We saw a man that had robbed a store on our game cams. He was on our property on foot. We sent location to authorities and they were able to find him. He had taken his life. We were prepared and notified our neighbors to stay in. He could have easily attempted to enter our home etc…. Always be prepared. Good advice guys. Appreciate all your videos!
I'm sure y'all weren't shown much (if any) gratitude from the gang, no, "We really appreciate your help with this..." Nothing but storm onto your property, get what they think they need, then left.
I live in Maine. I was 112 miles away from the mass shooting. One week later some crazy nut lite a fire in the middle of walmart 9 miles away from where I live. The damage to the walmart will likely shut down our store permanently. This lunatic tried to burn the store down at the busiest time of the day trying to kill people. Only the local news covered the story with a tiny clip of news as if it was being concealed
Maine here. We live 15 minutes from the shooters house. Every grocery store in the surrounding areas were closed for 2 days during the shelter in place. With our stocked pantry and preps in place the only thing that we had to do was unlock the gun cabinet, sit and wait until he was found. Hopefully it was eye opening for more of the locals to prep up.
I live two houses from where the Lewiston shooter left his car. We went to arms immediately upon hearing the car was left at the end of our road. We lived the events and after 24 hours we went door to door checking on neighbors because the police were chasing their tails. Reach out if you want to talk in depth about the incident. Love your show and watch all your videos.
I was FlAbergasted at how Long it took the copS to locatE the guy. i also Find Lingering questions in my mind About why the letter wasn't published, and i wonder who he had been talkinG to prior to the shooting. i don't have a lot of faith in what the cops and the press are reporting.
That would make an excellent video - sort of a post-mortem examination (sorry for the bad analogy, just that is what its called) of what you and your neighborhood did during the event and reflection on what you might do or not do looking back.
My boss called our office a couple weeks ago, telling me to deadbolt the door and not let anyone in. Someone had been stabbed at a business a few blocks away and the perp. had run and they were searching for him. I called our neighbor businesses in our plaza and told the other receptionists the same info because they check the mail or have workers going in and out throughout the day. We already have to be vigilant leaving, esp. when it's late or dark. So that was a recent example of sheltering in place incident that made me consider more for "bugging in" whether it's at work or home.
Always have a bug out bag or bug in bag AT WORK like where you would keep your purse or a locked drawer. Include a spare set of clothes you never know if you may have to spend the night at work because you CAN'T LEAVE.
Yes! You just reminded me of a time when I worked in an office. I always hated that we left our front door unlocked (I kept asking if we could get a code lock or key access entry lock because many of the people there were very safety conscious/prepper aware, and we happened to work for several guns and ammo companies) but my boss kept putting it off. Well, one random day, our admin got a call that was a recording from the police. It said to shelter in place because a woman was running door to door with a MEAT CLEAVER. It was that moment I was like, told ya so! We should've had a lock already installed. Instead, one of us had to go risk their life by walking to the front door and locking it. And that's just with a meat cleaver. Had it been someone with a gun, their life would've been in even more danger if they had to walk to the door.
For years, I've stayed armed pretty much 24/7/365. Even at home.(All Home Invasions happen "At Home") The only time I'm Not Armed is when I'm in the shower. And then it's on the BthRm vanity. Unfortunately, I can't convince my kids of this necessity. I recently had to move in with one of my sons due to financial issues, so "I'm" the only one in the household paying attention to what's coming.
My son who’s 20 told me today he doesn’t want his conceal carry. He said that’s not why you get a gun. It’s to hunt! I informed him no. My 2nd amendment was to protect myself and family first. Hunting is just a perk. He said he never wants to carry. I asked what if you are in a live shooter situation. He said that never happens. We live very rural and we may be too safe that he thinks that never happens here. 😳🤯😤🤦♀️ I instantly called my husband and asked him what did we do wrong and where did we go wrong! Our 25 & 22 year old daughters both have theirs and use it. He may be the death of me!
Been in law enforcement for 15+ years. Some things we've been seeing (at least here in my area) lately, they cut the power first, then cut the phone lines if there are any. Many people keep their power box outside unlocked. They simply open it and flip the breaker to off. Make sure to put a lock on these. Another thing I do, I have a UPS for my modem/router, and another for my camera hub. In case of a power outage, cameras will still be recording. We've also seen quite a few of these guys using jammers that blocks wireless alarm systems, and cell phones. The most common mode of entry into the home recently has been the rear slider/door. Definitely reinforce front doors, and if you have a rear slider like I do, do what I did and get a security screen installed. From the outside it looks like a normal bug screen, but they are really tough. They are expensive, but worth the cost IMO. Security is done in layers. Start outside, with GOOD lighting, signage (alarm sign, beware of dog) , cameras, fencing, etc. FYI.. SimpliSafe is garbage. Easily hacked with a $5 ham radio.
