    Great video Jennifer. Just tip, a lot of people (not you) do videos that are too shaky and not steady. When you zoom in on something or do a close-up, give the viewer some time to look at the close-up. Too often I see videos where the object is pushed in front of the camera only to be quickly pulled away almost before the item comes into focus. I have been guilty of this myself. Also, when doing a close-up, get real close and then rotate the item slowly and steady. This helps the viewers see what is going on better. Great videos. Keep it up!

    According to the book "Acorn Pancakes and Dandelion Salad" you can eat nearly all of the parts of the cattail at various times in it's life cycle. The author, Jean Craighead George, says " You cannot starve with cattails around you. An acre of cattails produces ten times as much food as an acre of potatoes"
    Watching this made me wonder if you have done any videos on eating the various parts.
    Also, when you were talking about the leaves being fibrous, it made me think of the possibilities fro using it to make string/rope. I know that sunflowers have amazingly tough fibers running through them and wondered if you have ever used them to make string/rope.
    And I agree with the other comments on the camera work - good job.

    Informative video this spring I'm going to try cat tail roots, Does anyone know what they taste like?

    • @OmegaGear
      @OmegaGear  9 лет назад

      So here is my standard answer to such questions and I am seriously not trying to be a smart aleck. Cattail roots, taste like cattail roots. Here is why answer that..we are always trying to take nature and box it in to what we already know, I understand that..that is why most people have trouble eating wild game and edibles, they want it to taste like something from a restaraunt or grocery store. This stuff typically doesn't. If you allow yourself to just taste what is there you will often find that it actually has more taste - Craig

      I'm assuming a nice swampy taste lol, is there anything to ad in removing that taste? Maybe boiling it or mixing it with something else in a tea.

    • @OmegaGear
      @OmegaGear  9 лет назад +1

      Deranged Survival Depends upon the water they are standing in..but the only things that really retains the "swampy" taste is the roots and yes, boiling them in a change of water helps.
