“And I hope she doesn’t turn out to be the good guy in 4 years after killing the girl I saved’s friends, leaving her all alone and probably with immense depression.”
Everything in this game is a masterpiece, especially the music. The way the ronroco starts to play at 8:55 and slowly builds up to the outro song is just so perfect. The soundtrack inspired me to learn guitar and I also bought an authentic Bolivian ronroco (like a small guitar but with a very unique sound and string setup) because I fell in love with that instrument. So beautiful.
Is there any audio of those 5 chords just before the outro song? They're so magically played I don't even know how to describe it. The agitative swells during the chords build up the tension so well. Honestly one of the most haunting things I've ever heard and I just want to listen to them on repeat. Thank you for talking about the instrument, I actually didn't know it before.
@@nickh3935 Joel did huge mistake, saved Ellie instead of the whole world. Ellie wanted her immunity to mean something. So he DESERVES to die, but not by Abby. It would be better death if the wolf attacked Jackson and one of the zombies bits Joel during the war, so Joel could say his last words to Ellie. Then Ellie goes to revenge. I would hope Ellie kills Abby in the End if there's no Part3, but I'm sure Abby will play an important role in next part.
Marlene was how you do a sympathetic antagonist right. Her love for Ellie was genuine, but so was her desire to try and find a cure, regardless of how heartless the decision itself actually was. The confrontation with Joel isn't steeped in hate, it's just desperation. Plus the game doesn't force you to play as her after she kills a beloved character, lol.

