Slayer and Megadeth are a prime example of how different and versatile thrash can be. As king said, their writing and riffing methods were and still are totally different, so it was a matter of time before kerry had to choose between deth or slayer

True. And all the different bands and everything in between that all have their own different sounds and vibe, as well (Testament, Exodus, Kreator... the list goes on and on). I actually feel pity for the people who dismiss it and say that 'it all sounds the same'. We can obviously hear all little flourishes and nuances and stuff that those people aren't capable of hearing.

Kerry may be right about Dave being crazy, but at least he has more respect for his bandmates than Kerry does.
Even after the lawsuit, he patched things up with Ellefson, and they made more music together. As far as that last situation goes, who knows?
Kerry and Tom have consistently treated Lombardo like shit for 15 years, which is why he left for a 2nd time, and never looked back.
After Jeff died, they should have just ended it right there. Hanneman wrote probably 90% of the songs Slayer are known for, and as much as I like Gary Holt, that isn't where he belongs, and Bostaph could find better people to hang with.
Slayer without Jeff, and Dave, just isn't Slayer. No matter how badly Kerry wants to keep milking that cow.

As far as band dynamics, Dave is a perfectionist(at least when he's sober, which he has been for a good while now). Perfectionists are not easy people to deal with, the guys should know that from the outset. Ask anyone who has had to deal with Blackie Lawless, he's the same way.
There are quite a few people Dave has asked to join, that said no, and he is still on good terms with. Jeff Walker from Annihilator is one of them.

@@Aeis_Kalt Sure...But Menza, Marty and Broderick for example didn't exactly get good treatment. He was trash talking Menza for years and then when Menza passed in 2016, Dave went out onstage crying crocodile tears. That story about Dave replacing Marty's solo on one of the songs on Risk really hurt me - Dave said that he hadn't told Marty that he had replaced his solo on the song, and when they sat down to listen to the finished record, Marty had tears streaming down his face when he heard that his solo had been replaced and no one told him. For years Dave regarded Broderick as his best guitarist since Marty, and then the minute Chris had had enough of Dave's controlling tendencies, Dave started childishly trash talking him on twitter, calling him a "robot", "he plays with 0 feeling", etc - all that shit just seems so bitter, and I had thought that Dave had grown up but then I saw those tweets from just a few years ago and I was very disappointed.
There's a reason why Megadeth changes lineups every album - Dave is very hard to work with. He got lucky with Kiko though, they seem to get along very well. I think Kiko is the first band member since Marty that Dave truly actually cares about - I don't think Dave would go on if Kiko leaves. But the rest - they're all just hired hands and I know that even Dirk is probably walking on eggshells around Dave (there was a clip in which I guess Dirk made a mistake and Dave practically walked in front of him and stared him down for several minutes).

Mustaine basically created thrash just by his own style of writing and playing.... Metallica never would have been anything remotely close to what they were on those first 3 albums without him.... and whether he admits it or not.. Kerry spent 5 months with Mustaine and went back to Slayer a far better guitarist and writer just from the experience. As for thrash... Slayer was the only band that stayed consistent to the genre....because why not.... they were the Kings of it. Metallica never played thrash again after the first 3 albums. And Mustaine has drifted into lots of styles because that's just who he is... even with his more melodic experimentations.... he still writes good songs and still has 2 or 3 burners on every album. And I would challenge any musician in any of the big 4, or exodus, testament, death angel, overkill, etc to try and play and sing "This Day We Fight" at the speed Mustaine does it .... because they couldn't.... the only person who might be able to pull it off would be Mille Petroza from Kreator.... and even then.... he wouldn't sound right.... that song, Black Friday, Take No Prisoners.... those are the songs that put Mustaine on the top of the mountain.... and no one will ever knock him off.

King idolized Mustaine and jumped in an opportunity to be in Megadeth, leaving Slayer in a lurch. Apparently Hanneman was really pissed at him… Ellefson talked about when they did an in store at the record vault which used to be on Polk Street in San Francisco back in the day. They sold demos of local bands (I bought a number of them myself back then… Blind Illusion, early Death Angel, Legacy (before they were called testament), etc. apparently a bunch of kids ran up to King and were super excited because they knew him from Slayer and he realized that he could be a big fish in a little pond instead of the other guy in Megadeth. I’ve always believed he tells the story this way to make it seem like he didn’t try and screw over his band mates… He did! Lol! Funny enough, he learned how to play a flat fifth, the “devils harmony” Which became a big part of Slayer sound from Mustaine. Kind of hilarious because anybody who learns the basic major/minor/augmented/diminished pattern of cords could’ve figured that out… Apparently King couldn’t! LMAO!

I got into metal around 91. So, I missed out on the band nemesis stuff in all the magazines early on.
To me, the late 80s/early 90s were the Renaissance of metal. South of Heaven into Seasons, Rust in Peace into Countdown, And Justice For All.
Then, a lot of other bands started really getting some airplay. Headbangers Ball was the hottest show on tv. I remember watching Kurt Cobain show up in an evening gown, because it called "Ball".
Watched as Rob Zombie painted the entire set as the show was going on.
And by the late 90s...It was over. Decent original bands at that point were doing the rap/metal C.R.A.P. shit. Great while it lasted.
No matter what era you preferred by the early 90s, you could just listen to the older stuff. But, New great stuff was STILL coming out!!! :O

Megadeth is musically superior, but Slayer's Araya had the better voice. How that worked out in sales of the big four was:
Metallica sold the most, (and coincidentally sold out the most)
Slayer gets second rank at half of Metallica's sales, and Megadeth and Anthrax are pretty much tied at the bottom. (Anthrax slightly under Megadeth.)