They can also just pull the meter out of the meter socket. If my power is cut, goes off or if I lose internet I automatically get an alarm on my phone (separte power and internet source) no matter where I'm at. With any luck I'll have my cell phone near me (not big on carrying a cell phone). I also have lighting on remotes that shut off all inside lighting (except what I need) and turns on outside flood lights. It lets anyone outside know that I know they are there, I can see them but they can't see me.
Based on experience as a target of home invaders, I recommend starting by keeping your home and yard locked up as much as possible. Sings of dogs and their equipment are a huge deterant, especially if you have dogs visit in your front yard. A locked storm door over the front door is super strong, yet does not look like bars to deter criminals, screaming to the world that I have things they want. Most attempts to enter my home have been through my front door. A security screen door over a metal entry door in the back yard kept an angry young, buff man under the influence from entering my home, while I spoke with 911 dispatch. He remained taunting me. Hard wired and WiFi cameras that are mobile are best, especially when neighbors cameras capture activity on each other's properties. With a couple possible exceptions, these attempts have all been made by illegal Mexicans that the government spends my hard earned taxes to house near me in "affordable housing." Within a few weeks, I see the criminals at their homes, and minimum wage jobs. Demand the government deport the illegal immigrants if you want to live in peace.
We had glass pane doors in our last home. My husband had plexiglass cut to overlap those windows and screwed them on the inside of the doors. We had curtains that cover the window. You could not tell we had plexiglass. You would have to take those doors down because you were not getting through that plexiglass.
Hmmm, a friend of mine has a sliding glass door that she never uses but it is certainly a weak point in home safety. I wonder if putting a plexiglass sheet over the door on the interior would be a fix? Maybe have it attached to the wall studs in such a way that it could be removed quickly from the inside but could not be gotten through or off so easily from the outside? I am going to have to look into this. What a grand idea!
@@shrikeofterven6006 it sounds like a great idea but you may have problems on the slider door. The attached plexiglass will prevent the door from sliding. Yes, you could put it over the whole doors but you would not be able to ‘quickly’ remove it. It would be removable but not quickly. She may want to save her money and have the slider door replace with a real door.
@@homesteadgal4143I saw a video where they loosened the screws inside the top of the frame so the doors could not be lifted out. The doors remained functional.
My glock goes in every room I go too, doors stay locked. Had a guy come through my window years ago in my kitchen, with just me and my two children. He got away, its a l9ng story, but some how I talked him down and he left, and I stayed calm. The next week he raped and slit a womans throat. He duck taped both my little girls, before he woke me. Holy Spirit was with me, and guided me through it all. Praise God. 🙏 If this ever happens to you, stay calm dont scream, dont fight, you do that, it makes their drynaline go through the roof, dont feed it. Thats what saved me and my kids.
I'm so glad you made it ok out of that incident! Unfortunate for the other victim later 💔 always stay vigilant and thank God He protected you then! 🙌🙌🙌
Its called "night lock" its a kick plate that bolts into your floor. The wife and i had it on our old house we just sold and we loved them. Definitely is a added time buyer.
My wife was showing me a video where a girl wasnt home but her ring door bell cam was disturbed and some criminal ran past followed by some cops. The cops asked her if she saw him go by as they couldnt find him and she reviewed the cameras and came back on the mic to tell them the criminal was hiding in a trash can in her back yard 😂😂 probably the funniest story ive ever watched. You can find it if you search for it. If this doesnt show the value of cameras idk what will.
If I’m at home my safe is opened. Always have my handgun but if I needed a rifle no matter where I am in the house I’d pass up 1 or 2 before I made it to the safe. Some ppl probably wouldn’t agree but my kids have rifles/ shotguns in their rooms. They are only 9 and 11 years old but have been shooting since they could hold a gun and can safely handle and operate them. Only time we put them up is if they have friends staying over.