I'm here after learning about the leaks for The Last of Us 2. At this point, I'm considering this to be the definitive ending of Joel and Ellie's story.
I wanted a last of us 2 that featured Ellie confronting Joel about he 'told' her about the fireflies. The setup at the ending is literally the seed of doubt Ellie had ingrained in her in this perfect moment of a choice between saving the world and a father wanting his daughter to live.
Ellie was ALWAYS able to see through his bs, yet she was happy with him, it should have been left here. Left for us to forever wonder what "ok" meant. And its artistic brilliance should have been in us NEVER finding out the answer to that.
@@darthkahn45 He only lied about them no longer looking for a cure, of course they would keep looking. She wasn't the only immune that existed, listen to the recorders again also they were not really interested in cures the doctors just wanting some prize for their discoveries. Ellie was just another guinea pig, Joel wasn't prepared to lose another person he had grown to love as his own child again, especially not a world like it is now. He also never told her about Marlene being there and prepared to murder her for their "cure". Ellie didn't think that she would die, she even asks him at the university hospital, what does he think they will do to her and he thinks they will just take some blood or something. She replies that they had injections at the orphanage and she didn't like it so much.
I don’t care what the sequel dose or the leaks say. From my perspective this is the definitive ending for the story of Joel, Ellie, and the world of TLOU in general. I could have been happy without knowing what came next for the characters. I don’t see the need to explore what follows. For me the story was told in one game.
DrMonkeyBoyJr I will remember it for what it started out as. Not what it became. Think of it like this. You could see the first two Terminator movies and consider T2 as the definitive ending. The rest of the series is out there but you don’t have to think of it as canon or care what comes next.
Was Joel's decision selfish? Yes, without a doubt. But really consider ALL of the things that are working against the Fireflies' favor. And trust me, there's a lot. EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE SURGERY: 1. The Fireflies could have asked Ellie if she was OK with dying for their cause. Had she said yes, Joel would have been devastated but I'm positive that he would have respected her decision and let her go. They just kidnapped her unconscious body and were going to murder her. Ellie deserved a chance to decide if she wanted to sacrifice herself or not, but the Fireflies robbed her of that decision. 2. They completely disregarded any emotional connection that Joel and Ellie made with each other, and treated Joel like absolute garbage. They have no clue how much Hell the two of them went through to get there. They just treated Ellie like a product and they treated Joel like a delivery boy who delivered their food 20 minutes later than they wanted. 3. Couldn't the Fireflies have waited a little bit longer to explore non-fatal surgery options? Joel and Ellie were only there for a couple hours and they suddenly decided "Yeah. The surgery is going to kill her no matter what." It seems like they were more focused on quick solutions rather than discussing the consequences of the surgery. 4. Throughout the hospital, there are multiple tapes stating that they have tried something like this dozens of times before and they were unsuccessful every single time. What makes them think that their quest to find a cure will be successful this time? THE EXTREME UNLIKELIHOOD THAT THE SURGERY WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL AND THEY WOULD FIND A CURE: 6. It's been 20 years since the zombie outbreak started. If they haven't found a cure by now, it's extremely hard to believe that they will ever find a cure. 7. If the doctors are so incompetent to the point where it's impossible for them to find a cure without killing Ellie, what makes them think that they will actually be able to find a cure? The percentage of people who die by having brain surgery in the real world is exponentially small. These Firefly doctors sound like very inexperienced and amateur doctors to me....I wouldn't be surprised if they just hacked her open on the operating table until they found anything useful. 8. There isn't even a cure for a fungal infection, so what makes them think they will find a cure to the cordyceps? 9. Just because the immuness works in Ellie's body doesn't mean that it will work for everyone else's. EVEN IF THE SURGERY WAS SUCCESSFUL..... 10. How would they be able to mass produce the cure? I don't see any functioning factories anywhere in Salt Lake that would allow them to mass produce the cure across the country. 11. It would take decades for people to travel across the country with the cure. Countless lives would be lost due to selfish human survival reasons, all for something that probably wouldn't even work in the first place. 12. How would they even "cure" people? Stick syringes with the cure into the infected? I understand the runners, but what about the clickers and the bloaters? They seem WAY too far gone to help at this point. Even getting too close to them to try to help them would probably cause more lives to be lost and more infected to be born. 13. The Fireflies very much seem like a ruthless terrorist organization. They would probably use the cure just for their own selfish benefit and would rule the country like a dictatorship. Having the cure in their possession would give them a lot of power, and power (especially during the apocalypse) is very easy to abuse. No one seems to like or respect the Fireflies anyway. 14. Human beings at this point are even more dangerous than the infected. They have proven to be selfish, psychopathic, and deranged and have done horrible things since the outbreak started 20 years earlier. Just look at David's crew, the soldiers who abuse their power (like the one who killed Sarah) and the patrol guards in Pittsburgh. Humanity is not worth saving at this point. It's become too ugly and tainted by years of the apocalypse for everything to go back to normal. The infected just walk around aimlessly. Human beings have become tactically dangerous at this point and you can't trust anyone anymore. No "cure" will be able to fix this. Taking ALL of these elements into account, I think Joel made the right decision at the end of the day. He made a selfish decision, but it was a decision that was justified. You need people that you can love and protect at this point, and throwing that all away for the microscopic chance at saving humanity that doesn't deserved to be saved would be ridiculous. Joel and Ellie deserved to be happy after all that they have gone through.
Absolutely agree with your thirteenth point. The Fireflies were no better than the governments trying to safeguard parts of America and only escalated crime and violence as if it wasn’t bad enough. Chances are, they would’ve relied on the cure to gain control of America and the likelihood is they would’ve became a dictatorship.
This is exactly it! the game doesnt directly stablish any of it, but you just need to think a little about it to see things are way beyond repair and the fireflies screwed themselves completly, if they havent treated Joel and Ellie as they did, and even then the chances of they actually getting a cure are almost zero and would more likely turn evil the moment they see themselves with a resource as valuable as a cure
We agree with you. Joel did the right thing to prevent Ellie's death for a cure that won't fix the world. With everything we seen in the game. People have become way more sadistic, insidious, and selfish. There are only fewer good people in the game, because most of them killed themselves to escape from becoming part of the new world, as Tommy told Joel after saying he survived because of him, Tommy said that he wished he didn't. Even if the Fireflies fight against corruption and oppression, they were evil hypocrites, they have been finding a cure and in the tapes it revealed Joel was telling Ellie half the truth, Their were dozens like her. The reason there aren't more because the Fireflies we're hunting them down and experimenting on them to make a cure. Even Marlene been breaking Ellie's mother promise to look after her, she wasn't there when she was attack and bitten, she rarely speaks to Ellie, Ellie doesn't know her much, and she was willingly have the doctors kill Ellie. There are information of what happens if Joel didn't stop them. Marlene would have taken the cure for herself and run away from everything. There won't be enough more to make. The Fireflies would have use it to control over helping those. Joel did the right thing to kill them and he indirectly save others like Ellie that may be rarely discovered. We don't like the last of us 2 not just because of Joel died pathetically, they made some inaccuracies from the first part. 1. The Fireflies shouldn't be recruiting children into the group. But in part 2 there are kids in the group. 2. The Fireflies are a bunch of ruthless people but there are good people among them even the NPC doctor who tried to kill Ellie in cold blood. 3. Ellie was aware of Joel Lying but choose to accept it because what she truly wanted is not death, or have her immunity to mean something, she only wanted a parent, to ease her fear of being alone. In part 2 she investigate the hospital in Salt Lake City to find out the truth she's already suspected. She then starts to hates Joel and become so selfish. Everytime they are around each other she scolds him for more than a year. 4. Joel and Tommy who are very precise veteran survivors were not prepared to face people they don't know and got Ambushed instead of being cautious and determined. In the Walking Dead show version of Alexandria Rick saw through that the people their were not prepared to survive due to stay in the refuge living like things the way they used to, this makes Rick and his group feels like their were loosing their touch on surviving. they were letting outsiders in, the were to scared to face walkers, they don't do things necessary like dealing with Pete's torture on his family due to him being an important doctor, and lastly letting the gate open with no guard around. What we seen in the opening people were living like the way things used to be, over learning how to survive long. 5. The game lacks narratives, and meaning to the story, in order to make the game about forgiving and moving on. 6. Having Marlene give a second thought when she was too cold to emphasize with anyone. 7. Having our favorite characters nightmares come true. The second part was not the game we wanted. This is why we choose to pretend there's only one part. The first part is a masterpiece and didn't feel like it should have a sequel. If it happens it should have different people in the story. Not ruining the ending with our favorite characters.
You don't understand. It's not about games or fun anymore. It's about the political message this sends. They have a transgender female beat the strong male protagonist to death, effectively killing the last game, because we can't have strong male role models.
LaughingMan1251 Abby isn’t trans, but you’re right about the political message bs. Ellie being lesbian is totally okay but the way they handled her character was shit. Abby was forced in to shoe-horn the “strong female character” hence why she’s so buff like a WWE Star. Only problem is Neil Druckmann forgot that The Last of Us already has a strong female protagonist... her name is Ellie. 🙄
Shadow of Dread Ellie wasn’t a strong female protagonist. She was a constantly damsel in distress. She was shown to be utterly useless without Joel in the first game. What the fuck is this guy going off about strong male role models? Joel was a piece of shit. He was unnecessarily brutal, kills often without reason, forsakes those who are important to him for his own gain, condemns all of humanity to avoid his own loss and goes against Ellie’s own wishes and lies to her just so he doesn’t have to feel like he loses another daughter. But Joel gets a pass for all of this just because he’s a man, but every little bad thing Abby does it the ultimate sin despite there being multiple instances of her doing genuine good for the sake of other people and not herself?
I don't think it's as simple as she knows he's lying. She may have a sense he's lying, but she chooses to believe otherwise, and so she deos. Sometimes in life it be that way.
Ellie: What happened? Joel: We found Naughty Dog. Turns out our future won’t be very good, Ellie. People are gonna come for me, fool me. Ain’t gonna do a damn good for the fans. They’ve actually s- they’ve stopped working on a sequel. I’m sorry, it’s better this way

