Yah know, something just accured to me. Everyone always uses a relatively skinny stick for the spindle. If you use a thicker spindle and carve a small tip on it you essentially create a geared system, amplifying your output. Might be an interesting test.

No you don't, you increase the circumference of the spindle you will slow the rotation because you have a larger rolling radius, the distance to complete a rotation is greater than a thinner spindle.

    • @papagrim9777

I used to go semi survival camping before. Started when i 8 till 16. Just recently, i was at home preparing the grill for some fajita and grill chicken. The coal i was using was dry and didn't have gas so it was hard lighting it up and creating a constant flame. I had gotten impatient so i pulled out the rubbing alcohol bottle. I was first dripping a bit of alcohol around the flames, while it did light it up, it didn't do much. I used a cotton ball soaked with alcohol and dropped it into the flame. It wasn't enough. I got mad, so i pressed the bottle a bit to hard and it went directly to the flame. The flame traveled to the bottle and exploded on me. The alcohol splashed on me and caught my clothes on fire. The explosion of the bottle confused me for a bit until i felt heat on my chin, then i saw and heard fire on me. I quickly took my shirt off and started patting my shorts. The sun was hitting me so i couldn't really tell where the flames were. 2nd degree burns in 8% of my body. Burnt my calves, thighs, most of my left hand, and my abdomen. Now im scared of fire and alcohol. Still gives me chills and a headache when thinking about it

See if you can work to make the stroke longer on both hands, as well as work more vertical length of the spindle.
The super short strokes makes it harder with a lot more energy expended because it cools down every time you reset your hands.
Idealy, develop the "scrubbing" technique where your hands aren't going down, because one hand is climbing back up the spindle while the other is applying downward pressure.
If you are doing the short stroke because of calluses, I understand, my finger calluses are thick enough that it makes it like a speed bump, but it really makes a big difference to go from fingertip to heely, especially in less than ideal conditions.