Smart.move.. parents need to teach their children how to defend each other. I'm 70 and my dad taught us very young. I could & did shoot a 410/22 over & under when 3 yrs old. I have a friend who's son that could shoot my 44mag Ruger pistol at 5. He would laugh , and ask to do it again. But hewas taught respect and safety for weapons before he tried to shoot. Keep vigilant my friend. We have a Devine,God given right to defend our families. That stems from His Love for us..
@@DanielSmith-cv2tp both my kids started with the same two guns. A single shot cricket 22lr and a single shot break action .410. My oldest son has a 13.9” 5.56 and my daughter which is a little younger has a 10.5” but for now has the cmmg 22lr conversion bolt in it. And my youngest son just turned 5 he’s been passed down the cricket and single shot .410
I have had my home broken into and my identity stolen; have done all I can and became more prepared and train daily. Planning on launching a class to help others recover their identity and security in their home. Single moms and kids are being targeted by these creeps! Criminals are targeting us, and unfortunately some wealthy people are helping. The law has stopped several huge groups around us; and hopefully will be able to continue! Just wanting to help people walk through the steps they have learned in 30 days.
Thank you for all this information. I am a great grandma who went back to work several years ago in order to better prepare my family members with enough food, water, ammunition, meds, etc. Etc. In case we have a grid-down scenario. Then, when this past Oct. 7th happened and all these Jewish people were MURDERED by these Palastinians I knew I had made the right decision to keep working. This same thing could occur here in the USA since Biden (the traitor) has allowed way too many illegals to cross our Southwest border. Keep PRAYING for peace.
I live in a prefab home. I have replaced the front and back doors with 3" screws. Both doors have a deadbolt, but I added another longer deadbolt to the inside of both doors and I have added six more inside locks to the inside of the back door. The back door opens out and has no storm door, so three of the inside locks I have added are on the hinge side.
I built a safe room for my kids upstairs. Door is a steel fire door. Reinforced 6 inch lock plate 9 3 inch screews. Closed cell foam walls, oak book shelf on wall1
With regards of USCCA there are reports that the insurance is refusing to cover someone if the police charge you which happens most of the time as I see.could you do a show on this topic for the community. Thanks!!
If your able on the door on outside if not strong. Sand and coat with a layer of fiberglass and while wet cover with a layer of metal sheeting. So when they kick it. The force will evenly spread. Also on inside a brace to floor. Must lean to center and foot into the floor creating a triangle. Also an alarm that sounds off outside and inside. Do not put alarm where wire can be cut.
You guys are the best! Regarding doors: I never understood the 3 inch screws. Almost every door has glass or windows beside them. Break the glass reach in and unlock. If they want in they're coming in.
It's true passive security only goes so far as to slow down a criminal and buy time which is important. It can deter them from you aswell so they may seek an easier target.
Another commenter said that putting a plexiglass sheet over vulnerable windows could work. The sheet would be on the interior and not visible from the outside. If the plexiglass was attached to studs, it would be hard to get through even if the outer window is broken. @@kalmes23
Double key deadbolt. Against fire codes but I have them and I keep hidden keys inside nearby in case of emergency. This is MY house and I am responsible for MY SAFETY.
I have been realizing to be aware since 911 preparedness including practice be ready for anything is important and never show your hand. And being from philadephia pa the shootings we have now I have learned be aware of you surroundings and do not waste ammo. You are giving great advice for everyone that watches and that can save lives
My wife is armed as well and will defend her self we both have trained and will continue to train weekly. Don't underestimate a women that would be a mistake I promise you that.we have been fortifying our house as well.
It helps to know your neighbors as well. The pebble creek area we're in has grown so much lately, so we have to stay well informed and aware of the changes. We always love the channel and information!
Huh, as a 24 LEO veteran, it just so happens I helped one fine lady just today by arresting one bad dude. Then I helped an entire community by making two dirt bags pound sand and move along with their drug use and theft. I also made a traffic stop and had a heart to heart with a driver who was doing double the speed limit in order to get her to slow down so the kids in the area could safely walk to school. But I digress, yeah, us cops are the bad guys. SMH...
@gephrygeph6480 if more were like you, i.e peace officers, good guys, vs police officers or "law enforcement" the populace wouldn't feel the way they do. Humans tend to stereotype or think collectively which isn't right, it's a very touchy subject. I commend you for being one of the few who give that occupation and the citizenry the proper respect.
Good Guys you both are! My number one goal is to shelter in place. Much better to defend the home ground. I missed the Panoramic. I actually had a blast. Unfortunately….it was real and bad. Storms are easy. Violence is so difficult. I am fairly prepared for an Old Decrepit man.
