True Confidence is Internal: Stoic confidence is not about external validation or appearances but about deriving self-worth from within, rooted in an understanding of one's principles and harmony with nature.

Question about the premeditatio malorum aspect of the video: At what point would visualization of the potential bad outcomes of events be considered negative thinking? I’ve used this method of thinking for most of my life and I was told it is negative thinking. I just use it so that I’m not unpleasantly surprised by a bad case or worst case scenario. I’ve always been told that positive visualization is crucial to keep anxious thoughts at bay. Is there a middle ground that I am missing?
0:58. if everything is predetermined, then we don't need confidence. We don't need anything. We just sit and wait for that predetermined to happen (??). We are nobody.
Not the philosophical meaning of what it’s saying. It’s a hubris way of saying what shall be, shall be. However, YOU always have a choice. A choice to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday, a choice to hold the door open for the elderly person or just anyone in general and put someone else before your own selfish ambitions. This is the philosophical mindset of stoicism. Duty to fellow brethren and obviously for us men, the protection of women/children and those with disabilities or special needs. You can choose to change your fate tonight even, change your occupation, open your mind up to previously uncharted territory. I would also urge someone on a deep inner personal journey to watch “Becoming Nobody/No one”. It shows the interconnectedness of us all in the universe without harsh judgment or negativity. It’s not weak to not be negative, actually it’s the exact reverse.
If you find that you falter in your ideal, and this bothers you into thinking you're not good enough for it, don't lament that you failed to overcome some challege, overcome the challenge of feeling negative about having faltered.
Interesting that fate is mentioned here. Would you say that 'fate' as explained here is the opposite or the same as 'karma' (the root of which means 'doing')?

There may have been some practitioners back in the very old days, but in ancient Greek and Roman culture, there were very few (if any!) female philosophers of any stripe. Their position in society was too different. That said, now there are more and more women attracted to the tenets of stoicism, learning, debating, and spreading word about it. I've done a couple of "women and stoicism" google searches, and enjoyed reading some of the articles and papers that came up. As for the muscles, not even the young men looked like that. Only the gods of Greece and Rome!
@@ShizuokaJoe Thank you for your informative reply. I started to feel there was too much of a testosterone reek about and I was sure there must’ve been some women interested, but back then, I understand, it wasn’t the ball park for female philosophers to play in. I’ll google “women and stoicism” 👍
