I am a 73 year old woman who was hospitalized for severe depression in 2021. After discharged, I attended a seminar on mindfulness that helped improved my depressive condition. As I listened to your discussion on the 10 principles, I realized that depression can be overcome by not allowing ANYTHING to affect me . I can testify to the validity of this truth because it has been gradually helping me achieve inner peace and stability. Thank you for sharing the principles of Stoicism.
Absolutely! And as you know with ANY growth in life, it’s not linear. We will have our ups and downs, but overall the progression will be up if we stay on the path.
I am happy you are better now. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just wanted to add that there are different kinds or origin or depression: exogenous and endogenous. The first is the one induced by the environment and how the person process it, while the second has a chemical endogenous origin due to a neurotransmitters imbalance. For the second kind, people just can't overcome it by just thinking different, they need the help of a professional and medication.
TRUST ME, there’s a limit to ANYTHING. I’ve been stalked, followed, tracked, conspired against, eavesdropped, messed with, email account hacked by the same person and it’s been going on for 20+ years, do you really believe it won’t affect even the strongest person ever existed??? I really don’t think so. I’m sooooooo tired of all these BSs that I’m moving abroad, just for that reason.
No, sir. Actually you are strong. You have to believe in you. Don't hear others' comment. They will not change you at all. Self confident is the matter. God has created so spacious world for us. Try and try , so no circumstances can affect you.
Thank you for sharing your powerful story. Your journey is an inspiration to us all. It's amazing how Stoicism and mindfulness can work hand in hand to bring healing and inner peace. I’m so glad the principles are helping you! Wishing you continued strength and peace.
These videos are a powerful reminder of Stoic principles. Each morning, I start my day with a gratitude practice, listing at least three things I’m thankful for. I also meditate (I took a TM course years ago), which helps me find clarity and calm. Most importantly, I focus on accepting what I can’t control-whether it’s other people’s actions or external events-and remind myself that I have control only over my own responses. Thank you for these videos.
The emphasis on having a 'firm purpose' really resonated with me. Life often feels overwhelming, like sailing in stormy seas, but anchoring ourselves to a clear purpose helps navigate even the most uncertain waters. It’s inspiring to think of purpose not as a destination but as a guiding light that helps us stay the course. This reminder is motivating me to reflect more deeply on what truly matters to me, so that I can face challenges with a stronger sense of direction. Thank you for this transformative wisdom!
I'm 73 years old and once again I'm convinced I have a guardian angel. How timely the information I need arrives at exactly the right moment. I am infinitely grateful to the author of this information.
These videos are important to reaffirm the principles of stoicism. Every morning I write gratitude: then list at least 3 items that make me feel grateful. I meditate (took a TM course many years ago). Most importantly for me is to accept that I can’t control others on external events only my reaction to them. Thank you for these videos.
I used to think these Stoic principles were just nice ideas without much real-world application. But then I decided to test them out in my own life. Every time I fully embraced one of these lessons and made it a part of me, my life improved dramatically. I was amazed by the results. It didn't just affect me; it impacted all my relationships. Some people naturally drifted away, while others grew stronger and deeper alongside me. This experience has truly shown me the power and truth behind Stoic philosophy.
ALL of the pain you claim others cause you comes from you NOT them, EVER Realize that and you'll never be hurt again or if you allow yourself to go there for a time, you will snap out of it really quick We've all been indoctrinated to believe in and embrace victimhood Time to take ownership of our own pain and understand the remedy is stopping the blame game.
That’s such an important truth. Giving someone a second chance to hurt you can often be a form of self-neglect. Knowing when to walk away and protect your own well-being is a powerful act of self-respect. You deserve people in your life who lift you up, not bring you down
Stoicism teaches us how to control our emotions and reactions to live a more fulfilling life. This article introduces 10 unchanging principles of Stoicism, which help us face the ups and downs of life. One of the most important principles is to define a clear, solid goal, which acts as a compass to guide us through a turbulent life. In addition, controlling emotions, focusing on the present, and practicing patience are also important factors to achieve inner peace.
Embracing stoicism has helped me immensely. In addition, it has made me take deeper interest in human psychology and behaviors. The hardest part has been understanding myself. What I have come to realize is that: - Blame can be assigned and shared. Most disappointments come from people around us: These include - Parents, relatives, siblings, bosses, co workers etc. people you think you can count on. - But responsibility for improving my life is entirely on me. - I have to face the truth, see things as they are (not how I think they should have been or be). - I am standing in my own way with excuses. - it is me who has to find the will to do the necessary hard work. - Only in doing is liberation! - This is not easy. But it is required. There is no magical wand. There is no escaping it. - Why stay a victim?! Screw it, I say. - I am finally living life! Stoicism - Much gratitude to all the thinkers and philosophers who have given us their wisdom.

People only hurt you if you allow it. Learning this has open a new way of thinking for me.
Never thought about how much power lies in just pausing before reacting. Definitely going to try this.
