I think one of the things that has made TMNT so special is how it such a silly premise, but it embraces the concept with sincerity, allowing audiences to be in on the fun. Also, and this is most prevalent in Mutant Mayhem, it really tackles themes of being the weird one and the feeling of wanting to fit in, but fear that no one would accept you, which I’m sure most people can relate to. It sure is a property that has “the outsider” written in it’s DNA, not just because of the mutant and stealth elements, but also that it started off as an independent piece of work from just two guys, isolated from the biggest publishers, which I find very inspirational.
The one thing about the Turtles is that if for some reason you mention their namesakes, people will immediately think of the Ninja Turtles and not the Renaissance artists
I’m glad that Rise has garnered a very loyal fan following after it was initially savaged by older fans. I’m sure many agree that Nickelodeon should have given it more of a chance and let it “find it’s voice” like other series that garner scorn. Fortunately Netflix made a great call by securing the deal to make the movie, and give it the ending it deserved.
The show, I admit, wasn't necessarily for me... but I absolutely HATED how older fans were so toxic towards it, ridiculing it and those who enjoyed it. While it's not "my" Turtles, I aboslutely appreciated them taking a creative swing with it, and more than anything else, I LOVED the animation. "Rise" and its fans definitely deserve better. Now that I think about it, I actually really enjoyed the "Rise" movie!
@@thedefinitionisthisRise definitely imo has some of the strongest depictions of Donatello and April and the new villains it introduced truly are memorable.

The original 1990 movie is still my favorite version of the characters. It had a great balance of the comics' darker edge, the cartoon's sense of humor, and a story with sincerity and heart. It also gave us those awesome Jim Henson's Creature Shop designs. I haven't seen Mutant Mayhem yet but it looks pretty fun. I'm glad the Turtles are still going strong.

The 2014 Ninja Turtles movie is a weird one. It may have some weird creative choices like having Shredder and Eric Sachs be two separate characters and can be quite convoluted like how Sachs was responsible for the destruction of the lab and killed April’s father, but at the same time, it does have some very enjoyable moments, such as the hoshi scene and the elevator scene. This is why I much prefer Out of the Shadows, as I feel it’s a lot more consistent and focuses more on being a live-action episode of the ‘87 cartoon. Yeah, it’s also not perfect but it’s the more enjoyable one imo.

Fun fact: One of my favorite video games, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (2013), has a turtle character named Bentley who is the sole star of a hacking minigame called "Alter Ego", and his avatar resembles Raphael. If you have two controllers, there will be a second avatar in the minigame that resembles Leonardo. Unfortunately, game designer Mat Kraemer has confirmed that the minigame avatar is actually based on John Rambo, which disappoints me, but it's still interesting to note because Bentley's avatar looks a lot like the TMNT. The game also has other TMNT references in it, namely Bentley saying, "The last time I was in these sewers, I was just a teenager" and a mission called "Shell Shocked Heart", which I think could be a reference to the Turtles arcade games.

