I have two of these (the identical version bought several years ago from Flyzone), one on floats and one on wheels or skis. They are both great models and fly well. Comments: 1. You need to tuck the battery wires into the cockpit space or the hatch won't close. The latch can wear out if you force it. 2. The wheel struts are soft and prone to bending, so check them after a rough landing 3. The water rudder linkages are tricky and tend to deflect the whole pontoon instead of moving the rudders. I left the rudders off. 4. Further to 3, I have been advised that the rudders are oversized and should be cut down.
I'm thinking that the rubber bands are letting the rudders to move. I would think that a solid linkage would work right. Test it out. Happy turkey day. Beautiful trees.
I've been flying the earlier release of this Beaver for years. It's really a great flying plane and very fun off water. But....the water rudders as furnished are horrible. I added extra rubber bands on either side of the rudder horn to make them stiffer and allow them to stay centered. Doing that really helped improve water taxi. You can do touch and goes just make sure you stay into the wind and don't get wild on that rudder. If you get too slow on the water you'll lose directional control and it's easier to flip over. Just touch, skim a bit then smoothly add power and climb. A 2200 3s battery gives a solid 6 mins flying off water. as a side note you probably found some extra fishing line and wonder where that goes....the instructions aren't clear but the line goes from the floats to the wing strut mount and adds extra bracing. Took me a while to figure that out but it works to add some extra bracing for the floats. Let me know and I can send you pics of you want.
Glad someone brought the beaver back. Looks just like the older flyzone beaver. Still fly mine off the water. Had it about 8 years and still flying strong! Love to watch your videos, keep up the great work brother!
Congratullations! You are the first person I have seen that has managed to group-loop their plane on the water! LOL! Rather than delete the rudders, I would replace the fishingline with solid control rods. Otherwise, it looks like a nice value plane.
When I had boats I always had a recovery boat with a drag line attached so I could pull it in. Just use a kitchen wisk and cut than bend the metal wisk backwards to create hooks. Try it…. It works really good
I’m a goober.. I’ve got a couple great recovery boats but just grabbed this “running out the door” without really thinking about the functionality and effectiveness of it. Lesson learned the hard way! I’m definitely going to look into getting a tug like you mentioned! 👍😎💯⚓️
Float planes raise rudders prior to take off for this reason. They are then lowered for taxiing after landing. One thing you can do is delete one rudder. On take off raise float that doesn't have rudder in the water.
WHAT, no self- righting?! Lol!! I've been waiting for the video!! Was not expecting the RC boat rescue attempt, but isn't it AWESOME when people are just NICE!! Thanks Saylors for the informative and FUN video!! 💟👍😘
Wow! What a heroic review. Yep, that bird was quickly going downwind. So glad you had a friendly boater save the day. You nailed the cause of the crash. A pontoon servo is needed.
The 3.5 Tires look like a pretty viable (wintertime) Option. (Very scale look to them, as well.) Thank you two for Putting This Up - very informative. (Hobbico have some Floats, that can be slipped on that Scout you convinced me I "hadda have for the 'Merry, Merry month of May'.")
This video has given me the the confidence to fly my timber with floats, I've always been worried about about flipping over in the water but now if I mess up I can just say I'm pulling a Nate! God bless you guys! You rock!!!
i have the PA-18 and it was turning fine until it decided to nose dive into the ocean , it smelt burnt and was nose in right side up , can i save the reflex, receiver, motor if dead with WD40 contact spray?

On the details for the plane it says "(1) Float set with Water Rudders and Servos", rather misleading I think. It should say "With string and eleastic bands"
Its much easier to do a recovery if you attach some line to your boat and a bobber go around the aircraft until it gets attached a bit then tow it to shore.

