I hope Alex is doing ok. God Bless him.. I know what it's like to lose a younger brother...
Such an awesome album
Dammm Eddy plays good stuff at this song, loved this song, childhood memories in the Netherlands 🇳🇱👌
2:42- 3:05 Eddie and Mikey.... Classic the two of them together miss that about this band.
The guitar in this is mind blowing
3:03 Such an epic breakdown!
I am really torn if I'm a bad person..my grandpa passing was sad no tears though, my uncle same..Eddie passing has crushed me.
Nothing bad ... the more connection the deeper the pain.
That tone kicks you right in the gut
I love this song! Eddie's tone is second to none and Michael Anthony is so good!
Absolutely amazing God
Imitated but never duplicated
