It's a lovely quote but I suspect the stoics likely used the proper word "than" instead of "then". This confusing of "than" and "then" is rampant on the internet. Most offenders will claim a "typo" rather than admit ignorance if the mistake is brought to their attention. A strange reaction when someone is merely attempting to educate by pointing to an error. Hopefully, you will be one of the folks who accept the advice provided and not view it as belittling. We all have things to learn, and sometimes strangers are genuinely trying to help others. No offense is ever intended. Please observe I said nothing about "its".

I can attest that stoicism is a journey and not a destination. I discovered this philosophy while watching the movie Act of Vengeance, starring Antonio Banderas. Once I saw the film, I borrowed the book Meditations from my library and started to read it every day. In the beginning it wasn't making sense to me. But the more I got into it, the more it became clearer. Stoicism helped me through many of life's setbacks, especially during the 2020 lockdown. Its been almost 6 years since I've been studying this philosophy and it has kept me clear, along with having a sharper mind to face life's events. Good and bad.
    Be blessed
    Rick

Thank you for sharing your experience with stoicism, Rick! It's wonderful to hear how this philosophy has helped you navigate through life's challenges, especially during the 2020 lockdown. It's true that stoicism is a continuous journey of personal growth and self-improvement. I'm glad to hear that it has kept you clear and given you a sharper mind to face life's events, both good and bad. Stay blessed and keep exploring the wisdom of stoicism!

Like to hear a lecture on Speech and Conversation. The control of it. What is worthy of saying, what is not. Obsessive complaining , criticism, rudeness. Seems to be plenty of it and half of it is probably done without realizing it. This is what I feel people can be more self aware of.

This is an odd topic of focus considering the principles of stoicism and the wide array of problems. I would like to see how stoicism can work with mental illness if possible.
I personally have ADHD and bi polar, which I am medicated for. However I still struggle at times with maintaining focus and maintaining my thoughts on myself and interactions with others. This may be an issue that I may have to work on through personal reflection, but I do wonder about any help the community can offer and if this is a good topic for a video.

One key point many people overlook because it goes counter to consumerism is moderation towards food. Tolstoy, which is as close a stoic as a Christian can be, said that fasting was necessary to lead a good life.

If I had a better (more composed) response I may have been able to subdue him
    - but instead he got away with it (so far).
I definitely DO understand how much worse it could have been, and am grateful that it wasn't..., but how would a Stoic face, and then reflect on, somebody causing them such stress (let alone violence)?