So I've noticed, over the years with TMNT, the following will happen.. The first movie will be a hit, the sequel not so much but still make some money, there will be a turtle fatigue where people will lose interest in a series but come roaring back for the next one, and finally... no matter how gritty or tough the turtles are, a parent group will come in and ruin the series! This is happening with the original 80s Show, 2003 series, and onward as they feel the turtles are too violent and want to dumb it down for the children... who are very sick of that! Hell, i was one of them!!!😂
This was very interesting, educational, and entertaining for me. Excellent! I've been a TMNT fan my whole life. My favorite TMNT series is the '87 series with the 2012 series a close second. I'm only just now watching the 2003 series and am enjoying it so far. My favorite TMNT movie is Secret Of The Ooze with Out Of The Shadows a close second. I enjoy all of the movies, though. I haven't seen any of Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series after episode 1 nor its Netflix movie. I plan to see Mutant Mayhem soon.
Kid Danger: *wearing his big trucker pup* holy luna! 40 years! Holy luna! I was a baby colt in the 90's. I think i saw the turtles when I was a colt but I was watching tv in a family member's home. But, BUT, when Nickelodeon got the rights to the tmnt 2012, i was HOOKED on the ninja turtles! *has hearts in his eyes* oh my luna! Donnie's voice and gap tooth! My luna, too cute! *falls on the ground hard on his face and quickly gets up and wipes himself off with his hoof* my luna! I love the ninja turtles!
Thanks for another great video, Dave. I enjoyed watching it with my pizza. The original 1980s/1990s animated series is the only version of this franchise I'm familiar with (and because I'm from the UK, I knew it as "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles"). Still, I'm happy to see that these characters form my teenage years are on their way to becoming pop culture perennials.
I remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a kid I remember the 2012 series even the 80s and 90s series, either online or the 10th season on DVD. as for the movie itself from 1990, the battle sequences are the most intact, even battling the shredder, and I never cared too much of stuff that has been happening until now And I never cared too much about the sequels as well even TMNT 2007 however, I do remember the 2014 Version but I never saw a sequel As for the rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I have seen a few episodes on Nick but even then, I never saw too much or the movie which I've yet to see and I have seen a few clips of the series from the 2000s and for mutant mayham, it's awesome, it's absolutely awesome. Overall, really nice evolution of our favorite ninja turtles.
I still wish rise wasn't so massively overhated by both the network and the fans. It's one of my favorites and it's such a massive shame to see that it could only finish with 2 seasons and a movie
TMNT has been one of those franchises that stays popular no matter how they change it. other things like Little Mermaid, Velma, Ghostbusters 2016, Star Trek Discovery, Spiderman and Batman anger fans with a bad reboot but TMNT has always found fans regardless of changes.
Yeah,I actually enjoyed the Michael bay duology as a kid,and was quite shocked to learn people hated it,I can understand why,but I still enjoy the films.
No, it’s the same as any other big franchise. The bay produced movies are hated much like the TASM films, the Snyder verse, and the Star Wars Prequels, yet all of these have fans. Even more so in the modern day, presumably because the kids who saw them have now grown up and have a more vocal opinion. Or in the Snyder verse’s case, because of edge lords
@@sasamichan I was mainly talking about you bringing up Spider-Man and Batman, you know ACTUAL franchises. Velma on her own is not a franchise, neither is the little mermaid.
2003 Shredder: oh, so there’s TMNT across the multiverse. I’ll just kill each and every- Sees the rock play and the rap videos. 2003 Shredder: reality must be destroyed.
Been a huge turtles fan since day 1 when the comic was release back when I was born and ever since then Ive been loving each different iterations of each of the turtles since then. Also you didn't bring up all the TMNT shorts around the time the 2012 TMNT series was still showing around that time which was uploaded on YT as well at the video games much such as the new latest TMNT Shredder's revenge game and just recently after EVO they would appear in another crossover fighting game which is Street Fighter 6 as costumes in the Battle Hub. Still no matter the continuity TMNT would continued on for later generations and with more to show in comic, movies, video games or whatever media it grows as time goes on. 🍕COWABUNGA🍕💙🐢🧡🐢💜🐢❤🐢

I spent an entire month making this 40+ minute video. These videos are almost always nowhere near comprehensive, especially when it comes to decades-old properties that have spanned literally thousands of publications and productions. I can only fit in so much information in one video. This video contains every major movie and TV production while also touching on the major comic publications.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder OK sorry I forget how much time and effort goes into this type of stuff which explains why everybody in Hollywood is striking for more money
I like super heroes from DC and Marvel and all, but Indie Boys TMNT and The Tick (especially since both spawned from my state) have been my favorite comic book heroes. Though both I discovered through the cartoons first. As for the TMNT, it's easier for me to say that Next Mutation and the music videos are the absolute nadir of TMNT and Secret of the Ooze is my least favorite of the movies for the reasons given here. I'm thoroughly enjoyed all four cartoon series to date, and if I had to at gunpoint pick a favorite of the bunch, I'd go with the 2012 series. There really isn't much to say that hasn't been said before. I'm on pins and needles for the upcoming cartoon series following the movie, and I'm most interested in how the other mutants will fare in the series.
I grew up watching the 87' Turtles show and LOVED IT! I had the toys, clothes and other stuff that came out during that Turtle Maina of the 90's. The live action 90's movies brought them to the next level of the characters too. I can't remember if I saw the original in theaters but I might have. I really can't remember. I know I saw the 2nd one in theaters. That one I really enjoyed but same as the 1st one too. I watched them EVERY Saturday Morning just to see what they were going to get into that episode. I never did have a crush on April (like a bunch of guys or woman) but she was what I thought a really cool woman character. I saw her almost as a sister to the guys even though they were younger then she is. The 2003 show I didn't watch. I remember seeing it and thinking oh hey look a new show but I was more like nah it's not my turtles. Now later on I got into watching them more. Especially after getting into the 2012 series on Nick. That's as far as I got with the show. Didn't watch Rise just cause I didn't care for how they swapped certain characters traits. But I'm ready to go see the new animated movie. I can't wait!!! Thanks for making this video Dave. You always out do yourself. Love it!