2x4’s at 2-3 places across doors barricades door; look for u shaped metal pieces in the hardware store. Attach u shapes two places and add 2x4’s. Not very pretty, can be painted, but very effective. It would take a car to open that door. And please lock and shut your bedroom doors before turning on your alarm at night!
Talking about security with violence, something that has been bothering me and maybe someone will have a suggestion,.... my home has 16 windows, 18 if you count my French doors in the front of the house, which let's in alot of beautiful natural light, but this is all on the main floor and seems like a huge security risk to me if stuff really goes south.. thanks for any ideas to help close this security gap in advance
Would you please talk about protection measures and ideals for the elderly, disabled and widowed elderly women that live alone...🤔 Especially with the depth and breadth of current events here at home and abroad, along with a lot of neighbor's NOT knowing or wanting to know one another. I watch all your videos, however everything you discuss covers individual's that have a man i.e. husband, firearms, cameras etc. available to protect them from home invasions and break ins late at night or in the early morning hours!! I truly BELIEVE there are a lot of elderly, disabled and widowed individual's that would benefit from your expertise, wisdom and extensive knowledge on how to protect themselves and their properties. I pray that God continues to richly pour down His Blessings, love, daily guidance, wisdom, discernment and hedge of protection over you, your families, and your followers families... during the most difficult, unpresidented, and Biblical times we're all living in here at home and abroad... ..🕊👑🕊
Kandimeyer1906 hi Iam from NZ & I live alone so am interested in how to keep safe you are right. Wanted to know what other preps that you do. THANKS VERY MUCH.TAKE CARE F.NZ.❤
I am not elderly yet. But as I am getting older and not as physically strong as I was 20 years ago, I have been giving this some thought. A dog trained for personal protection is an option if you can afford one (see: Fortress K9). Good relationships with neighbors who may be willing to protect you. Ultimately we may need to find another person to share our home and help us. This may be especially true for the elderly and disability. Pride has to be buried and social bridges built. Shalom/Peace
Please don’t assume just because someone has a partner in life that they shouldn’t both be prepared. A wife can save a husband’s life too. Yes it sucks you are alone, but doesn’t mean you can’t be armed and prepared too. Just choose a weapon you can handle. Doesn’t have to be a huge handgun, can be something smaller - even a .22 will do damage in the right hands with the right ammo and LOTS of practice. The idea in terms of home security is to not let them get access to the house first off. One thing I have taught kids who now live on their own in apartments - if you have workers in your home, always check all your window locks / sliding doors after they leave.
I often wonder if a person mounted speakers outside and in a remote way using recorded sounds gun fire car noise. Screaming. Large dog. Pack dogs. Group people yelling after an alarm roars. Have set up for stereo so sounds come from different locations
Like home alone😂? Maybe I'm off my hinges, but I believe ya. That's why I'm gonna let ya go. I'm gonna give you to the count of three to get your lousy, lyin', low-down, four-flushing carcass OUT my door! 1... 2...
Fire extinguishers are great but if your buying cheaply made inexpensive extinguishers from a store other than an Amerex, Sentry or Badger it’s best to upgrade as money will allow. There is a difference between quality and cheap, 30 years experience in the business.
Someone asked me years ago where I might bug out to, thought I might head to the mountains, but as I thought about it more I said I’m staying right here at home where all my resources are plus it’s easier to defend.
When I worked in a hospital, before retirement, I always had 4 days worth of food in my dressing room locker locked up and 3 days in my car. I stayed prepared and no one knew. 😮 we were always told the food in cafeteria was for patients upstairs 🙄.
Great video and talking points. I do believe that the fully loaded magazine's springs argument has been put to rest by several independent studies which showed no detrimental affect on the springs when stored fully loaded for many years.
I kept the heavy metal screens from 1950. The windows are mostly small squares in heavy metal frames, making it difficult to move property through. Even a small child can not climb through these. Many criminals employ young children in the commission of Felanies.
21:28 Slow Mo Do also said food shortages TRUE - BUT POTUS Sto Mo ALSO SAID be prepared for POWER GRID PROBLEMS - Rolling Brownouts, Blackouts, and possibly even a longer-term outtage.
If you have Ring or SimpliSafe, put out an ADT sign. It can act as a deterrent and not show your hand on your real capabilities (for hacking) at least at first glance.
