I come from a Computational Fluid Dynamics background and have only recently discovered Blender. Given the days/weeks/months it used to take me to set up complex simulations, Blender literally blows my mind. I know it's an approximation to real Navier-Stokes simulation, but still, it's incredible. Fantastic tutorial. Learnt so much. Thank you.

hi, this mac has a i5-2410M wich is really bad (2 cores and 4 thread).you will take a lot of time just for 1 image in cycles with 86 samples in 1080p. i have a i3 9100f. so 4 cores and 4 threads and it takes something like 8-9 min for a glass at 128 samples so you can but your cpu will get really hot quickly. so you must use a graphic card but you don't have any in it.
and you will not be able to add a lot of faces, i start lagging at 60k faces wich is not that much.
i hope this mac has a good fan or you will be ables to cook eggs.
so you can try to learn a bit of it because blender isn't good for some things (precision enginering) because you can't really control scale of your faces, you can with you objects but for faces it is a rescale factor (i hate this) so it will be really tricky. of course if you just want to do funny things it is really easy! you just have to watch tutorials, a lot of tutorials. im trying for 3 month and i can't even do a wood texture with irregularities. but it is free so try it!! (just look at your CPU temp, if you don't have something to see the temp, you can download HWMonitor, it is free and you can see the temp, utilization, clocks cores, everything!)
hope it will work and good night from france (0:40 am)

To anyone who's water is flowing backwards, set each circle's Inflow Velocity Y to -10 m/s

For some reason, the cube.001 is showing up as the literal cube during my animation. When I click play, The water flows for about 2 seconds then it just turns into the large cube we put around the animation. Pls help.

    • @TheKBrosTech

It means the animation didn't bake all the way (there is a progress bar at the bottom), or your frame settings are messed up. The large cube (the domain) actually becomes the water mesh when you 'bake' the simulation, but this is a slow process that happens one frame at a time. In other words, if the water flows for a bit and then stops, then you should try rebaking the simulation, or changing the frame start/stop options, etc.

    This is fantastic thank you.
Quick question. And I have searched but can find the answer. Is it possible to either just have liquid sloshing around in a container.
Or to have the "pour and fill" animation, but continuous, where the liquid drains (or just says at one level and never fills) so (again) its a continuous action.
I am thinking about the "fuel" in this case in a clear container being pumped in, but never filling the container? Any help or links on how to do either of these options really appreciated.

i think if u set animation time to longer it will filt to the top of the container try to set it to 30 instad of 8 but u will wait long long time to bake and render

Also you can add an object like a small cube or sphere in your water simulation where you want the water to drain from and set it to "Outflow" instead.

For some reason with Eevee when i bake & render fluid, there is a weird blue haze volume artifact that is filling the Fluid domain. Don't know what's going on. anybody know? You can find the animation on my instagram. same name as my YT channel KILLINSMALLZ

You really shouldn't make any simulations (fluid, cloth, particles, etc) with object that are scaled outside of edit mode. Always apply the scale (Ctrl-A) before setting up any simulations, or scale them in edit mode in the first place. And choose your framerate before baking. Those are two bad habits, that can really make you a lot of trouble.

Great tutorial! Is there a way to adjust the water to make it less thick and more wet looking, though? When I tried it, it works fine, but it looks more like gel than water...

Increasing the resolution of the simulation increases realism.

If you still need help/for other people with this question, the part of the video at ~15:10 where he's deciding Output settings, he mentions that you should switch it to video and select the folder for the output.
Once you actually render the thing, check the folder you picked on this screen and you'll notice a new video file in what ever format you chose (MP4, WMV, etc), or lots of files if you decided to export it as PNG images.