Love this plane and have been flying it for 10 years. It's still the same as when it was sold under Flyzone and would have been nice if modernized it a bit. Nevertheless, it's still a great flying and fun plane. Perfect power for scale flying and light aerobatics.
Really nice airplane. Looks like a lot of fun to fly. It seems really sensitive in the water though. Maybe try adjusting the float rudder servo speed a bit, maybe that will help. Good Luck!
You had me Completely Fooled, when you spoke of that vessel you intended to use for "Just In Case." (The image in my head was something inflatable, 6 to 7 feet long. {And, now that I Think of it, possibly a Lug Sail Rig, for an R/C 'Sailor.'})
"Brand New" hahaha. It's a (thankfully) re-released version of the old Flyzone Island Wings Beaver! If you guys don't plan on flying that one more I'll gladly hang it from my ceiling!

Taking a fishing pole with you while crashing into the water would not be a bad idea. Good video peeps.
Definitely need to bring a better recovery boat, 😁 Lucky those nice folks came to the rescue.

When you said I brought a recovery boat and I saw that little RC boat going out I laughed so hard !!
Two crashed beavers? :D One exploded, one got wet... Maybe it's a sign.... that you're too hard on the beaver... :D lol

That's exactly what it is. Just a Flyzone Beaver with modern electronics. Not a bad thing as this is a great model.
Great job, Happy Thanksgiving!

Thats fun to watch a surface prop boat be a tug. Good times.
Not what I imagined when you said you had a recovery boat! The phrase 'we're going to need a bigger boat' came to mind.
Yeah. I thought at least a kayak.
When I had boats I always had a recovery boat with a drag line attached so I could pull it in. Just use a kitchen wisk and cut than bend the metal wisk backwards to create hooks. Try it…. It works really good
That was a pretty intense rescue ngl
Beautiful scenery!!
…but i think you need a bigger boat!
Kinda looks like the pontoons aren't true to each other. That could cause the erratic tracking😊
Thats what I was thinking too. It looks like it points in on the front.
The linkage was a bit “dated” I suppose. Did my absolute best to assemble this airplane to be as rigid as possible with what I was given.
Really great fall colors
When you said you brought the boat i was think a fishing boat to get yourself put there to pick it up 😆
Use some fishing line to tie a hook and float on there. Then you can just drive by the plane, snag it and tow it back to shore.
You need a remote control Tug boat!😁
Happy gobble day 🦃
A floating fishing lure pulled behind a boat works pretty well for recovery.
This was all too real. Perfect timing. Glad all turned out well.
Sweet hat Nate!! Looks warm.
I hope we see you back with this plane... and on floats. Maybe after some mods to the rudders?
I have a few other float planes that I’d rather fly than this one tbh. It performs well without the floats though! 👍💯😎⚓️
Crash at 9:20. Actually, more like a cartwheel than a crash. 👍
Nate, time to buy a tugboat, or build a "springer tug". It's the almost) perfect recovery boat for both planes and boats.

A zipkit springer tug is what we use for water recovery. They’re cheap, easy to build and have flat bumpers on the front. Happy flying!

Hey Nate and Abby! Keep doing what you're doing! Love your real, honest videos. Always entertaining and a wealth of knowledge!

What a nice adventure to the boat dock by a lake and big model .

Thanks for keeping it real!
Taking off or landing with the flaps down will make it less squirrelly on the water. A real beaver can’t even take off without flaps.
Real recovery boat😊
Great plane. I mostly hear about these planes from you guys. So far, i got the eachine mustang, and waiting for the E-flite mustang.
I wouldnt say it is a "New" plane........I'd say is is a reissue of one that was made about 10 years ago. Good honest report.

I wonder if the fishing line was being dragged the water was also having an affect on the rudders?
Float rudders fo taxing? Retract for flight??
We’re going to need a bigger boat
🤣💯
Next time try a tennis ball on a fishing line and cast it over the plane and then reel it in.
All you need for recovery is a fishing pole with a tennis ball on the line... you're welcome!
For your viewers in the US, how does this fit under the FAA rules. Is it limited to only FRIA's?
We recommend that everyone look into their own flying sites and personal applications. If you are unsure, call the AMA and ask! 💯⚓️