Solar motion centered lights can even go in trees. Cheep... So are under the door handle stopper that goes to the floor. Cheep... The fire extinguisher is a great idea. :)
All my down stairs I frosted so you can’t peek in. Also I use lights that turn on at different times all through the night randomly so they never know what going on.
Thanks guys - very helpful. We have solar & battery motion sensor alarms, cameras & lighting around the house, driveway & property. Also two dogs who alert us. Will be putting up trip wires also. Will be putting up that special plastic on our windows & glass sliding doors that prevents shattering from the outside. Doors are secure with 4" screws & two METAL SECURITY DOORS font & back doors so no breaking the frame there.. Ring cameras are okay as long as you have electricity - what if the grid goes down!?! Generators are too noisy & may attract attention.
Watching Deviant Olam I learned that Simply Safe is easily hacked because they use Wi-Fi frequencies. Also Ring shares your video with local law enforcement. As far as trading ammunition I would only do it with someone who I trust. Wouldn’t want it used against me.
42:32 My Niece moved from Dorm Room to apartment this Past summer. He found some type of lock that goes in the hinges somehow where the door cannot be opened (inward opening apartment door) unless She disengages the lock. They also put one of those door stops that you see on the bottom of a door that is on a hinge - schools put them on the outside of classroom doors to hold the door open - my brothers put hers on the inside. 3rd apartment door security, they got her something that goes under the door knob [ like you see done with a chair-back in movies ] this is o bar with one end made that goes under the door knob, the other sits on the floor, and when you push the bar flat to lock it you cannot open the door & no damage to the apartment. Now, if my poor neice ever has to get out in a hurry, she may have a problem; but she sleeps well at night for now.😂
The best thing for your doors are metal security doors. NO ONE is getting through those like they would any reinforced door. I got my front, back and slider done for around $1k. Each door was just under $500 installed. Slider was a bit more at home depot. And they had the installer!
I wish you could show some of these safety items. I’m 75 and live in an unsecured retirement community apartment. We have no security or cameras! No one on staff is armed and they leave at the end of the day%!
If they are outside your house, it's trespassing only. You can't shoot someone for being on your lawn. In a lot of states, it's MUCH more legally defensible once they are inside. It's unfortunate, but, that's the legal landscape you may have to deal with.
I am looking to purchase a firearm for home protection. Geez...I live in CA. A basic pistol perhaps a 9mm without much kick when fired. Havent been on the range in a couple decades but looking to get back to it. Any recommendations? Great info on both your presentations...thanks! .
Weeks right before the pandemic happened I was living in Portland, OR. This exact situation happened to me!! But I was home and more than half my household was gone. And I had only one other adult and a teen in my house. We had PPD with their tactical vehicles park in our front yard to stage the search!! We were locked down for over four hours!! I watched a neighbor she was screaming at police saying she was going home because her children where alone at home and she just ran passed them finally to her house!! It was beyond scary and that night I realized I was not a big city woman!!
I work on windows, putting 3m film only makes it easier to deal with, less noise because there is no broken glass. The glass in one sheet when you kick it in or when you remove the entire rubber seal. Ask any window guy, they'll tell you. This is utter bullshit. Get bars on your windows. it's the only way to secure them.
As for door re-enforcement, need to re-enforce the door frame too. I'm getting shatterproof windows, and gates for the doors. Especially for the patio doors.
The lips of ar 15 magazines can bend. Magpul gives the clip on adapters to help w that. I keep several magpuls loaded up, but other mags empty in reserve
we have a varsity of weapons located throughout our home from A Batton at the front door to an AR somewhere else. There's a K-Bar knife that's as handy as a 12-Gage, and an S&W M&P 22 for those times when a girl just wants to chill out & watch a Chick Flick or something. The first time one of my family noticed one item they tock notice of others I geuss because at the end of the visit they asked me what I was afraid of. " What do you mean?" " What do I mean? I mean you have this here, that there, that in there...... so II'm isf curious as to what you're afraid of? " " ABSOLUTELY NOTHING " 😉 All they said was "Fair enough" as they walked out the door shaking their head. 😂😂
Please give some advise for homebound single men or women. I live alone and am in a wheelchair. I have been prepping with food, radio with several functions which can be used. I live in an apartment with one double window in the bedroom and a sliding glass door in the livingroom. I have a door with only a deadbolt lock. I have no family or friends where I live ( long story how I wound up here). I wish I felt more secure. Hoping you will give tips to others like me.