Perfect ending for a perfect game. All we need is a prequel of Joel's survival during the 20 years; how he got to Boston, how he got involved with the fireflies, Tess, etc.
Man, what a pitch perfect ending to such a solid story. Ends on that perfect note of mixed emotions. It’s like this game had a proper character-driven story arc that was both satisfying and affecting, and presented a legitimate moral conundrum that challenged your personal feelings as a player. It’s a shame they never made a sequel to this, and never will. I mean, this is a great standalone story, so a sequel is certainly not necessary, but I know there’s no way the writers at work here could possibly follow this up with anything too disappointing, let alone something that’s pointlessly cruel, alienating, vapid, self-important, hypocritically judgmental, and ultimately pretentious, having the thematic depth of a puddle of piss that leaked out of an infant, with absolutely no catharsis or payoff, or even a real purpose, or even just a moment of genuine insight or thought provocation to justify it’s devastating and mean-spirited narrative choices. Everything in this game is a masterpiece, especially the music. The way the ronroco starts to play at 8:55 and slowly builds up to the outro song is just so perfect.
Me too pardner. Me too.
Actually Joel never lied, you can a find a record in the hospital telling that there are more people like Ellie, so...
This aged very well. Cause TLOU 2 is absolutely ass
EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE SURGERY:
THE EXTREME UNLIKELIHOOD THAT THE SURGERY WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL AND THEY WOULD FIND A CURE:
Joel and Ellie deserved to be happy after all that they have gone through.
wow, you made a really good point!