I love TMNT it's so amazing and interesting My favorite versions of the TMNT are 1)TMNT 2012, 2)TMNT 2003, 3)TMNT IDW COMICS, 4)TMNT 1987, with that order,
This is great dave and the teenage mutant ninja turtles are awesome plus my favorite moments of the tmnt are the 80s and the 2012 series and my favorite movie is teenage mutant ninja turtles mutant mayhem so these heroes are the best so thank you kevin and peter!
Alot of versions i loved turtle prime, classic tmnt, original 1990 tmnt movies, tmnt next mutation, 2003 tmnt, 2007 movie, turtles forever movie, 2012 turtles, 2014 turtle movies, 2019 batman vs tmnt and 2023 tmnt mutant mayhem oh and injustice 2 game
Dang, I was hoping for those SDCC shorts, as a demonstration of how much Nick has put in, but they seem to be absent😢
TMNT seems to be another perfect example that busts the “Animation is just for kids” misconception.
Hell, i was one of them!!!😂
Never thought I’d see the day where Dave would talk about anime here.
I occasionally, if it makes sense or the story requires it.
Thanks for saying, glad you enjoyed it!!
Right on time for my birthday. Great video.
Thank you, and happy birthday!
Awesomeness video can’t wait for another video dude! 100%❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Between Batman vs. the TMNT, Shredder's Revenge and Mutant Mayhem, the last few years have been very good for the turtles.
I've always preferred Lego Ninjago, but it's hard to not love the Turtles if you're a classic geek
One more Turtles/Batman Crossover you didn't mention was Batman/TMNT Adventures which crossed over the 2012 Turtles with Batman TAS/TNBA
I love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise
Seems to be a theme with this one: Every time an iteration shifts to a lighter tone, it bombs.
Reminds me of the early 90s Batman film iteration.
True, the one exception being for the original cartoon. That one ended going a bit grittier in its final seasons
I think you forgot The Fugitoid.
It was Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman's original planed Comic book series that never saw the light of day.
I love the 1987 TMNT cartoon series the most 👍🏻
Next the Evolution the Joker.
@@marvelstarwarsfan8410 I liked those movies as well.
@@Albino_Basilisk know what people hate? Velma and Little Mermaid. Know what people don't hate? April
@@sasamichan I was mainly talking about you bringing up Spider-Man and Batman, you know ACTUAL franchises. Velma on her own is not a franchise, neither is the little mermaid.
I love rise of the teenage ninja 🥷 turtles 🐢 2018
Can you do Fat Albert next?
Hey hey hey!
One ☝️ of the future Cartoon Evolution videos you can do was Garfield the Cat ok 👍
Happy 40th anniversary to teenage mutant ninja turtles 🥷🐢☣️☢️💙💜❤️🧡🍕
Good on ya mate! 😀 Totally Tubular mondo to the max animation video supremo!
Thank you!!
2003 Shredder: oh, so there’s TMNT across the multiverse. I’ll just kill each and every-
Sees the rock play and the rap videos.
Can you please do a cartoon evolution of the smurfs does the smurfs is one of my favourite cartoon please?
Scene in a Spanish class prior to 1984:
Teacher, to a boy named Leonard: Como se llama? (What is your name?)
Student: Me llamo Leonardo. (My name is Leonard.)
But now?
Teacher: Como se llama usted?
Student: Me llamo Leonardo.
Another student: Si, y donde estan Michaelangelo, Raphael, y Donatello? (Yes, and where are (the other turtles)?)
With over 40 years of tmnt I feel like he skipped over some things
I spent an entire month making this 40+ minute video. These videos are almost always nowhere near comprehensive, especially when it comes to decades-old properties that have spanned literally thousands of publications and productions. I can only fit in so much information in one video. This video contains every major movie and TV production while also touching on the major comic publications.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder OK sorry I forget how much time and effort goes into this type of stuff which explains why everybody in Hollywood is striking for more money
I hope there are no spoilers for the movie just trailers
No spoilers for anything here
Can you do evolutions of My Little Pony and Transformers?
Yeah that was Amazing !!
Love it!
I love the 87 Turtles most of all
Now look, I have the upmost respect for Peter Laird, just like Kevin Eastman, but I feel he was being a little unfair when it came to Venus Demilo.
Nice
Cool
Amazing
Will there be an updated version
I literally just uploaded this an hour ago. It is completely, totally up to date. The last thing I'm thinking of is an "updated" version.