Lol, we had a guy on the run here in central Florida. Police autodial every house and provide description. I am thinking, that poor SOB better turn himself in. Every home and farmer out here in orange/beef country is armed to the max!
I keep having to buy ammunition because I keep going to the range and training. Kind of a drag to pay higher and higher prices just because you want to be really proficient with your pistol/rifle.
My attack cat thinks rhat everyone thats comes to the house is there to visit her. The good news is she is black and difficult to see in bad light, so intruders might trip on her.
As for USCCA, how can you trust an organization that will drop you and make you pay back all fees even when you are innocent, but just loose your case, and appeals are not allowed or considered as for USAA?
A prisoner escaped and was hiding in the woods next to my house. Dogs had tracked him and police searched my property trying to find him. I wasn’t home and was called and told not to come until they notified me. They eventually found him in a kudzu patch.
One thing about simply safe , they originally had push notification if you self monitored, now they have changed and if you want to self monitor and be notified you have to pay their minimum 14.99/mo service
While watching this I was skimming my Facebook feed and the local scanner page was reporting: "Several people have asked about the heavy police activity east of Anna. Here is what we know. Police are searching for 2 suspects. 1 is in custody. A helicopter is in the area searching. This is possible from a high-speed chase, but that is not confirmed. An area rehab facility has been put on lockdown. We will update you if we get new information."
I keep cheap LED lights to throw into the front room to backlight intruders. In the event of electric going out. I had a guy target me one night after work. During the lockdowns I had to do security sweeps at work. He followed me home.
I live in the country with very high hills so I don't have Cell Phone reception unless I actually leave my farm. Can I have a RING doorbell installed and can I have it hooked to a computer instead of a cell phone?
Here’s another thought. If you install freaky bright lights facing out from house. You’ll foil theyre night vision. Even have some lights located in a way that is triggered by movement. Thing is no one likes theyre eyes banged unsuspecting also this temporary effects them. Not seriously harming the person. If they use night vision and groups will use it. This will blow out theyre ability to be hidden. They will switch to regular lights. Giving theyre location away.
Question!!! What do you recommend for securing french doors? Bought the house this way. Only way to move bigger furniture in, so the need for 2 doors is valid. Any suggestions?

It was that moment I was like, told ya so! We should've had a lock already installed. Instead, one of us had to go risk their life by walking to the front door and locking it. And that's just with a meat cleaver. Had it been someone with a gun, their life would've been in even more danger if they had to walk to the door.
For years, I've stayed armed pretty much 24/7/365. Even at home.(All Home Invasions happen "At Home")
The only time I'm Not Armed is when I'm in the shower.

What kind of UPS do you us for the modem? I tried one and it failed. Those things don't draw much, so maybe it was just a bad unit.
I had no idea there was 3m film for glass. Thanks! I just ordered some on Amazon.
@@shrikeofterven6006 Sliding doors are one of the easiest spots for an intruder to take off the tracks and gain entry.
@@homesteadgal4143I saw a video where they loosened the screws inside the top of the frame so the doors could not be lifted out. The doors remained functional.

Oh I’ve seen that one!!! Pretty amazing!

Regarding doors:
I never understood the 3 inch screws. Almost every door has glass or windows beside them.
Break the glass reach in and unlock.
If they want in they're coming in.
It's true passive security only goes so far as to slow down a criminal and buy time which is important. It can deter them from you aswell so they may seek an easier target.
If you have glass next to the door, switch to a deadbolt that requires a key on the inside.
Another commenter said that putting a plexiglass sheet over vulnerable windows could work. The sheet would be on the interior and not visible from the outside. If the plexiglass was attached to studs, it would be hard to get through even if the outer window is broken. @@kalmes23

Agree--as a widow I know I'm totally on my own. Not a comforting feeling--no one to rely on, no one to protect or defend me. Sigh. I hate it.

I have seen stainless steal window screens. They are a little pricey but well fortified.
I kept the heavy metal screens from 1950. The windows are mostly small squares in heavy metal frames, making it difficult to move property through. Even a small child can not climb through these. Many criminals employ young children in the commission of Felanies.

My Niece moved from Dorm Room to apartment this Past summer. He found some type of lock that goes in the hinges somehow where the door cannot be opened (inward opening apartment door) unless She disengages the lock.