Amen to that.
You don't understand. It's not about games or fun anymore. It's about the political message this sends. They have a transgender female beat the strong male protagonist to death, effectively killing the last game, because we can't have strong male role models.
LaughingMan1251
Abby isn’t trans, but you’re right about the political message bs.
What do you mean he never died there was never a sequel
Who’s here after finishing the second part

what part 2?
The beauty of this ending is that she knows he's lying to her. But, that's exactly what she needs. Someone that will NEVER leave her.
I don't think it's as simple as she knows he's lying. She may have a sense he's lying, but she chooses to believe otherwise, and so she deos. Sometimes in life it be that way.

I never knew that this randrom npc that i killed would change lou2 so much. Damn it i should have never kill that doctor.
You have to
I didn't intentionally - I shot him in the foot. Apparently that kills a man though...
Doctor dies because Joel wants to kill him
@@hollanti1237 no not really he dies because he attacks at joe.
@@muratege4056 Doctor doesnt attack he is just holding knife for self defense
This is the true ending. No sequels needed....
Stop being salty fucks. He dies in the sequel but whole game is a masterpiece. Stupid people complaining like retards
Marcin Jaworski the story is trash so no sequel needed

Pandemic in 2020...
Watches awesome clip of game set in a pandemic.
Who's there after watching the last episode ?
Ah well, The Last of Us doesn’t need to be a franchise anyway. Good, one-off, single game.
and then Golf clubs will appear in ur nightmares.

Oh, sorry I disliked your hollow, pretentious wank of a sequel.
I think deep down she knew joel was lying she just didn’t want to believe u can see it on her face. probably one of the best ending in a game🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes! I agree, she did know he was lying, but that's exactly what she needed - someone that would never leave her (as everyone else had).
what a great ending to a standalone game with no sequel.
Why mention it doesn't have a sequel do you want a sequel cause I don't need one either
That’s what we all wished would have happened
Lol u wish
Yeah I really hope there is never a sequel to this game /s
Player1 facts.... Imagine if there were a sequel to 2001, a space odyssey
Other than the Joel and ellie flashbacks, nothing else happened
I agree 🙂
Flashbacks? Oh you mean the epilogue dlc yea that was fun
Feel like there’s a joke here but either I don’t get it or it’s not fucking funny or it’s just stale. I’d say it’s the last 2
I came here to watch this minutes after the episode ended on HBO just to see how close they nailed it. I cannot wait for season 2
what season 2? There's no more material. No sequel was produced.
@@DennisHeikki man it’s been a few years now. Can y’all stop with the bad criticism for 2? It’s not a perfect game but almost every common critique you people like to use against it is terrible
Should have let them live Joel
Hahaaa. Yip
And i'm replaying it for sure to give them doctors the worst death possible. I'll skip TLOU part 2, F Neil Fagman.

The big difference between both endings is the guitar. In the game version starts before the final cut, so the construction of the final "OK" is better.
1:28 this chase scene is just perfection. The way how the music starts representing Joel and his thoughts, his "emptiness" without Joel, the siren and the guard noises in the bg and how the music dominates the whole audio at this scene and Joel "comforting" ellie
I will never acknowledge the last of us part 2 as a legitimate sequel. It flies in the face of the story the original game told in every way. This was truly one of the most beautiful games ever made and I will carry it with me for my entire life.

The subtle touch of his watch when he talks about struggling with surviving and finding something to fight for is such a great little detail
