One of my favorite stoic quotes is "We suffer more in imagination then in reality". I reflect on it daily and its changed my perspective on things profoundly
It's a lovely quote but I suspect the stoics likely used the proper word "than" instead of "then". This confusing of "than" and "then" is rampant on the internet. Most offenders will claim a "typo" rather than admit ignorance if the mistake is brought to their attention. A strange reaction when someone is merely attempting to educate by pointing to an error. Hopefully, you will be one of the folks who accept the advice provided and not view it as belittling. We all have things to learn, and sometimes strangers are genuinely trying to help others. No offense is ever intended. Please observe I said nothing about "its".
After struggling for many years with anxiety and some important defeats, I can say today loudly and proudly...I am a stoic !!!!! And I hope you can be too one day.
I can attest that stoicism is a journey and not a destination. I discovered this philosophy while watching the movie Act of Vengeance, starring Antonio Banderas. Once I saw the film, I borrowed the book Meditations from my library and started to read it every day. In the beginning it wasn't making sense to me. But the more I got into it, the more it became clearer. Stoicism helped me through many of life's setbacks, especially during the 2020 lockdown. Its been almost 6 years since I've been studying this philosophy and it has kept me clear, along with having a sharper mind to face life's events. Good and bad. Be blessed Rick
Thank you for sharing your experience with stoicism, Rick! It's wonderful to hear how this philosophy has helped you navigate through life's challenges, especially during the 2020 lockdown. It's true that stoicism is a continuous journey of personal growth and self-improvement. I'm glad to hear that it has kept you clear and given you a sharper mind to face life's events, both good and bad. Stay blessed and keep exploring the wisdom of stoicism!

The greatest gift stoicism has bestowed upon me has been self-reflection, self awareness and self-reliance. Thank you, for this channel. Seneca has become my new literary companion.
I am separated with 5 year old twin girls and going through a divorce. Needless to say it’s been a difficult emotional process. Practicing stoicism is ideal especially when dealing with him, but I struggle with it. Will continue to listen to these videos, meditate on it, journal and practice until I can reach emotional equanimity. My new favorite word is equanimity!
My ARMI...Awareness, Reflection, Meditation, Innovation....hence one's viewpoint becomes universal when seeing all religions and politics in "deadly actions". To be "smart" is typically our personal viewpoint...to be "wise" is how others will see you once one adopts the Stoics' advice.
Like to hear a lecture on Speech and Conversation. The control of it. What is worthy of saying, what is not. Obsessive complaining , criticism, rudeness. Seems to be plenty of it and half of it is probably done without realizing it. This is what I feel people can be more self aware of.
I love your channel. Following it has brought me a lot of peace and happiness. I like to listen to your channel 2 to 3 times and every time it makes me aware of new things The philosophy behind is amazing Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Injustice is one of my enemies. Injustice to one is injustice to all. The injustice I've been through propelled me to speak up against greed, arrogance, manipulation and subliminal wickedness.
Excellent, yesterday my wife and I were confronted by a bullie on a walking trail. I managed to do ok, I didn't let him get away with it. But I could have controlled my emotions better. Well, I am work in progress. 😅 Thanks again.
Amazing video as always. Personaly I would like to learn more about how the Stoics journaled and reviewed their day. As I am trying by wrighting firstly the lesson of the day and then listing my virtues and vices as well as how to improve uppon them.
This is an odd topic of focus considering the principles of stoicism and the wide array of problems. I would like to see how stoicism can work with mental illness if possible. I personally have ADHD and bi polar, which I am medicated for. However I still struggle at times with maintaining focus and maintaining my thoughts on myself and interactions with others. This may be an issue that I may have to work on through personal reflection, but I do wonder about any help the community can offer and if this is a good topic for a video.
One key point many people overlook because it goes counter to consumerism is moderation towards food. Tolstoy, which is as close a stoic as a Christian can be, said that fasting was necessary to lead a good life.
Please share your knowledge and wisdom on how to spread stoicism in society who doubtlessly loves its country and history but is on a verge of division through political affiliations.
Learning and accepting that the different personalities of people and their different characters cause them to behave and think different than you and you cannot change their beliefs. Therefore, staying open minded to this truth empower you to not take things personal, because they’re just being who they are.
Stoicism teaches us the power of focusing on what we can control, freeing us from anxiety and frustration. A peaceful mind starts with self-discipline.
It is better to suffer injustice than to commit it. In fact, if you have not become a worse person from what has been done to you, you haven't been harmed at all.
I understand how you feel. It can be overwhelming to witness all the negativity and ugliness in the world. However, it's important to remember that there is also beauty and goodness around us.

And yesterday I was the victim of an attempted carjacking... - it was VERY scary to say the least - but I managed to get away with having to replace the window the felons' crowbar shattered, but not my car or (let alone) my life. If I had a better (more composed) response I may have been able to subdue him - but instead he got away with it (so far). I definitely DO understand how much worse it could have been, and am grateful that it wasn't..., but how would a Stoic face, and then reflect on, somebody causing them such stress (let alone violence)?
I think right stoic not "Let go of what we can't" but "Let go of what we can't yet". It's defferent cause stoic just a tool not simple justification of our lose.
Topic: I find that people love gossip and want to know others' opinions on "hot topics".. how do I escape this? I don't care to be involved in Celebrity or friend gossip. But find myself getting sucked into conversations because they happen every day.
As I read the New Testament. Specifically the writings of Paul. It appears to me that Paul uses Stoic foundations as a springboard to communicate new transendant ideas to Greek converts.

That's right. Our human minds have a natural talent, which is to turn things from ants into elephants.
He who conquers others is strong; He who conquers himself is mighty
